- clippers2018Maidenhead, United Kingdom28 contributionsNot to be missedI spent the whole of June ‘19 travelling across Canada for 3 weeks followed by an 8 day Alaskan inside passage Cruise. I witnessed and experienced some amazing things including a flight over Niagara Falls and Dog Sledding on a Rockies Glacier. However, clear top (and that’s saying something !) amongst the numerous highlights was the Tracy Arm Fjord Cruise. The Cruise lasted 6.5 hours. It started with a switch from cruise ship to a smaller vessel (100 people ?) at 9am with a return to Juneau at 3:30pm. It was spectacular throughout. We cleared early fog to find ourselves on mill pond like water surrounded by magnificent snow capped mountains, valleys and tree lined rock faces, numerous waterfalls, mind boggling ice floes and jaw dropping glaciers. And then there was the wildlife ! As we travelled through the area every turn delivered yet another incredible view. So good was the spectacle any food time outs were very brief affairs ! There were early sightings of bald eagles, basking seals, brown bears at the waters edge and whales ! As we headed towards Juneau we came across a humpback whale crashing it’s fins on the water before submerging and a few seconds later performing a full breach right in front of us. Quite the spectacular finish to the cruise ! Researching this excursion pre cruise it looked fantastic, but exceeded those expectations considerably. I was advised to pre book and was so glad I did as it had sold out when I boarded. If you are doing one excursion make this the one if you possibly can. Truly magnificent.Visited June 2019Written April 14, 2020
- Alan WBaltimore, Maryland47 contributionsAmazing Glacier ExperienceMy wife and I vacationed in Alaska in June/July 2020. We planned to start with a day cruise in Glacier Bay, but that was cancelled for the season. As a backup, we booked a Tracy Arm Fjord tour through Alaska Tours. The boat could handle up to 40 passengers. Due to COVID-19, there were only 13 of us, plus the captain and two hands. The weather in Juneau was gloomy, but we were assured it would improve as we made our way to Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier. It did not get sunny, but it did improve. It was actually almost ideal lighting for photography. But some of the mountain peaks were still in clouds. During the ride, we saw a pod of about six orcas. In the fjord, we saw three black bears on the shore, each with different coloration. There were birds, including bald eagles. Close to the glacier, there were many harbor seals. Tracy Arm Fjord is really beautiful, with its steep valley walls, waterfalls, icebergs, and wildlife. The highlight for us was the Sawyer Glacier itself. Some of the ice is amazingly deep blue. The captain navigated through numerous chunks of ice to get within a few hundred feet of the glacier. The face of the glacier is over 1000 feet wide, and roughly 200 feet high. We spent a pretty long time there, watching "small" calving events. Then, a large block (I estimated 180 feet tall, above the water) separated and fell in the water. That generated significant waves that gave us a fun ride! Be aware that it is cold in the fjord, especially near the glacier.Visited June 2020Written July 23, 2020
- Rosie M1 contributionOcean EndeavorThe crew, Sofia & Alicia, on the Ocean Endeavor were so friendly and lovely. They made such an effort to find what we were looking for such as whales and bears. The glacier itself was so beautiful and the journey was even better. Definitely recommendVisited July 2021Traveled with familyWritten July 20, 2021
- Dennis KPlano, Texas227 contributionsGo For the Dawes GlacierWe were on the Disney Wonder, and Tracy Arm Fjord was one of our destinations. More specifically, we were visiting Dawes Glacier. Although the Wonder got plenty close to see this enormous glacier, we took an excursion on the ship with Allen Tours to get even closer. What an experience! There were icebergs and seals everywhere. Apparently it was pupping season for the seals. The icebergs are beautiful and blue. Some of them have been amazingly sculpted by the currents. Pictures really cannot do the glacier justice. It is very blue, and that is all natural. A lot of cold air comes off the glacier. Plus, the glacier will experience calving, the process by which ice breaks off and becomes the icebergs in the water. You may not see any big pieces break off, but it is impressive when it happens. In addition to the glacier, there are a lot of waterfalls (more accurately called cascades in this instance) that make for some great photo opportunities.Visited June 2022Written August 6, 2022

Although we were on the starboard (left) side, the captain turned ship 360 degrees , allowing everyone a view. Hot chocolate, appetizers and champagne offered on the bow. - eric pTulsa, Oklahoma269 contributionsBeautiful !Did a boat tour of Tracy arm and it's seriously like God plopped down Yosemite NP down in the ocean. Honestly the most beautiful natural area I've experienced. The boat group was friendly and the tour took about 9 hours but it was a fantastic voyage into the wilderness. It started out rainy but still beautiful and the sun broke through at the most beautiful part of the Fjord. We were able to get really close to the glacier and watched it cave a few times and also had lunch while we floated in the gorgeous scenery. We only saw two other boats the entire journey out and back and I would guess this was a covid-19 related thing.. We also saw harbor seals and two bears eating barnacles off the rocks. If you are ever in Juneau, I highly recommend this tour...very beautiful.Visited May 2021Written June 20, 2021
- Judith Ermilio2 contributionsExciting Forrest Walk!We had an excellent guide on our 4 hour walk through the Tsongass Forrest last August 2019! Our college age guide was a descendant of the Tinglit people and not only knowledge about the forrest, the wildlife, the history but also of the natural medicines available to treat a variety of remedies. Our group was given the choice to sample some of these wild berries, leaves, roots, along our walk! We saw all kinds of wildlife and stayed well on the path. We came upon fresh bear scat and fresh foot tracks of most likely a mother bear and cubs, so we high tailed it back to base with the men flanking the rear. I can say for sure that our guide and all on the tour were relieved to get back to our van! A wonderful adventure and we have happy memories and photos!Visited September 2019Written August 21, 2020

This was our favorite part of our visit to Alaska EASILY! The blue color of the ice bergs was stunning. The water changes to a green when you get closer to the glacier. We got to spend about 90 minutes at the glacier and saw lots of it falling into the water. its a very loud sound for sure. You will probably see some wild life. It was an amazing cruise, at one time there must have been 50 to 60 whales along side our ship entering and exiting Tracy Arm Fjord. It is a place you can wear out a camera, every way you look is another perfect photo opportunity. This needs to be on every ones bucket list.Visited September 2019Written January 29, 2020

Because we were on a National Geographic Cruise, which Is a smaller cruise ship, we were able to get within several hundred yards of this amazing glacier! We sat in a Zodiac boat appreciating nature and all her beauty. We saw parts of the glacier fall and waited for a large piece to break off since we could see the crevasses, but time ran out. Hopefully others visiting after us got to see this amazing experience.

We had an amazing all day cruise with Cpt. Steve and his Adventure Bound crew! The fjord has the most spectacular views and we saw only 1 or 2 other boats the whole time. We got right up next to a waterfall and icebergs, close to see the glaciers calving multiple times (they said it was an unusually active day), and saw a bald eagle, seals and a bear. Pictures don't show the magnificent beauty! Highly recommend and don't forget gratuities!

As part of the itinerary provided by Royal Caribbean, we pass through this beautiful place. Full of everything: views, color, life! ! !
This is the kind of places that makes you step back and wonder how one can be so ungrateful with Mother Nature.
A must if possible.

How much does the Tracy Arm Fjord tour cost? Where in Juneau can I book this tour?

I toured Tracy Arm Fjord during an inner passage cruise that included this site in its itinerary. I recommend you google Tracy Arm Fjord tours; you’ll get several tour company sites that offer tours of the site as a stand alone experience ( don’t require you take a cruise to see it.)

I will be taking the July 27th sail with Holland America from Vancouver and we will be in Tracy Arm on July 29th. I already booked the Cataraman for Tracy Arm Fjord from the cruiseline. I'm trying to see whether we have enough time in Juneau after we return from Tracy Arm trip. I have few questions
1. I understand we will be picked up from the ship around 8:30am. Does anyone know when we will be returning to Juneau from this Tracy Arm Catamaran?
2. Will we see whales in the Tracy Arm trip? if so, will it be a waste if we book another whale watching tour after returning to Juneau?
3. What other activities we should consider doing at Juneau if we return to Juneau late?
Thanks in advance for the responses

Morning,
Will be in Tracy Arm Fjord on a Cruise on May, will only be there from 6am-10am. I would love to go in a smaller vessel and experience closer than the cruise ship will allow. Any suggestions? Thank you, Lisa

If you are on Holland America Noordam southbound cruise do the times work to board this excursion? The itinerary states the ship docks at 8:00 am. Do the logistics work to book this?

HI, for this tour you don't get down the cruise, all you can do is watch the galcier over the cruise, so they are telling you that they arrive the glacier area since that hour. SO if you have a balcony stateroom, you might see the glaicer from them, if not need to be on deck at that hour to start watching it.
