If you are planning to stop in Juneau as part of a cruise, save your money and DON'T book through the cruise ship.
We walked off the ship and straight to the Juneau Tours booth on the dock, booked a 2-3 hour whale watching tour for $145/person, far less than we would have paid to the cruise line and it was fantastic! Worth every penny, . The crew was terrific and knowledgeable, and they gave a money-back guarantee to see whales. We were not disappointed. No refunds issued on that tour!
I would definitely choose them again, hands down.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 causes our trip to be canceled. Big compliment to Juneau Tours & Whale Watch
Skagway Tours for their responsiveness and professionalism in handling our cancellation. We will be booking them again when we try again to make it to Alaska next year!

We chose Juneau Tours and Whale Watching from the options available on the Juneau dock, after the tour we originally booked through our cruise ship line was cancelled. We glad we did! Calvin, who was the guide on the boat, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and, best of all, we saw LOTS of humpbacks! These local guys know where to go to find the whales! On the way back to port, the captain stopped the boat and hollered, "Orcas!" and sure enough, a number of orcas were indeed near boat--one surfaced right near the back of the boat where we were standing! We compared notes with others on our cruise ship who took whale-watching tours that day in Juneau and we saw WAY more whales than they did. This is the one to take if you want to see whales, and they also combine the whale watching with a stop at Mendenhall Glacier too, if you have time. Highly recommended!

We received extremely bad service from Juneau Whale Watch during our Alaska cruise and we don’t recommend them. They canceled our bus trip to Mendenhall Glacier with no notification and they made no effort to find alternate transportation for us. We booked the bus excursion to Mendenhall Glacier with them online. The information stated by Juneau Whale Watch on the tickets was that their buses would depart at the top and bottom of the hour when cruise ships are in port, and every 20 minutes when busy. We got off our ship and it was not busy at the bus departure location as we were the only ship in port, so we assumed the bus would depart at the top and bottom of the hour as stated on our tickets. We went to the assigned meeting point but no buses were there and no agents to meet us. After waiting for some time to see if a bus would show up, we called to the office, got a recording, and left a message asking when the buses would arrive but nobody returned our call. We waited awhile longer and then texted to the company and they responded that their buses are not running and that they had notified us of that, which they had not done. They did refund the tickets the day before, but we didn’t see the email about the refund until later and there was no indication on the refund notice as to why. If they had legitimately notified us in advance that their buses were not really going to be running, we wouldn’t have had to wander around the bus station out in the cold looking for our bus that we had booked weeks in advance. There was no response to why their buses were not running, or why they didn’t arrange a taxi or other form of transportation for us to get to Mendenhall Glacier if their buses were all out of commission. There was also no uber service and no taxis to be found at the bus station, and the other bus company at the port did not have a bus available until the afternoon, which would not allow us enough time to go to the glacier and assure that we would get back before our ship departed, so we went back to our ship to regroup. It was too late to book anything with our ship so, long story short, we didn’t get to see Mendenhall Glacier because of Juneau Whale Watch and we can’t recommend them.

Hello, we remember this day very well and spoke with you via phone and text. We are so sorry for the inconvenience. You booked a first come first served shuttle at a time where we weren't operating until the afternoon. We caught it the day before, but we understand that wasn't enough time for you to get the message. We actually no longer offer the first come first served shuttle partly because it was too difficult to share all the schedule details of when it would start and stop each day based on the cruise ship schedule out to everyone. This would occasionally lead to people assuming it would be available every 1/2 hour every day of the week all day long, which was not the case. We have improved our system and now all of our tours have a set pick up and return time, so maybe someday you can come back and we will offer a tour with our compliments.

We did the Mendenhall Glacier/whale watching combo. We bought the tour after arriving at the tram from the cruise ship shuttle bus. We were taken to the whale watching first, bus driver gave lots of great info on the area. The boat was a nice size, not too big, fit about 40 people. You could be inside where it was warm looking out big windows or stay outside to freeze. The naturalist was great, very funny and knowledgeable. The scenery was gorgeous! We saw about 5 whales, some males and a mom and baby. We stayed by the mom and baby for 15-20 minutes, the baby was breaching, it was fantastic except we couldn’t get very close. The law says the boats have to stay 100 yards away unless the whales approach them. We were at least 200 yards away. My biggest complaint is the short time we were out there. After seeing the mom and baby and a few sea lions on a buoy, we headed back to the harbor. It’s a ways out to where the whales are so I wish there was a longer tour that spent more time with the whales (maybe there is and I just picked the wrong one). The bus rides to the glacier and back to town were easy and the drivers gave recommendations of where to shop and eat along with local lore and history. You can stay at the glacier as long as you want, until the last bus at around 8 pm or so, I can’t remember. Everyone in the company we worked with was great!

We went whale watching with Zoe and Dustin and saw lots of whales! At first all we saw was the spout, then the top of the back above the water and occasionally the tail as they dove down. But THEN!! we saw a mother and two calves. The calves were playing for about 10-15 minutes and it was AMAZING! They kept rolling over and waving their flippers over and over again as if they were waving to us. And THEN...they started breaching - jumping straight up and falling on their sides repeatedly. No tour can guarantee this, so we were really fortunate. Dustin reminded us several times that the day before the weather was cold and rainy and really windy, so we just lucked out that we had good weather and great sightings.
We also went to Mendenhall Glacier. We specifically requested the whale watch first so that we could spend as much or as little time at the glacier as we wanted. They have a shuttle that picks you up right from the parking lot every half hour. Most tour companies don't offer that service.
BTW, if you email them, they get right back to you and answer all your questions.

We are in Juneau sailing on RCCL Quantum of the Seas. We did not book a tour before getting off the ship as most of them were sold out. We were going to do a trolly tour around the city when we saw this booth at the pier and a friendly salesperson told us we would enjoy the whale watching tour much more. He also let us know they charged much less than the ship ($157pp) and guaranteed we would see whales. We booked it and I’m so glad we did. We had a great bus ride to the harbor and learned about the history and culture of the city through a well informed bus driver (the bald dude). Once we got on the boat, Captain John, Jaden, and Zoe were entertaining and educational. They took time to provide exceptional customer service and made sure to engage everyone in a real meaningful and authentic way. We saw quite a few whales and the boat was comfortable even in the cold weather. I highly recommend this company! This company exceeded my expectations and It was the best 3 hour tour of the cruise.

We went on the Whale Watching tour with Captain Mac, Ford, and Mia!! We saw bubble feeding and at least 8-10 humpback whales. It was AMAZING! The crew was so professional and knowledgeable. We booked the tour separate from our cruise ship and I would highly recommend this family owned company. Clean and safe boats, great crew, and whales, so many whales. The captain and crew did an amazing job of respecting the whales while also making sure that we had an amazing time. This tour is not to be missed! Thank you Captain Mack, Ford, and Mia for this amazing trip!

Got great footage of the whales, they came in threes a couple times, yeah, spraying water simultaneously! Saw some bald eagles too. Especially on the bus ride back. Check the light posts for eagles. And we saw a black bear on the bus ride back too! The whole experience was great.

These people are professionals, it's their duty to make sure we're all safe & back to our cruise ships on time! Don't let the cruise ship's scare tactics bully you into spending (EXTRA) money with them. "Booking the SHIP's excursions will guarantee that you won't be left behind..." I went on the last excursion at 4:30pm and I was back in more than enough time. Actually had a quick king crab dinner at The Hanger, before heading back to the ship. I had a good time! And saved maybe over $100. I paid $177 cash for whale watching. Ship's charge what, like almost $300 or more? With money saved I was allowed to tip Addie $15... her and Calvin were great!!

Great communication! I wasn't sure about how the timing would work with our excursion, but the staff was wonderful and answered quickly all of my questions. I wanted to make sure we had time to hike to the waterfall by the Mendenhall Glacier in addition to seeing the whales. They even sent me some hiking maps in advance so I could see what hikes would work. Our cruise ship ended up changing our port times, but a quick call to the company and they were able to switch us to a morning tour instead.
The whale watch was great! We saw many humpbacks and even orcas! You were able to see from any point on the ship - either inside through the windows or from going on top. The whales didn't totally breach for us, but we saw many spouts and tops of the whales and we all cheered as we watched the tails as the whales took their dives! The guides were great and explained all about the whales and the provided granola bars and water as well. There was a bathroom on the boat - although we didn't use it.... we didn't want to miss out on seeing any whales!
We had enough time at the glacier as well to do our hike. This was self guided and go at your own pace. There were drivers that took us from town to the whale boats and then the same shuttles took us to the glacier and then back. The guides gave us information about glaciers and the area as well along the way. We were very pleased with the entire experience!
