We had a 6 hour salmon and rockfish charter and Capt Chris and Capt Luke made the most of every moment on board. After searching around for different Charter companies, Rum Runners were able to fit us into their schedule and were also the best priced option. Every other company did not offer any kind of transportation to or from downtown to Auke Bay, but Chris came personally to pick us up and dropped us off while playing tour guide and showed us different spots we could go to during the rest of our stay.

As for the fishing, it was the best day of fishing I have had to date. We started out with 9 coho salmon and after three hours we decided to head to another spot for rockfish. Chris and Luke were on top of everything from getting the hooks set to setting the lines in the water. They took care of every little detail and all we had to do was reel in the fish (the best part). They also provided us lunch, coffee, drinks, and snacks.

On our way to fish for rockfish we saw a pod of dolphins and Luke turned us toward the pod and slowed down the boat so the dolphins could swim alongside us for 5 minutes. After they left we continued toward our new spot. They changed the rod set up and within a minute we had a rockfish in the boat. We hit our limit so fast catching rockfish that we had an hour left in our trip. Instead of going in early, they took us to another whale watching spot where we got to see sea lions and whales before we finally headed it in to the bay.

There wasn't a single thing I would have improved during our trip. Capt Chris' dog Luna was also on board and was a great pup who we loved having with us. These guys took care of all the cleaning of the fish and took it all themselves to a processor to get packaged and frozen for us. Obviously, every day can't be as good in terms of fish as our day was, but regardless you will have a great time with Rum Runners and these guys know how to fish. So if you aren't catching fish with them, nobody is catching fish anywhere else. Capt Luke even gave us a can of bear spray to take on our hike with us. Do yourself a favor and book your trip with Rum Runners.

We did the 3.5 - 4 hour captain's choice wildlife tour and it was spectacular. We called on a Wednesday and were able to book a morning tour 2 days later on Friday morning. Chris was very prompt in responding to my text inquiries and he was our captain for the trip as well as Troy who was the naturalist. You get the entire boat to yourself which is fantastic....no sharing with other groups and people you don't know. It makes for a very personal and intimate experience. We saw multiple humpback whales and were able to get the epic "fluke" photograph as they flipped their tails out of the water. Both Chris and Troy are very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. In addition to whales, we saw Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, and bald eagles. We've done a few other whale watching tours in other places around the world, and this was hands-down the best experience we've had. So much so, that I doubt we'll do another whale watching excursion unless it's with Rum Runner.

Capt. Luke took us out for two days of Halibut and Salmon fishing. We had constant action from the moment our lines hit the water until we reeled them in to head home at the end of the day. The boat was super clean and a perfect fit for our group of 6. First mate (also named Luke) was awesome and showed us the ropes. His top-notch net work came in handy as we were landing multiple fish at a time throughout the trip. Cannot recommend Rum Runner Charters more highly!

Family of 5 did 2 days of fishing this week with Rum Runners and Captain Chris. Absolutely first class. Great communication from booking several months ago to the actual days of fishing. Super comfortable boat with a great dog named Luna to keep you company. Drinks and lunch onboard, Great deckhands in Adrianna and Luke. Caught halibut, salmon, rockfish. Dozens of humpback whales were surfacing while we were fishing. Incredible experience. Pulled up dozens of dungenness crabs as well. Captain Chris was great and took care of everything from cleaning the fish and getting them processed for shipping to cleaning and cooking the dungeness crabs. Add the crab pots to your days of fishing. Thanks Captain Chris. Look forward to fishing with you again.

Captain Chris and deckhand Adrienne gave us an amazing whale watch experience! My grandmother from MI was visiting us here in Juneau, and my husband and two children and I were able to book a tour with just our family for the very next day. However, we postponed it to one day later at the suggestion of Captain Chris, who called me that evening after checking the weather and thought the following day would be much calmer and would offer a much better experience. He was right! Both he and Adrienne were very knowledgeable about SE Alaska, the environment, and of course, the whales themselves. At one point you could rotate 90 degrees all the way around the deck and see a whale in every direction, often with a frolicking calf and/or playful sea lions nearby! Light refreshments were provided and the boat was warm and comfortable. Having a Luna, a very sweet Labrador, on board was an added bonus! Captain Chris really made it an enjoyable and memorable day for all of us!

Incredible fishing tour! Captain Luke and his first mate Luke (not related) did an outstanding job of not only getting us on fish, but sharing in the excitement of my teenagers as we caught them. We got into silver and pink salmon, then loaded the cooler with rockfish, ling cod and as a bonus six large Atka mackerel. Having a coonhound in the boat was extra special. Highlight of our Alaska trip exclamation Point. Cannot recommend Captain Luke more highly. Fantastic day!

With some of the most knowledgeable and engaging sailors in Juneau, Rum Runner Charters (Captains Chris and Adrianne and deckhand Luna the Yellow Lab) took our family on one of the best vacation experiences we have ever had. We had a sunny day, friendly discussion about the area wildlife and sightings of humpback whales for our photographer teenager that will crackle his Instagram for months to come. Just as we thought we were heading back into port, our hosts pulled into a quiet inlet of Admiralty Island and hollered from the back of the boat. Out flew the eagles! About 10 of them wheeled right by the boat as the Captains threw herring bites skyward. It was astonishing, and a joyous surprise ending to an absolutely delightful day on the waters of this pristine and spectacular landscape. You cannot lose with this crew and this company. A day for the memory book.

Fantastic trip for myself, my 14 year old son, and my 74 year old father. The fishing was spot on - 3 halibut, 10 salmon, plus rockfish and cod. They took care of everything from food/drinks, cleaning the fish, to shipping them home. 6 hours of fishing enjoyed by all.

This was our first trip to Alaska and our first deep sea fishing adventure and it couldn't have been better. Rum runners charter and their crew was amazing and im glad we chose them.
We caught our fair share of fish, even a rare Lincod. We then went out and saw some great sea life like sealions, sea otter, orcas, and humpback whales.
I would highly recommend them and have zero regrets booking them. It was a fair price for a private boat and the crew was very friendly and and knew what they was doing. They provided food, drinks , and everything we needed.
They definitely helped us have an adventure of a lifetime.

We used Rum Runner back in May of 2019 and had an amazing time (Captain Troy spent a long time helping us find orcas, our bucket list animal). This time, unfortunately, we didn't find orcas (being mid-September) but Captain Chris found us some humpbacks and we had a nice time on the water. They supply a danish snack, and coffee and soda, and we loved Luna the dog who accompanied us (she was great at spotting whales and barking at them). The price, even for only two people, wasn't much different than Royal Caribbean's charge to get into a smaller boat and get closer to a glacier, and we'd rather spend our time on a small boat speeding around looking for whales. We'll definitely use them again.
