You can relax and watch whale feeding, or go crazy on a zip line, bear tour, catch a salmon or halibut or even take in a culture show in Hoonah. Also you should check out the micro brewery on your walk through town.

The Island is mostly wilderness and uninhabited, therefore beautiful! Unfortunately you cannot see much of it in just a matter of a couple of hours which is all the time we had. Our ship docked in Icy Strait and we took a bus to Hoonah. It is the "wild" of the area that is amazing.

We took a private seaplane and guide from Pack Creek Bear Tours to Chichagof island. The trip exceeded our expectations. Everything was arranged to the smallest detail. We are city people but felt 100% secure going with our little 7 year old daughter into the Alaskan wild to see some bears. Beautiful close up viewing of 3 bears.

We flew in by float plane from Juneau with Bear Creek Outfitters, about a 30 minute flight each way. We stationed ourselves by a water fall and watched a mother brown bear and two large cubs fish for salmon. Beautiful and remote. One of the highlights of our trip to Alaska.

to get to chichagof island from juneau you must take your own boat, or the state ferry. there is no road access... obviously. This is a very authentic Alaskan area- not a sugar coated place, and absolutely gorgeous. Whether you come on a cruise ship, hop aboard a ferry or have the adventure of flying in on a seaplane and take a short hop over to Hoonah. What a pristine area. The native carvers are so industrious and you can see their canoes... More

Chichagof is an excellent, resource rich island. Wildlife, and massive timber to the tune of trillions of board feet, await harvest. Access to raingear is wise. Transportation to and from can be intermittent and weather dependent. A great destination.

Off Juneau is Douglas Island and then Admiralty Island; on the other side of Admiralty Island is Chichagof Island - you need a float plane and/or small boat to get here. It is definitely not an attraction IN Juneau. TA needs to look at a map and fix this !! I doubt you can get to Chichagof except by small... More

I loved the guided hike on the beach and through the forest. Feasting on Bisque made from King Crab on the jetty and learning about the culture of the Tlingit people, their customs and their respect for nature.
