I am a bit delayed in posting this review. I am putting together our albums just now from last year, and I felt compelled to let everyone know how much we STILL talk about this specific part of our trip.
Our musher Acacia Hammel was so patient as we figured out who wanted to ride where, and she stopped and let us change positions at different points in our journey.
Our day was perfect - It was in the low 60s and sunny, which added to our fun.
The whole experience was so smooth and all the staff was delightful.

Hands down the BEST thing our family did all week as part of our Alaskan Disney Cruise. We will have memories for a lifetime. (and impressing teen boys is hard and we have 2! But they absolutely loved every minute of our time here and have shared pictures to all their friends-Parent score!)
The helicopter ride was wonderful, the views are stunning as you come over the mountains to the sled dog camp. We had Matt Hall as our guide. He was excellent! He was really informative about life as a sled dog owner, taught us about characteristics of his dogs, which we loved hearing about) and what training for Iditarod race looks like. We had a blast learning some basic commands, we went on a warmer day so we gave the dogs lots of breaks, and our favorite was getting to love on them at the end and gave them lots of pets and praise for the great job they did. You can tell he takes great care and pride in his dogs and we love that. We wish him best of luck in his future races. I want to note too, that the other team members were excellent as well. It was neat to hear what life is like during their summer stay up on the mountain. Excellent excursion, can't recommend this experience enough!

Hello Mom2Boys21,
I am so glad to hear your kids enjoyed the tour as that is the toughest age group to impress. Matt is a very accomplished racer and we are very fortunate to have him on our crew. We will let him know about your 5 star review. Thank you and mush on!

We just had an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff were all great, and the helicopter ride was smooth and gorgeous. Everyone at the dog camp was very helpful and Josi showed us the time of our lives with her dog team. We absolutely recommend this for everyone.

Ask for Ryan to be your musher! We had a blast luckily the weather was perfect, lots of sun and amazing views. Ryan was our musher and was amazing, I rode on the rear break for 2/3rds of the sled dog lap , and Ryan was amazing with my 10yr old daughter letting her yell whoa and step on the break. It's hard to judge the experience of others due to alaskas weather where it can be sunny below and cloudy up on the glacier, luckily our day was the first sunny day in a month. So if you have to cancel a trip due to weather go easy on the excursion company/ helicopter flight laws.. they can't control it.. but it was the highlight of our entire cruise

We had a fabulous day with Shaynee and Jeremy and their 46 fur babies and their summer training facilities. This excursion was the highlight of our Alaska trip. Both are so passionate about this sport and were so eager to tell us all about how they train and compete year-round. I could have talked to Shaynee for hours about her experiences running the Iditarod and we could have loved on her sled team for hours as well. I was concerned that this excursion might not live up to my expectations since it was not on snow, but I was wrong. Great experience around!

Dogsledding has always been on our bucket list, and experiencing it on top of a glacier was the cherry on top! Hailey, our musher with Alaska Icefield Expeditions was so informative and made sure we learned about our what we were doing in addition to having fun. Her dogs were amazing (several of them actually ran the Iditerod!) and are so well trained. The entire experience from start to finish was WELL worth the hefty price tag. It's something you do once... don't hesitate, just do it. You'll be glad you did!

My family visited the Norris Glacier dog sledding camp during our cruise to Alaska and it was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had while traveling. The views are simply indescribable and take your breath away as you travel via helicopter to the glacier. Our pilot Mike was first class and did an excellent job at ensuring that we all felt fully safe and totally confident in his abilities. He took us on an amazing route which covered several glaciers and mountain peaks. Upon arrival at the dog sledding camp we were greeted with a smile by Charmayne. She informative, cheerful and clearly very passionate about her dogs! We learned so much with Charmayne and she also helped to take excellent care of my parents who were riding in the first sled with her. We were informed all about the Iditarod race and how she was preparing for it. Overall it was an incredible experience because of Charmyane’s knowledge and expertise. I would highly recommend this experience based on my time working with her!

We had a wonderful experience! The ride up and down was breathtaking, and the actual mushing was so much fun. Our guide was Shaynee, and she was the perfect mix of enthusiastic support and patience. The dogs were adorable and we even got to hold puppies. We would highly recommend this beautiful once-in-a-lifetime addition to your Alaska trip.

We took a helicopter up to the glacier where the dog camp is. We were greeted with fascinating information about the glacier and how the mushers live here with the dogs during the summer months. We then got to meet our team of dogs and away we went. Sam, our musher, was awesome. He told us about why he tried this line of work and why he loves it so much. The sled ride was fun and the scenery on top of the glacier was breathtaking. We got plenty of time to pet the dogs who were all very friendly and well loved. The dogs can’t wait to run and you can tell these mushers love what they do. Definitely take this excursion!! It’s one you won’t forget!!

This was a fantastic experience! Our pilot was professional and showed us an amazing helicopter ride, pointing out the different glaciers and answering our questions.
I was a bit skeptical of the dog sledding until we got to the camp. It was clean and spacious. Being able to sit in the different seat positions, even standing on the back rails gave us a different view and experience.
The dogs were fun to interact with. Like kids, they each had individual personalities and just wanted to run.
The view was breath taking and our entire group returned with huge smiles. What a great experience.

Hello LikeToTravelHoosier,
Thanks for providing valuable feedback and the positive review. You are not alone if you were a little skeptical as a lot of our guests feel the same initially. However, when everyone sees the enthusiasm and eagerness of these huskies to pull a sled, they realize what a wonderful life the dogs have to do what they love. I am glad you enjoyed our tour and hopefully the rest of your trip in Alaska was memorable.

we are doing a dog sled tour in July. What type of clothes do we need? Is a winter coat (im from chicago) and gloves/hats necesary or just sweatshirts? Winter boots or just tennis shoes? Im worried how to pack for this trip. Thanks

Hello Andrea B,
Thank you for checking in, we want you to all be nice and cozy!
We suggest wearing layers. If you have a waterproof/resistant jacket, that would be ideal. Small hiking boots or tennis shoes are perfect as we provide a boot that will go over your shoes to help with traction on the snow.
Accessories, such as hats, sunglasses and gloves can be nice to have, but you'll want to keep in mind that bags are not allowed in the helicopter so whatever you end up not wearing/using, you will be carrying said items on your person.
We do provide storage for your belongings at our base so you'll have a chance to leave things behind if necessary.
I hope this helps!
We look forward to seeing you in July.

Around $560-580 each. An additional charge for those who are over a certain weight (over 300 or 350 lbs, about $130 additional). Is it worth it? Absolutely!

I'll be in Alaska with a cruise that is stopping in Juneau and Skagway. Where is better to do the helicopter and dogsledding excursion. Also, do they pick up from the cruise port?

This is going to sound really dumb. But I was wondering how bumpy of a ride it is on those dogsleds? I would love to do this, but I’m wondering if my 48-year-old back can handle it! Opinions?
