Amazing walk, or should I say climb in the woods.

My wife and I live in Florida which has no mountains to climb, so when we saw this on trip advisor we decided to try it. The day we were there the fog was very heavy, but at times we could get some great views. The climb for us was longer then we thought it would be. Do to time... More

I got off the ship early and went to the visitor's center at the dock. The lady there had trails maps available. She also offered a personal locator beacon and called me a cab. I highly recommend taking a cab, $12 give or take with tip. Due to my personal time constraints I was only able to hike to the... More

Prior I have been on the harbor mountain trail in Sitka and at first I thought this trail wasn't as bad as that trail but reviews were saying this hike was very strenuous. And later I realized other reviewers were not lying. This trail had A LOT of incline and a lot of rocks on the ground. I have short... More

It was a beautiful day. It was a little easier to climb than I thought it would be. Majestic vistas from the top and of course deer!!!

My wife and I stopped in Ketchikan on our Voyage of the Glaciers cruise. We had researched Deer Mountain Trail and decided to give it a try. It took us about an hour to reach the trailhead from the ship dock by walking. We only had time to make it to the first overlook but thoroughly enjoyed the view once... More

If you want to run away from all the cruise ship madness this is the trip for you. We've decided not to take any organized excursion while in Ketchikan and it was the best decision. Most of the people grab a heli to see the Misty Fjords (which I am sure are beautiful), but it is so nice to just... More

The local tourist information office phoned a taxi for us when we disembarked and we had a quick ride to the Deer Mt Trailhead. It's a steady climb from there, and only from the odd spots here and there do you get a view out past the trees, until you get to the summit.

Based on other review recommendations I took a taxi from the dock to start of the trail. It was a beautiful clear day (first time there was no rain in weeks I was told :-). Brought along a rain/wind jacket, a camelback w/2 liters of water & food. Hiked steady with no stops and it took 1h 42min to the... More

I did this hike twice in the week I stayed in town. The first day was a sunny/clear day and it was amazing to look out at the various points on the mountain where you can see gorgeous views of both town and beyond. On the second attempt, it was a bit rainy and misty and to be honest, I... More

Great hike with some good view points looking out to the harbor. If the hike from the cruise ship dock isn't enough of a work out keep going up the trail to enjoy the beauty. A great afternoon spent hiking! Don't forget to bring along some water.
