It was nice to be able to wander in and look around without any hassle. A good video presentation to watch before heading off on our ‘self-guided’ tour. Lots of portraits to view and it was good to be able to go into the Senate Chamber & the Congressional Chamber, spending as much time as we wanted in each. It was worth the walk from the city centre & we then continued our walk past the Governor’s mansion before heading back into the centre.

We meandered off our Alaskan cruise ship and made our way downtown. Eager to get off the touristy streets, we made our way further into town. We decided to check out the state capitol and are so glad we did! When we went in there was a super friendly and knowledgeable man who welcomed us and gave us some suggestions since we didn’t have enough time to do a guided tour or the entire self-guided tour. We went up to the second floor and checked out the Senate and House chambers. They were so small and quaint! Everything felt so accessible. The building just oozed history and we’re so glad we stopped here. A definite must-do for anyone interested in government who wants an off-the-beaten-path experience in Juneau!

While the building isn’t the most exciting, we were lucky enough to get a tour from some who work there. I believe he was bored and killing time, however still an awesome experience. We learned a lot about the Alaskan Government.
