We were on a boat tour of the wildlife and waterway environment north of Ketchikan and came across the Totem park. Our tour guide (Captain Jeff of Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles Excursions), spent time pointing out the history of the park and maneuvered his craft in order to get great pictures of the community house and the totems in the... The carvings and their significance in the native culture is very interesting. Lots of history here and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. This is a great overview of Tlingit culture and some beautiful scenery as well.

Many are not aware of this hidden treasure that is near Totem Bight. But it was a great place to visit. It has a gift shop full of awesome knickknacks/tourist items. And the prices were reasonable.. But I only was in there for a few minutes before I loaded the bus. But I was fortunate enough to be at the... More

The poles in the park are incredible. Each pole really tells a story and represents different families. We saw a pole that was in progress of being carved. Sometimes it takes more than a year to complete one. Definitely worth the trip. Part of our Alaska tour

We visited and did not have enough time to do justice to this place. Luckily we were with a knowledgeable driver from the Private Hummer Tours who was able to give us lots of information about what we were seeing. Budget your time to spend some time in the gift shop. We wanted several small totem poles for souvenirs and... More

I admit that, while I knew each portion of a totem has a special meaning, I didn't realize that each told a story. The totems we viewed at Potlatch are beautiful, as are the stories behind them. Our tour guide, known only as Mr. Ed, was fantastic; very funny and very knowledgable.

Just when you thought you had a grasp of Totemic art. Beautiful exterior and interior carvings on walls as well as the story telling pole art. I like that there are displays of varying ages as well as work currently under creation. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? The park could use new plaques at the displays describing the... More

This visit gave us a great overview of the historic and modern uses of totems and the value of them as story telling tools. The totems themselves are very impressive as is the clan house. Worth spending some time here
