How do you select the best with so many helicopter flights offered in Juneau?
With two different glacier landings and the pilot as your guide, this gave us the best value for money.
The tour includes approximately 50 minutes of helicopter flying time and two separate landings of roughly 15 minutes each. The total tour duration is about 80 minutes. Allow up to 45 minutes for return transportation from where your ship docks and the safety briefing.
After arriving at the heliport, you will be outfitted in glacier boots and given a safety briefing by the friendly tour attendant; thank you, Parrish.
The pilot will choose two other glacier landings among the 36 named glaciers stretched across 1,500 square miles of the Juneau Icefield; a few landing possibilities include the Herbert, Taku, Norris, Gilkey, and Hole in the Wall or the famous Mendenhall Glacier.
Most other tours provide a brief view of the lower glaciers and a shorter flight time with no landings on the glaciers. Therefore, the Pilots Choice is the best.
The flight takes you over ice spires, deep blue crevasses, meltwater pools, beautiful glaciers and mesmerising views of the beautiful Alaskan terrain.
.
With approximately 50 minutes of helicopter time, you have plenty of opportunities to take in views of steep alpine ridges, lush rainforest, and the incredible glaciers below.
Our Temsco Helicopters pilot Josiah was incredible, and we landed on two different glaciers and had the opportunity to spend time walking around Herbert and Mendenhall glaciers.
Josiah kept us excitedly on the edge of our seats as he expertly manoeuvred the aircraft safely between cols in the mountains and landed neatly alongside a crevasse on the glacier. It was thrilling and definitely one of the most amazing experiences we have had flying. Thank you, Josiah.
The colours of the glaciers were gorgeous, and the spectacular mountain ranges were a sight to see. Josiah will also keep you posted on all the wildlife below and the eagles soaring above.
It was a magical morning, an experience we never thought possible, and you will have a bounce in your step for the rest of the day.

My husband and I went heli hiking with Temsco and hiking guide Jeff who was very knowledgeable. It was a fun experience as he showed and explained so many interesting things about the tundra. However I have to say that there was an aspect to our trip that was of concern to us. Everything about Temsco was professional and handled perfectly until we got on the helicopter. We were assigned seats; Mine was on the right front seat . Sitting next to me in the middle front and next to the pilot was a young woman in her 20's who had spent the summer working in Denali. As I secured my seatbelt I saw that she did was not wearing a mask. I motioned to mine and asked if she could put hers on but she gave me a "...." you" look and refused. I looked around her at the pilot and saw that he was also not wearing a mask. Everyone else on the flight, our guide, my husband, myself, and a young man who worked for Temsco was wearing a mask. I thought that FAA regulations on all commercial aircraft require the everyone wear a mask to mitigate the spread of Covid. Anyways; the young women was sneezing and had a runny nose. My husband and I are vaccinated. This hike was on a Wednesday. We returned home from a great trip to Alaska two days later(Friday). Two days later we both got sick and tested positive for Covid. Obviously I cannot prove that we contracted the virus on the helicopter flight but there is a possibility. it would be great if Temsco required their pilots and every passenger to wear masks on board their helicopters.

This was a wonderful experience.
Cameron, our pilot, and the support crew were professional and put us at ease.
The JUne 5, 2022 flight was everything we hoped for and the landing on the glacier was an experience we'll never forget.
We heartily endorse Temsco - from the inquiry we made months prior, the communication in the months that followed, the pickup, safety course, the flight itself, and delivery back to our hotel - this is a top-notch operation.
We'd do it again in a heartbeat.

We took the Glacier Landing Excursion and could not possibly over exaggerate the magnificent experience. From the booking experience to the very end, Temsco was fabulous. Paul (Manager) and his staff were all very professional and responsive. Tyler (Pilot) was obviously a consummate professional with lots of experience and good perception of his "audience". They went well above and beyond to ensure an extraordinary adventure of beauty was enjoyed by our group. We highly recommend anyone take this wonderful opportunity to see the Denali area from above and experience a glacier first hand. You will not regret it.

Our helicopter ride up to the glacier on July 6, 2022, was spectacular. We don't remember the name of our pilot, but he was very informative and made us feel very safe. Once we got off the helicopter, Mark Walker introduced us to his sled dogs and then we got to go for a ride with his beautiful and well-behaved dogs! My daughter got to "mush" them and had a great time! Meeting the puppies was an added thrill, and we will never forget how beautiful the whole experience has been. If you go to Alaska, make sure to visit Temsco Helicopters!

This was our second trip to Juneau and we did the summer camp musher experience and it was amazing to see the dogs work! Gabe was an awesome musher, answering dozens of my questions and questions from the other guests. You can tell he really loves the dogs he gets to care for. They keep the groups small at Gold Rush Dog tours, so there was plenty of puppy time and I didn't feel lost or like I was being a bother. We were a group of 7, but the groups can be as large as 14, but that's still not too many for the personalized attention we received. The iditarod instruction was great too. Show up for the dogs and learn something too.

What a unique experience. Highly recommended. We did the pilot's choice tour and we are glad we did. We were fortunate to have Eric, who is a very experienced pilot and loves to show off the wonderful scenery that SE Alaska has been blessed with. For those that are afraid of helicopters, Eric flies really smooth and straight, and you will feel that you are in an IMAX movie. The weather was fantastic during our flight and Eric decided to fly higher on the Mendenhall Glacier and land on the snow. He also flew between the rocky peaks on the Icefield. We were lucky to have excellent co-passengers from California, who regaled us with funny anecdotes. Trip of a lifetime... maybe many lifetimes... Highly recommend Eric and Temsco.

My father and father in-law went on this Glacier Tour. The flight was amazing, views stunning. The pilot made sure their landing zone was safe and was knowledgable. They enjoyed their time on the glacier. The only con was the helicopter smushes six people inside which is a bit tight and cramped.

We took an excursion to the Mendenhall Glacier with Temsco Helicopters. Everyone we interacted with was really first rate, from the driver, to the team that got us outfitted and loaded and the guides on the glacier.
We flew up the Mendenhall Glacier, while our pilot, Josiah, gave us some information and answered questions. Then we circled back to the landing area where we were met by the guide team. Tommy and Parrish took us to see several areas of the glacier and we even got to drink water from the run off. The experience was amazing and they were informative and made sure our group was safe and had a great time.

I have never been on a helicopter and I do suffer from motion sickness. I always take precautions when on a plane or a boat. I was wondering if the movement is any more substantial than what I'm used to. My husband and I truly want to go on this excursion during our time in port.

Agree! I use meclizine for motion sickness on a cruise ship. I had no motion sickness on the short helicopter ride.

How many passengers go in each helicopter? Would it be five or six? Not including the pilot.

Our helicopter had the pilot and 4 passengers. I did see other types of helicopters but not sure how many would fit.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew the times these trips are offered. I wasnt sure if it was just when people want to go or if there are set times. I wanted to go around 4pm on a weekday. thanks!!

They offer at different times. It is in groups of six I believe ( not including pilot). Four people in back and two passengers in front. Seating is by weight distribution. Lighter people upfront.
Go on their website to see availability. I booked several weeks in advance.

Hi
Can I travel with my 9 month old in the helicopter?
I know the inside is not pressurized like a normal air plane. But you do fly low right?
Please advise!
What safety measures should I take

You do fly low but that is a question you should ask the helicopter operators and your pediatrician.

I've read these types of tours are very short. how long is the time spent flying and how long do you actually get to walk on the glacier?

According to the TEMSCO website, the helicopter ride is 30 minutes and glacier time 20-25 minutes.

Hi Mehmbers_Only. Thank you for your review. How lucky that you were able to do the Temsco Dog Sledding Tour and Glacier Walk in Juneau. We only have the budget for one of these. If we do the dog sledding tour, will we regret not being able to walk on the ice and drink the glacier water? Or is the dog sledding truly amazing? If we do that tour, will we feel like we have actually been "on" a glacier, or does it just feel like a snowy field? Thank you!

In order to get to this particular destination you have to take the helicopter to the Ice field where the dogs are. I was nervous about the same thing but you absolutely feel like you are on a glacier (no drinking of glacier water though). It is a large glacier so you are on a “snow field” but I definitely felt that I was experiencing an Alaskan Glacier. Maybe also look into to some sort of glacier hike or Ice climbing. You might get even more of the “glacier feel” that you are seeking! Hope this helps!

You will need to layer. Gloves, scarf, hat or ear muffs. They supply the boots.
