About
Get all your rowdy friends together and join in the Alaskan axe-tion in this amazing competition of skill and strength. The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show reflects upon southeast Alaska’s rich logging history and comes to life with thrilling displays of strength and agility. These world champion athletes wearing spiked boots & hard hats compete in 12 athletic events that utilize seven-pound axes, six-foot razor sharp saws, tree climbing gaffs, and souped up chainsaws. Your cheers will turn to roars of excitement as axes fly through the air, men free fall from tall trees, and then run atop spinning logs floating in the water. The show is held in a covered, heated, and cushioned grandstand that includes a rustic lodge gift shop and full concession. This will be one hour of action, excitement, and laughs that is unique to all of Alaska.

- hqflash1 contributionGreat Alaskan Lumberjack ShowThis is a terrific show for all ages. Only a two to three minute walk from the cruise ship, the venue is newly updated and clean. We did not buy our tickets through the cruise line but bought them direct once we knew the date of arrival and saved about 40%. The competition was entertaining and a bit dangerous for the participants as one got injured but not seriously. They also get the crowd involved with a little humor and antics. I would go again and recommend especially for families.Written September 28, 2022
- karenchase75San Antonio, Texas9 contributionsGreat Family FunWe bought tickets directly through the show because our cruise ship tour with ax throwing was sold out. The admittance process was super easy, the snacks were not expensive (they even have Dr. Pepper!), the MC was fabulous and the show fun, entertaining (a little cheesy), and a wonder at the things the lumberjacks could do. Our group (ages 16-54) enjoyed the show!Traveled with familyWritten July 8, 2022
- Lori M57 contributionsFun For EveryoneWe went back and forth about booking this show, and I am so glad we decided to squeeze it in. Book your ticket directly on their website rather than as part of an excursion - it is much less money that way. The guys do a great job of entertaining the crowd and getting everyone excited and cheering. You will laugh at their antics and root for your team to win!Written June 1, 2022

Our family of 5 (including teenager daughter and college-aged sons) enjoyed the show very much. It was entertaining and displayed skills and feats we’ve never witnessed before. We booked independently of the cruise shore excursion and it was easy to find and walk to the venue and get seated. Highly recommend for a unique Alaskan experience to balance out some of the other active excursions we planned. The venue is outside but covered.

This show delighted our whole family from 11 to 45 years of age. The storyline was easy to follow, the jokes were funny, the action thrilling and every seat was a great seat. The backdrop with bald eagles, mountains and trees was stunning as well. They are a very well-oiled machine offering a great show for a reasonable price. It's a must see in Ketchikan.

The athletes put on a great show. While it is scripted like the WWE you can witness these men performing activities that were part of the lumber industry in the past.
The announcer divides the audience into two groups and gets everyone cheering for their team. Winners give an autographed card to someone in the audience after each event. It is an hour of fun suitable for the whole family.
There is a concession stand for snacks before the show. On the way out you can take a picture with the lumberjacks for free and then exit through the gift shop.
There is also an option to upgrade your ticket to throw axes after the show.
There is no difference in price between buying tickets at the attraction or from the cruise ship.

We bought tix for afternoon show. It is very well organized. The two teams who compete against each other appear to be genuine lumberjack types, but the "contest" is clearly rigged. Audience participation (cheering) makes for almost all the
excitement. The skills displayed are certainly impressive but we overall felt it was a
pretty touristy/cheesy experience. Then again, considering that other excursions/activities out of Ketchikan cost 3-6 times more, you have to figure you get what you pay for.
Kids would enjoy. Seating is reasonably comfortable. People were certainly nice, hung around for photo ops afterward.

We have seen this show a number of times over the years and we still enjoy it. We had family along for our cruise on NCL Encore and booked this outside the ship to save money on a group of tickets. The outcome is always the same but our family had no idea and were rooting as Canadian to the bitter end. For me, the announcer was hard to understand. She spoke too fast and high pitched for me. I saw other older folks like myself who laughed along with the crowd with little understanding of what they were laughing about. And as always, they route the exiting crowd out through the gift shop which becomes very congested. And with NCL's debacle of a new berth in Ward Cove, we were pushed to get out and back to the shuttle stop for our 25 minute ride back to the berth.

A really good fun show suitable for all ages. The audience is sat under a roof so protected from rain (there's a lot of this stuff in Alaska!) so you can enjoy watching the fun in relative comfort. We also did the axe throwing, which we thought was well worth the bit extra money and time.

We enjoyed the lumberjack show! It lasted about an hour and they competed showing various skills such as log rolling, axe throwing, cutting skills. They divide the crowd into two teams who boo and cheer during the competition. Excellent way to spend an hour in Ketchikan. The location is very close to the cruise pier, walking distance. And they have a gift shop, snack shop and clean restrooms. Almost all of the seating has a roof overhang with heaters in case it is raining and chilly. We were lucky and had a beautiful day in Ketchikan.

There is a lot of stores to visit in this city, but if you can carve out an hour of your day, go see this entertaining show. Walking distance from the Royal Caribbean port. Although you meet right outside the ship on the pier, they will direct you to walk a short distance to the small stadium they perform in. It’s a small stadium with metal seats /no back to the seats. Front row might get wet depending where you are sitting. Not to wet, and it’s only at the end
Try to get there early to pick the hood seats
They sell coffee and hot chocolate.
A great family show that I will watch again on my next visit. Right after the show, they line up for pictures to the left of the stage
Hope you enjoy

A friend recommended this to my wife for our AK cruise and we decided to book directly with the Great AK Lumberjack Show vs the boat. My wife was so excited about this and I went with her to keep her out of trouble.
The show was fun to watch the interaction with the lumberjacks and the crowd and of course, amongst themselves. We enjoyed the entire show and worth our time in Ketchikan. Definitely fun for the kids, but it is a lumberjack show, so there are saws and loud noises. Please be mindful of that aspect, but worth the hour of fun.

I know it sounds a bit cheesy, but this show is really fun! The lumberjacks are impressive athletes and compete in a series of competitions that include sawing, chopping, ax throwing, climbing and log rolling. The MC does a great job getting the audience involved and keeping everyone entertained. The venue is right in the middle of Ketchikan and you can walk there from the cruise ships. If you are lucky, you can get a photo with one of the lumberjacks!

I purchased the tickets from the cruise ship however you can purchase them directly from their website or box office. Look up Alaskan lumberjack show for current prices and times of the shows when you will be in town.

Hi,
Just went to their website and was able to navigate easily to the payment page without being directed to the cruse line, so I'm not clear what you are referring to in that. I bought our family's tickets direct through them and saved $17 per person versus booking through Norwegian. If you are receiving the $50 shore excursion credit, its about the same. I did note that the cruise ship bookers already had their tickets; we had to make a brief stop at the will call desk that took about 1 minute. The seating is stadium seating (think little league stadium), its hard to imagine there being a bad seat in the house.

I plan to buy tickets ahead of time, just in case they sell out. Do they give refunds if the cruise ship is delayed/skips the port?
nancyhmccoy68
Orange, CA1 contribution
I doubt they give a refund. However, I have not heard of a cruise being so delayed or missing a port that you would need to worry about that. I bought my tickets ahead of time on their website and it was a much better deal than what I would have gotten through the cruise line.

What is the cost of tickets buying directly from the vendor?

You can buy your tickets online. The cruise ship would charge 50$ per person even the 2 year old. An adult was 37$ children 3-12 was 18.50. Under 3 was free. We were 17 in all with a 2 year old, so significant savings for us!

I guess I'm not doing this right. Tickets are worth it, about $40. Google GALS for 800 no. and have them paid for and reserved for Will Call when you show up. It will sell out. Very nice and kids love it too

We paid $35. Our cruise line and the online website tickets were the same, so we purchased through the ship.
