I would like to thank Jen and J.R. for a great time fishing for pink salmon. Myself and 4 buddies all would recommend Experience One Charters to everyone going to Ketchikan, Alaska. Booking direct with them will save you a lot of money rather than booking through cruise lines. Everything they said is true,Limited out in about 1 - 1/4 hour. Thank you so much,Ed Wilhelmi

I highly recommend Captains Jenn, JR for family friendly fishing and a great time for more experienced anglers also.
Kick back and relax the fv Experience One is the smoothest ride I've had out of other characters.

We han an excellent experience with two knowledgeable and fun guides. One never knows how the fishing is going to be when you head out. JR told us that there wasn't much action the day before and conditions looked to be the same when we went out. Luckily we started getting hits right away, keeping us and the guides busy for most of our time! There were seven of us and each of us caught at least five with many more that we couldn't get to the boat. All of the equipment and bait was supplied as well as assistance every time we had a fish on the line.

Jen and JR were down to earth good people. Glad we were referred to them by another charter. Beautiful and great day fishing for 7 of us. Caught plenty of fish in 4 hrs and litterly walked of cruise ship onto their boat. Cookies were an added plus and fresh fruit, crackers, and salmon spread were nice. Caught some king salmon but all too small to keep. Mostly pink salmon which was fine for us.

Great and very experienced charter fishing. We received personalized care and attention. Would highly recommend them and go again! They came and met us right off the cruise ship and we walked right there to the fishing boat.

Wild salmon fishing in Ketchikan. We had 4 of us and a one year old baby. Inside cabin area for snacks and happy place for baby. I get sea sick VERY easily, but they encouraged me to bring the baby and try it. I'm so glad I did. The passage where we fished was calm and JR avoided any rough spots. Jen was great at teaching us how to bring the big ones in. We caught our limit in about 3 hours! Pink and silver salmon. The surrounding scenery was spectacular.
We took turns holding baby and catching salmon. Until all lines pulled at once, and we each brought in a fish with daddy holding baby. Jen and JR were great at managing all of us at the same time.
We arrived on a cruise ship and Jen met us at the dock and got us back in time with no stress. We arranged with Jen to have the salmon filleted and delivered to our homes after we returned.

Captain Denise and JR were amazing hosts to our 1/2 day salmon fishing charter. There were 4 in our party and we ALL got our limit in the first 2 hours. It was so fun, and they were so professional.

Great experience!!! Johnny is a great guy! He's the type of fellow who would give you the shirt off his back. Can't say enough good about the entire experience. JR and Jen were awesome on the boat. We caught a load of salmon and had a tremendous time! Would definitely go with them again!! If you get a chance go with Experience One! You won't regret it!!!

RJ and Jen were AMAZING! We had the best time on Experience One. They were so friendly and personable. They provided us with the expertise needed to have a successful day on the water. Getting picked up right from our port was awesome! We can’t wait to be back and fish again!

We went salmon fishing and John and JR were very entertaining. Great at filling us in on the local wildlife, politics, teaching us about fishing, Alaska living, etc.
Myself and my new wife (we were honeymooning) were very excited about this excursion! Number one thing we both wanted to do while we were in Alaska and the reviews on trip advisor were great so we thought we would at least catch 1 fish. It was the beginning of peak season and everything I read and all the locals I called and talked to said expect 5-6 fish if you were fishing for 5 hours.
Call me bitter, but we probably would have caught one had we had the appropriate opportunity.
We were the first ones to book the excursion (we did so direct through Experience One) and then I received a call that 1 other couple was going to join the excursion. It turns out 2 other couples were on the boat when we got there.
There were 6 of us and 6 poles on the boat and to make it fair Capt. John suggested that we rotate poles clockwise every half hour.
We did so and no one really kept track of the poles. One couple caught a fish, the next time a fish hit a pole the same couple went to reel in the catch.
The couple was actually reeling in my brides line. They took home 2 King Salmon that day. (In short one of the fish wasn't theirs)
The 3rd couple on the boat took home 1 King Salmon.
Myself and my new bride came home with 0.
As a suggestion, if you have 3 couples on the boat, draw straws for who gets the first fish, second fish, and third fish. That way at least everyone goes home with 1.
This excursion was entertaining, I would have paid $50-$100ea to have someone drive me around in a boat telling me about the area of Alaska that we were in, BUT certainly not $200/ea + tip which came out to about $500 total.
The $500 cost and leaving empty handed made this excursion a waste for me. I wouldn't recommend Experience One, not because we weren't reeling the King salmon in left and right and not because my expectations were too high, but because 3 couples went on a fishing excursion, 3 King salmon were caught, and one couple went home empty handed. Especially as newly-weds and especially when we paid $500 to catch a fish or two.
I just feel like there was a better way to handle the "fairness" of who gets fish.
Something else to watch out for is the pricing to process and ship the King Salmon. I looked at the pricing chart that Capt. John gave the people for processing/ shipping their king salmon VS the cost on some other local fishing trips and the people who caught King Salmon on our boat were paying 30% - 40% more to ship if home.
In short, we were the first to book the excursion, we were shorted by not only the couple who reeled in the wrong line, but the system (which is flawed), and watch out for a little price gouging based on reputation. Looks like this charter maybe using their reputation to charge a little more.
The rest of our trip was amazing, sorry for my little rant hope it doesn't get you down about your trip! I want to be sure that people have as much info as possible so that they can make the best decision. May the luck always be in your favor! Have fun!

We arrive on Holland Cruise Line on September 13. We dock at 7 am and depart at 1 pm. Does this give us enough time to get on a charter to fish for halibut.

Your ship is in a very short time and for good halibut we feel you need to travel away from town using up a lot of fishing time. You are arriving during the peak of salmon run and it would my suggestion to consider a half day salmon excursion where you maximize your fishing time not taking a boat ride. Johny
