I had never fished for Halibut before and decided on Rainy Day Charters. The reviews on the internet were very good and I soon found out why. Captain Bill is extremely Knowledgeable. Not to mention you'd be hard pressed to find another captain that would work as hard for you and be as honest. First thing in the morning Captain Bill said we will be burning a lot of gas to get us out to where the Halibuts live. Boy was he right. We had fish on right away. Our arms eventually got tired from reeling in these ocean beasts. Not knowing much about Halibut fishing our captain could of only taken us out part ways, saved a lot of money in fuel for himself, only to provide a mediocre day of fishing for us. We'd of not known any different. So a big thanks to Captain Bill for a fantastic day of fishing.

This was a great time Halibut fishing. Guides were very friendly and helpful. Boat was comfortable to the fishing hole and we all had plenty of room to fish. Snacks and drinks were available which would have been great if it had taken longer to catch out halibut but it only took 1 hour for 3 of us. Guides were awesome working with my elderly mother that had a great time.

All I have to say is that Jared was awesome. I am one of those type of people that reviews everything before I buy, and this was no exception. Jared came very highly recommended on Trip advisor and I couldn't agree more. He was right there on the dock when we got off the boat waiting for us. His boat was only a 1 minute walk away from where we met him. We got our fishing licenses right now the boat and we were off. The boat was perfect for the 6 people we had aboard. There is ample space for fishing on the back deck. After a gorgeous ride out to where were going to be fishing Jared went right to work getting the lines out in the water. He no sooner got the first line and before he could get the second out we got our first fish. A huge King salmon. The day just got better from there. All 6 of caught more than enough fish and even my 6 year old son caught about 5 fish himself. I would highly recommend Jared and Rainy Day Charters. We booked a 4 hour trip and we will be doing it again with on the next trip.

Thank you very much Jared for a great day on the water.

We were very very disappointed. We thought we were going with Bill and his newer boat. The boat was old and had a lot of garbage in it. It had no bathroom. The captain just moved there in June and it was his first year doing it. He didn't even offer a water. We caught 1 rock fish caught the 4 of us. It was a lot of money for a waste of our time. It was terrible. We wouldn't recommend them. False advertising.

We were going to be cruising from Sept 6-13th and wanted to go salmon fishing for our time in Ketchikan. We found Jared and Rainy Day Charters among several other salmon fishing websites. There was something about the site that told us he was our captain, not to mention that his rates are reasonable and he was very quick to give us a call when we expressed interest through his website. He is a one man operation; that helped to set my mind at ease. A lot of the other companies seemed pretty commercialized and had several different fleets that they operated. Some of them seem a little big for their own good...since some others that we contacted didn't even bother to respond back. We are completely satisfied that we decided to go with Rainy Day Charters. We took the 4hr. salmon fishing charter. The views on the way out to the fishing grounds are awesome with the occasional float plane fly-by. We really lucked out with great weather as well. We had not been fishing since childhood and were a little worried that we would not get the hang of things easily, but Jared got us set right up and had all the right equipment to set the lines at the right depth...all we had to do was reel them in! We were able to catch our limit in the 4hrs. out on the water (6 Silver/Coho salmon each). We were beaming from ear to ear thinking about how our freezer back home would soon be full of fresh and smoked wild Alaskan salmon. Jared also had all of the information for processing right on the boat, and took care of all of the details for us after dropping us off back in town at the cruise ship docks. Jared was a stand-up guy the entire time...very laid back and funny. Seemed like a very genuine guy, and it felt more like going out fishing with a buddy rather than just getting some guide to net your fish for you. We can't think of any better way to spend the day in Ketchikan... and the salmon is absolutely delicious!

While in Ketchikan for the week with friends, we knew we needed to experience salmon fishing. Upon recommendation of a friend, we booked an excursion with Rainy Day Charters. Not being a fisher-person, myself, and being prone to motion sickness, I was skeptical, to say the least. Our group caught seventeen pink salmon with only four of the five actually fishing. I spent my time at the front of the boat on whale lookout. We saw a bull humpback whale, a pod of orcas and a calf and cow humpback! It was spectacular! Jared is incredible. He could not be more kind and accommodating. The boat is neatly kept and snacks and pop are provided. Jared is truly a genuine guy wanting nothing more than his customers to have a great experience.

We arrived by cruise ship and Jared met us as we got off. He really knows his stuff and enjoyed catching salmon as much as we did. When we were finished, he dropped us off near the shops and arranged to have our fish shipped back home. Book with Rainy Day Charters and you won't be disappointed.

Note - the processor charges $2.05 per pound for fresh and $4.05 per pound for smoked - both filleted weights. Shipping worked out to be an additional $10 per pound (approx.) for FedEx overnight. They did a quality job.

We went salmon fishing with Jared two years ago and enjoyed the trip so much we booked him again for our second Alaskan cruise. Trip date was August 6, 2014. Jared met us at the dock exactly as planned, short walk to his boat, and we were off fishing. The weather was great, conversation interesting and fishing was fantastic. Just as we were finishing up 3 lines hit at the same time and Jared handled them all expertly. Ended up with 13 salmon at the end of the afternoon. This was the highlight for our 15 year old son. As we did last time, we had them processed and shipped home. This time we ordered more smoked salmon as that was the best smoked salmon we had ever tasted. On our way back to the dock Jared showed us the totem pole street, explained the history and then pointed out an active eagle's nest. Jared's style is very relaxed but does work hard to find out where the fish are biting. If we should be so fortunate to go on a third cruise to Alaska we would certainly be booking with Jared again.

We contacted Jared @ Rainy Day Charters before taking our cruise . Jared explained the logistic of the charter with us before hand. ie where to locate him, wear layered clothing , what was biting etc.
Jared was waiting at the foot of the gang plank as promised and his boat was a just yards away. After completing the fish license paper work and waiting a few minutes for the fog to lift we headed out of the harbor.
The fog presented a few issues , but Jared was able to over come these and had us at the fishing grounds promptly.
Fishing was slow during the fog, but Jared changed the set ups on the down riggers every 10 minutes or so until he found the combo needed to attract the fish . Jared being a local was able to use his skill to locate the fish and match the equipment to the bite. We caught 4 total , one being to small and was released, but my son and I each caught a silver over 12 lbs and my wife and son' s girlfriend caught their first blue water fish together. Great fun was had by all.
Once the fog lifted we saw how beautiful the area we were fishing in was. Small islands everywhere which kept the wave movement on the boat to little or nothing. (To the relief of my wife).
Jared gave us a tour of the area on the trip back to the ship, and had the paper work ready for us to have our fish processed and shipped home.
We all really enjoyed Jared as a person and a skilled guide . I would recommend Jared and Rainy Day Charters to anyone looking for a good time fishing in these waters.
Thanks Jared, the Gray family.

We contacted Rainy Day Charters before our cruise. When our ship docked and we disembarked in Ketchikan Jared was waiting at the end of the dock, as promised. His boat was litterally only a few feet away so there was no additional transportation or time to delay our fishing excursion.
We boarded the boat, filled out our fishing licenses and headed for the fishing grounds. Literally within 10 minutes of Jared dropping the lines in I caught my first Silver Salmon ... very exciting! Less than 30 minutes later I was reeling in my 2nd!!!

We caught a total of 3 silvers and 1 King but the king had to go back to the ocean to finish growing. We saw eagles, sea lions, jelly fish and absolutely fabulous scenery that morning. Jared also had paperwork available for processing of the fish so that we could have it fileted and/or smoked and shipped to our home to meet our schedule.

We could not be happier with the excursion we planned with Jared and Rainy Day charters. if you are considering taking a private fishing charter in Ketchikan ... this is the one!
Jared is very personable and knowledgable and you will catch fish.

You will NOT be disappointed.
