    Misty sprays
The walk to Nugget Falls was easy, short and on a good trail. As we got closer to the falls the mist that was spraying out felt refreshing and cool. It was amazing that we could get that close to such a huge water fall and to the glacier. The roaring sounds were incredible! Great place for pictures with rainbows!

Large Waterfall at the base of Glacier
Waterfall was really flowing when we were here at the end of May, not sure if the flow reduces as summer months roll along. Breathtaking and amazing. There is a trail from the visitor centre that takes you right beside it.

    Fresh glacier water!
This beautiful waterfall can be found at the end of the Nugget Falls Trail at the Mendenhall Glacier. While the water does not come from Mendenhall glacier, they share the same icefield, and so fresh glacier water is guaranteed! Feel free to drink water from it, just like I did!

    Worth the hike!!
When you arrive, you are greeted to a simple bus stop that opens into views that only exist in the untouched imaginations of travelers. Raw Alaskan beauty that you can interact with over a short hike to the base of the falls. Crystal clear waters fed by glacial melt from the mountain heights masked by the low clouds that frequent Alaska. When you pull away from Skagway, bundle up if it’s clod but you’ll also want to be in the open air as the views on the way out are equally as stunning

    Beautiful!
Short hike from visitors center- close to a mile each way. The falls were amazing!. There is a small beach near the falls- the locals said it floods and was rising daily, but beach still accessible when we were there. Totally worth it!!

    Go early, beat the crowds
I stayed in Juneau a couple of days and started early to head to Mendenhall on the City Bus. The bus is $2 each way and takes maybe a half hour or so to get to the drop off point, which then is an easy and pretty mile and a half walk on a paved trail to the visitor center area. The trail to the falls is another mile walk, then you walk it all back, but if you are in reasonable shape and have good shoes you should be okay. Have some water and snacks secured in a bag. I also brought a small portable, foldable camp stool/seat in my bag that I used at the falls, so I could sit and look and enjoy in a bit more comfort, which I recommend. When I arrived at the visitor center, there was hardly anyone, on my way back, there were 5 buses and more on the way, and the trails and overlooks were filling up, so go early!

very cool and a must see
Nice place to walk to when taking the tour from Junneau. We got this tour on the dock. Way cheaper than booking on the ship. So, we went to the Mendleson glazier and this is sort of part of the whole thing but you have to walk. So be ready for it. And dress in case it rains. The path was easy for us, for others it could be hard. This was a really neat waterfall to see. You could get very very close. The photos say the rest. Totally worth it.

This is very close to Juneau area. Very good access both hiking and parking. Easy access to glacier and hiking trails. Nugget falls is a must do. Easy flat hike to get right up to the glacier and falls. We went in April and there was still some ice and snow on the trail. We didn't have spikes or crampons but was easily done with hiking boots. Absolutely amazing views and you can literally walk right up to the falls. Great views even if you don't hike. The visitors center was closed and opens end of May. Parking lot is a great, dark place to view the Northern Lights. We saw a little of the lights at around midnight.

Close to this Mendenhall glacier there is Nugget falls which we have to cover by running as our tour was combined with whale watching and we have only 1 hour to cover this Glacier and fall. Reaching to fall itself takes approx 20-25 minutes so you can't waste even a single minute to go to restroom or to be slow with kids. But it was a beautiful place and must watch. I wish I could have more time to spend at fall and Glacier.

We visited Nugget Falls as part of our 3-hr cruise excursion to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau in June. The whole visit was absolutely enjoyable and the whole place was awesome. The features in the area - the mountains, the glacier, the falls, the trails, the forest, the visitor center and the bay (Auk) are absolutely gorgeous. The hike to Nugget Falls from the visitor center was an easy walk on a well maintained trail (about a mile one way). There was tremendous water flow over the falls and the cold spray spread far and wide. The glacier is right next to the waterfall, though only partly in view. One will get a fuller view of the glacier from the short Photo Point trail. Nugget Falls should not be missed while visiting Juneau.

It is about a 40 minute walk (back and forth) from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center to see the falls. The path is a bit undulating, but not difficult at all. Your reward is a lovely view of Nugget Falls.

Next to the Mendenhall glacier. The hike is easy and leads along the lakeshore. There are viewpoints to see the glacier and the falls. Once at the falls, you have a full view of the many falling streams. Beautiful chutes with thundering sounds, beautiful surroundings.

The glacier is far more colorful than I had imagined. The blue areas are actually crystal clear and refract light the same way the blue sky would. It is a receding glacier and dumps tons of fresh water into the ocean every year. Much of that water falls over these falls.
