A great company to do business with. Although most of the tours in Ketchikan were not operating the week we visited there because of lack of cruise ship guests, we were able to book long before our trip with Alaska Hummer for the Saltwater Expedition. Alex our guide was amazing. He is a young man born in Ketchikan whose love for the outdoors and area was contagious. Alex not only provided us with a great tour on the water but shared so many fantastic stories of what it was like to grow up in Ketchikan. I sincerely felt like I was enjoying a ride with my grandson! We had a little communication issues with locating our pick up point which was confirmed by a phone call from Alex himself the evening before, but he was extremely patient with this "older' lady calling him several times to get me at the right place. There were 4 of us "senior adults" in the party and Alex could not have made us more comfortable. His boat exceeded our expectations and provided a very comfortable indoor sitting area where we could comfortably view the scenery without being in the elements although it was a non-rainy day. Alex made stops at points of interest or when we came upon a viewing area for eagles and seals and allowed us as much time as desired to take advantage of the outdoor area of the boat to get up close. This company was pleasant and easy to work with from day one and very accommodating of what we wanted in a tour.

5+ Stars! We’ve been home for weeks and we’re still talking about our wonderful day with Shannon! She met us at the dock and immediately made us feel welcomed in her hometown. She shared engaging and informative stories, entertaining adults and kids alike. We saw several amazing sights, making stops to take short walks through the most beautiful forest areas, to see breathtaking Native artifacts, and to nibble on wild huckleberries and salmonberries. The Hummer was smooth and spacious, and Shannon has a sturdy stool for anyone who needs an extra boost up. Overall, a personalized and memorable excursion with a great company and terrific guide. Thanks, Shannon!

This was a private bear watching excursion during our Celebrity Cruise. We booked on our own as this was not an excursion offered by the cruise line. Wonderful one hour boat ride to the bear viewing platform at Traitor Cove. The boat ride would have been great even if we did not see bears. However, we saw bears for the hour plus we spent on the platform. We also had bald eagles all around in the trees just waiting for the bears to leave so they could clean up. Overall, this was a 3.5 hour highlight of our entire cruise

Alaska Hummer Adventures is a locally owned family business with deep roots in the community. The boat we used was first class with a fully enclosed cabin with heat, if needed. The most impressive aspect of the boat was each seat sat on a shock absorbing system that took all of the pounding from the occasional waves. This was a little thing that showed me the care and professionalism of Alaska Hummer.

Alex, one of the family boys, was our guide for the day. He was knowledge and a very enjoyable young man. He had great respect for the water and the area. We wish Alex great success as he moves on to Maritime college.

Overall, I highly recommend this experience for anyone on a cruise or just visiting. You get what you pay for in life and this day was worth the expense!!

We were met off our cruise ship by the lovely Duane. We were a party of 4 and frankly the cost of this private trip was amazing value given the expensive cost of cruise excursions! No shuffling on and off coaches with the masses! We loved the flexibility of this tour. Duane took us on the most beautiful forest walk which led us down to the beach. We saw Salmon just embarking on their trip up stream for their spawning season. This was followed with a trip to see some Totem Poles and a drive to Down Town and Beavers Fall. Duane provided some very helpful insight throughout the tour and stopped whenever there was anything of interest (waterfalls, eagles nests, etc). The only disappointment was that we did not see any bears:( but apparently sightings are regular. We'll just have to visit Ketchikan again (and meet up with Duane)!

A GREAT trip to Misty Fjords with John and Larry. This is a not to be missed locale with striking scenery, wildlife, and waterfalls. Went in a fast boat expertly handled, with commentary and wildlife spotting along the way. Learned natural history and about Southeast Alaska history. You should definitely go to Misty Fjords, and I highly recommend Alaska Hummer Expeditions as the way to get there!

Our guide, Shannon, made this a really great tour. She listened to us and took us to all the places we requested. Her personal Ketchikan experiences made the tour more enjoyable for us. We didn't see much wildlife, but you can't expect wild bears and salmon to perform on command. The hummer ride was comfortable for us mature visitors. We definitely recommend this tour if you want personal attention and a private tour.

We did two back to back adventures: black bear viewing one day, Misty Fjords the next. Alex was a great captain and very knowledgeable. The boat was comfortable and the scenery is spectacular. We saw a mama bear and two cubs after a bit of waiting patiently. There was great communication with Alex and the office. I highly recommend these excursions!

We give this bear expedition the highest rating possible. We so loved our trip!! We saw two bears; one crossing the stream and catching salmon and the other on the side of the stream. It was amazing! A definite bucket list experience. Alex, the skipper, was the best! I cannot say enough good things about this excursion. If you have always wanted to see a bear fishing salmon in a stream this is your best chance.

I booked this tour through Royal Caribbean as excursion ID KE40 for a party of 4 adults. The tour cost $560 for up to 5 people. The price is a little more than other excursions, but I figured it was going to be worth it since we had our own dedicated tour guide. On board the ship, we filled out a preference sheet (which is the same one found on their website) the day before the tour. The guide uses the preference sheet to route the tour - you are always in control though - if you want to skip something or stop part of it short, just tell the guide.

Hunter met us at the pier and was very personable. He had an extra foot stool to help granny get in and out of the hummer. Granny also had a wheelchair which had no problem fitting in the back.

Hunter had a story for everything (as you would expect from a good tour guide). We saw plenty of bald eagles - (binoculars are available to use during the tour). We tried to find some bear, but never did. We saw some water falls, drove through the city, and went to a totem park (I also reviewed). Our guide was able to share many stories behind the totems in the park which helps us understand the meaning.

At the end, we stopped by our guide's favorite local coffee shop and he dropped us off in the shopping district at our request equipping us with directions to get back to our ship.

The tour was 4 hours - we did everything on our preference sheet and were never bored. This was well worth the extra cost for a group of 4 adults who want a personalized tour.

Hey there Jeff M and thank you for your review! Sorry it took so long for us to get back to you but back when you posted this review tripadvisor was kind of a new thing to us and some things fell through the cracks. It sounds like you guys had a blast on your Trip though “bald eagles, totem poles, the waterfall and other local highlights”. It’s a bummer that you guys did not see bears, we try to find them every time but being wild animals they sometimes are pretty reclusive. Anyways, from all of us here at AkHummer thanks!
