About
Founded in September, 1898 as "Strong & Johnstone Co." by Ketchikan pioneers Henry C. Strong and Frederick C. Johnstone, it was renamed Tongass Trading Company in 1900, and incorporated in October, 1901. At the turn of the century, Tongass Trading Company supplied the miners and mining camps throughout Southeast Alaska. In the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, Tongass Trading Company provided supplies, gear and storage to the commercial halibut fishing fleet, as well as household goods, clothes and groceries to local residents. In the mid and latter part of the 20th century, Tongass also supplied the booming logging camps of Southeast Alaska. Through the years, Tongass Trading Company has kept pace with progress and the changing industries of Alaska. Today, Tongass Trading Company supplies commercial and sport fishing gear, hardware, furniture and clothing to industry and residents of Southeast Alaska. Additionally, Tongass Trading Company is a popular stop for cruise ship travelers looking for uniquely Alaskan curios, gifts and souvenirs.

Big shop lots of things to purchase, be sure you look for the local discount book, it will have some great deals. If you can wait to get off the ship to make your purchase for a jacket or sweatshirt this is the place to pick one up, they would be great gifts if you have that much room in your suitcase.

During our shopping marathon in Ketchikan, we went to Tongass Trading Company which was an enormous store.
The store is fully stocked with every type of souvenir one could possibly want. The goods are all of good quality and at excellent prices.
I got:
● a sport cap with ALASKA – THE LAST FRONTIER embroidered for $4.99 – Caps with embroidery are usually $12.99 + up elsewhere
● an Inside Passage coffee cup at $2.99 - Such souvenir cups are usually at least $9.99, if not $15.00 or more, in other tourist areas
● an ALASKA 49TH STATE patch at $4.99
● an ALASKA - THE GREAT LAND decal at $1.99
● an ALASKA collectible pin at $2.99
My friend bought several items, too.
We were very pleased with our purchases here. We highly recommend shopping here and making this your Ketchikan Souvenir Headhunters.

You can't miss Tongass when you get off the dock in Ketchikan....as a matter of fact, even if you miss it, there are a couple more just up the street! This is the place to get your $20 jacket...rain proof, fleece lined, reversible, hood....all you need to withstand glacier weather if you have a fleece shirt or sweatshirt underneath (also available here!) No it's not top quality, but it is a great bang for the buck. Lots of other fun souvenirs and items as well!

Good stores for shopping for souvenirs,some things are pricey so watch the prices,only bad thing about the whole shopping experience in Ketchikan is that almost 99% of the products being sold are made in China,however there are local products on sale if you lok around.

Best prices in Alaska you would think a location right on the dock would jack up the prices we have traveled all over Alaska from Juneau , Haynes Petersburg.... but no one beats these prices I bought a jacket for my Husband he liked it so much he wonted to go back no this is a man why hates shopping he bought jackets and hats for all or children and grandchildren I was shocked he was having fun saving money . We will be In Alaska for a few more months so we will be mailing our things ahead to save on extra luggage fees.

Had bought no souvenirs until last stop in Ketchikan. Ducked in here as was on way to cruise ship. Large store, good selection, reasonable prices by comparison. Some items broke in luggage. Replacing by ordering online. Website could be easier to navigate, especially if you want to change quantity before checkout.

If you take a cruise to Alaska, you will see these stores everywhere. They're a little pricey, but they have pretty much anything you might want to take home. Enjoy.

Thank you for the review. We do try our best to be priced as well as we can, often times beating other stores. We are only located in Ketchikan, but have several stores for people to shop at. Thank you so much for stopping in!
