Bruce and Bonnie Collins were extremely helpful and went out of their way to help me with a place to stay for an extra night as the airline had messed up my original flights.
The boats are really well set-up for fishing the area along with helpful maps and Rick's advice on where to start fishing.
Also, the accommodations (we had the 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin) was very clean and modern.
Really a great place to call home for a week of fish camp but be prepared for rain and wind and lots of fish !!!

Had a great stay at the lodge overlooking the town of Ketchikan. They provided tackle and maps of places to go to catch fish which proved to be very helpful in our success. Phenomenal hosts and great facilities.

Rick knows the Ketchikan waters so well that he will put you on the best places to fish for salmon and halibut. He is a terrific captain and a pleasure to talk to during a fishing trip. The Coho were late getting in this year, so fishing wasn't good for so many people that came up to Ketchikan the week we were here. We were so glad to have someone who knew the best places to go and has a network of other captains to share daily recommendations. We did very well fishing with Rick. We could only schedule one day with him given how busy he is, so book early. I especially appreciate a captain who loves to fish and gets genuinely excited with us when we have fish on. Thanks again for an outstanding trip. Love to come back in the future.

Spent 3 nights in the 3 bedroom house with my wife and 2 brothers from California. Rick picked us up at the airport, gave us a quick cruise thru the places we would need to go. Grocery store, gas dock, fish cleaning/packing dock etc. Ran us over to the island and after a quick lesson on the operation of the boat and where things were in the house we were on our own. My wife and I are avid fishermen and have a boat quite similar to the Rader we were going to be using so I think that helped with Rick comfort level. He made sure to leave us with contact numbers for him, Bonnie (his wife), and Uncle Clyde (all around helper) if there was anything we needed. Rick encouraged us to drop crab pots that first afternoon and check them in the morning. He even showed us on the charts where to drop them. Unfortunately I don't think we hit the right spot as we came up empty. Fished the south end Sunday morning without any luck. Midmorning we decided to try the north end where we had fished before on a previous trip. Found the fish and loaded up over the next 2 days. Went home with boxes full of fish. The house has everything you could want for, as a matter of fact we felt like we were at home as the house is very similar to our own. Very comfortable and well stocked. We are already booking for next year.

If you are looking to catch fish (lots of fish) Rick and his team will put you on them. Charter or Do it yourself, you can't go wrong with Explore Alaska Charters. The 1st year each member of our group brought home 250lbs of fish. The second year 185lbs each. Looking forward to year 3 and many many more.

I live in Ketchikan and was fortunate to get an invite to join some friends who were visiting from Salt Lake City on a freshwater flyout trip with Rick Collins. Rick met me at the floatplane dock with boots and waders and got me outfitted for my first fly fishing trip. We flew about 30 minutes from Ketchikan to a remote lake to target cutthroat and Rick spent the first 15 minutes giving me a crash course in casting techniques. We were able to get up into the lake inlet and find some great fishing spots where our group could spread out and find some fish.

The rest of my group had a lot of experience and Rick was able to talk in detail about different flies and techniques to the rest of the guys, but also communicate with a novice like me so that I could understand what I needed to do. As I got more proficient as the day went on, he would teach me something new to try that would add to my success.

To top off the fishing, the scenery was some of the most breathtaking I have ever seen. People in Ketchikan don't realize how much beauty there is right in their back yard!

Rick is a first-class guide and a first-class guy!

This was my husband and my second time staying at the 3 Bedroom Beach House. Is perfect for 2 couples. Everyone had space to stretch out and relax after a hard day fishing. Everything you could possibly need is in the house. We had great fun fishing on our own and even managed to catch a 72# halibut which would have had to be released if we had been fishing with a guide. Planning next years trip already!!

We stayed in 2 BR home and used one of the 22 foot boats. Home was very clean and boat was great. David took extra time to make sure we knew how to use everything in the boat. If you are into self guided fishing then this is a perfect choice but do your homework on the area before going because it makes a difference in your success. Don't get me wrong, Rick and his team are glad to help advise you. Make sure you visit the Hole In Wall bar while out on the water!
