I was born and raised in Alaska, and this is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to! The church is on a place overlooking a quaint little village settled alongside the inlet. It makes you feel like you just stepped into a 19th-century novel! This is a great place to stop for a picnic, read a book, or peruse the gravestones. Locals might notice some familiar ancestral names. I would recommend going on a warm and sunny day (as we did) if possible, but I'm sure it will be enjoyable in other weather. Two things to note: First, visitors CANNOT enter the church itself. You can still go inside the churchyard, though! Second, there's a whole lot of cow parsnip growing across the road from it, so be careful! It's likely to cause a rash if it comes in contact with your skin. We found this out the hard way.…

Wow! What a beautiful site! If you are traveling between Anchorage and Homer, make this a Must Stop on your route. The Russian Orthodox church is beautiful. There are also two cemeteries next to the church. One is for Veterans and is well maintained. The one in the church yard is more overgrown with wildflowers but you can still see the beautiful crosses at the grave sites. On the other side of the church, you get beautiful views of water, volcanoes, and mountains. The views are breathtaking. And if you are lucky like us, you will also have an eagle soar above while you are there.…

Traveling for 2.5 months in Alaska and Yukon, found this small church as I was looking for a picnic place for lunch. The cemetery is overgrown with weeds and wild flowers, some nearly my size (It is Alaska after all, everything grows bigger here) making it a bit difficult to see everything but it made it look surreal, a bit abandoned, yet fresh - hard to describe the juxtaposition of feelings one get while walking these grounds. Built in 1901, it is very well preserved. The road can get quite muddy – beware of driving there when it is really rainy – I had to find parking around very large potholes full of water. A few Veterans were perusing the cemetery while I was there – quite somberly. Also make sure you visit the small village down the hill form this church. In the parking area were 3 RVs and several cars/trucks. It is not as tight as some reviewers make it out to be.…

Well worth the short drive to the church and cemetery. Nice views down the hill to Ninilchik village. Take a few minutes to walk around the church and cemetery. If you have the time, I'd recommend also walking through Ninilchik village and out past an old fish processing plant. When I was there the church was not open.…

After seeing some great photography of this location inside Rosco's Pizza, we inquired of the location and paid a visit. Catching the golden hour of light was gift, as I think we captured some nice photographic shots at the church and the graveyard.
