Our first visit to Alaska and Ketchikan was made even more special by the awe inspiring trip into the Misty Fiords with the Family Air team. Jim was an excellent pilot who provided great commentary throughout the flight and highlighting certain areas to focus on. The landing within the fiords enabling us to diembark and walk along the coast up to the ice sheets was an amazing experience. Flying in a Beaver topped off the experience., was one on the bucket list. This truely was a highlight of our trip and we would highly recommend this excursion to anyone visiting Ketchikan.

Capt Dave was a great pilot - Anam tour went off with out a hitch and we were so thankful that the weather cleared. We were on a cruise and Family Air Tours picked us up at the dock and returned us with lots of great memories. Our tour guide, Smiley Dave, was very informative and made us feel at ease as we walked from the beach to the observatory. My wife said this was the best trip of the entire cruise - would recommend and would do again…

We did the Misty Fjord flight with Dave. He's fantastic and the scenery is incredible. We were standing on the skiff on Wilson Lake and my 8 year old said "I'm going to remember this for the rest of my life." Quite an experience for her! Our 11 year old was giddy. Dave is very knowledgeable and fun to fly with. Just be sure to ask him to point out particular sights if you're interested in seeing anything you've read about. We were picked up at our hotel 1/2 hr before our trip and dropped off back at the hotel. Very convenient.

We chartered a flight to Anan Creek with this family-owned company with Dave himself as our pilot on the 3rd week of July 2021. Our experience was great from the very beginning. The booking process was effortless. They responded quickly to my emails (my preferred way of communicating). Kendra picked us up from our hotel, The Landing, and we felt very comfortable with her. She gave great recommendations on hiking trails, which we followed. The flight to Anan was on time and smooth. Our bear-viewing guide at Anan, named Bruce, was knowledgeable and personable as well. We encountered three black bears on the way to the observation deck & he kept us safe from them. He gave us clear instructions on what to do (or not) to avoid bad encounters with bears. We had to cancel our flight afterwards to Misty Fjords due to inclement weather, but we trusted Dave with his call. Thanks Dave & Kendra! If we ever return to Ketchikan, we’ll surely fly with you again!

Dave is hilarious with his dry humor and sarcasm. He is an agile pilot, and not only did we have incredible views of misty fjords national monument but we also caught sight of a bear, eagle, mountain goats, and seals, and he helped orient us to other aspects of geographical and land management variation and historical changes in forest conservation views. Really enjoyed our trip and appreciated his expertise, experience, and hospitality. Will even treasure the homemade mask he provided when my little dropped mine in the water upon deplaning. <=) thanks Dave and Kendra!

I had a great afternoon fishing with two very helpful and experienced fishing guides, Nick and Cyrus. I booked a road-based fishing trip with the Hook Up Fly Shop and Guide Service, and was pleasantly surprised to be the only participant and to have two guides. The fly shop is connected with Family Air Tours. They met me very close to the cruise ship and we went to the fly shop to get suited up. The gear was great quality Simms waders/boots, a 9' 4 wt. Redington rod and a Redington reel. We drove to a beautiful creek and with their guidance, I caught (and released) a healthy number of rainbow trout, a cutthroat and a dolly varden. I had my best year of fishing that afternoon! It was nice to be spoiled - the guides rigged the rod, carried it while we waded upstream, gave me great pointers, freed a couple wayward flies from branches, and even took the fish off the flies for me. It was great to get out into the woods and on a river. I had an excellent experience and would recommend Family Air Tours and the Hook Up Fly Shop and Guide Service. And as a plus, there's a very friendly fly shop dog!

Wonderful experience from the getgo making our grandchildren's first flight in a small plane memorable. Booking, pickup from the ship, check in to the flight itself went flawlessly. It doesn't hurt when you have what Mother Nature provides in Alaska. Landing on a lake with the water so smooth and so clear it was hard to know it was there is an amazing experience. Dave, captain and owner, was on point with commentary never letting his words get in the of Mother Nature.

Dave is a highly experienced pilot, having flown in Alaska for 30+ years. He's accommodating, gracious, cares about his passen gers, and he and Kendra run a safe, efficient and reliable business. Family Air, which I've flown with for years, does fly-outs, touring, Misty Fjords excursions, or air taxi. The limitation is the number or persons as the aircraft is a C-185. Highly recommended based upon years of experience with these people. We usually do a fly-out to a remote Forest Service cabin and invariably take too much with us. Somehow, Dave gets it all in, mindful of weight and balance limitations. He also provided a 6 hp motor for use to use, and gas. Thisis not the biggest flight operation in Ketchikan, but it's certainly at the top of the list quality wise. Highly recommended.

This is the best way to go if you are looking for sight seeing and fishing while in Ketchikan. Captain Jim, a very knowledgeable man, will take you up to an amazing remote lake full of big beautiful trout. Our group had an awesome time, we caught tons of fish, and saw the most beautiful sights.

This experience was amazing!! The views were unparalleled and take off/landing in the sea plane was the smoothest take off/landing I’ve ever experienced!
Recommendation, dress in layers! It was surprisingly warm in the plane (remember you’re sitting behind the engine). Bring water with you - especially if you might get air sick. No food allowed but having mints also helps with motion sickness. Hold your phone up against the window to get the best shots without a glare.
Book the flight! It’s like seeing a different world that’s untouched by humans!

If we have availability we would take your family, I would advise one of the shorter tours like Basic Misty Fjords Tour or an action tour like the Mini Fishing Tour.
