I must admit I was a little skeptical about a Hummer tour of Ketchikan. I was able to choose what kinds of activities we were interested in (all outside, active things) so that sounded promising. It was great! Shannon was our guide. She took us to several outside sites- away from downtown! She took us on a few lovely hikes. I really feel like she shared her love of the island.

Booked though Holland America. Shannon met us as we left the ship and did an amazing job. Saw the salmon run with bears eating at the river, hiked through the rain forest, went to the Alaska beach. stopped at Herring Cove, saw waterfalls and Totem State Park. She then dropped us off in Ketchikan in time to do some shopping before our boat left town. Highly recommend this tour.

The excursion was a lot of fun with John, our very knowledgeable and friendly guide. A very nice boat took us across the beautiful waters to a platform where we saw 5 black bears fishing salmon from the stream and eating them. Watching nature so close was such a rush! The salmon trying to swim upstream against a rushing current was fun, too. A must-do excursion in Ketchikan!

We toured with Alaska Hummer Tours on their Expedition Black Bear in mid-August. It was absolutely the HIGHLIGHT of our trip to Alaska!! We were greeted by the awesome owner John and his son (our Captain) AJ. We boarded their enclosed boat which was super comfortable and warm for our 30 minute trip to the island to see the bears. We arrived on the island and hopped in their van to take us to the bear viewing area. After a short walk down a beautiful, rain forest "looking" path- we ended up at the viewing platform. Literally within one minute we saw multiple black bears hunting for the spawning salmon as they swam upstream. The platform was awesome as it let you see really close (and of course AJ had his binoculars too since we forgot ours so it was even more close up) the bears eating the fish they caught. We counted at least 5 different black bears during our time on the platform. AJ and John shared stories about other viewings and the bears and told us some interesting facts about the black bears and their habits. It was truly a one of a kind experience! We love to travel and have been fortunate to do a lot of tours in our lifetime- this was a true highlight for sure! I would highly recommend Expedition Black Bear- 5 stars+!

This was a private bear watching excursion during our Celebrity Cruise. We booked on our own as this was not an excursion offered by the cruise line. Wonderful one hour boat ride to the bear viewing platform at Traitor Cove. The boat ride would have been great even if we did not see bears. However, we saw bears for the hour plus we spent on the platform. We also had bald eagles all around in the trees just waiting for the bears to leave so they could clean up. Overall, this was a 3.5 hour highlight of our entire cruise Alaska Hummer Adventures is a locally owned family business with deep roots in the community. The boat we used was first class with a fully enclosed cabin with heat, if needed. The most impressive aspect of the boat was each seat sat on a shock absorbing system that took all of the pounding from the occasional waves. This was a little thing that showed me the care and professionalism of Alaska Hummer. Alex, one of the family boys, was our guide for the day. He was knowledge and a very enjoyable young man. He had great respect for the water and the area. We wish Alex great success as he moves on to Maritime college. Overall, I highly recommend this experience for anyone on a cruise or just visiting. You get what you pay for in life and this day was worth the expense!!
