Adam and the crew were amazing!!! We had never done this kind of fishing before but they were fantastic guides and told us all we needed to know. Within two or three minutes of dropping my first hook, I had a bite. We were primarily fishing for halibut and he knew right where to go. We also caught some cod and rockfish so that was a bonus. They took care of cleaning the fish and getting it to a processor who will ship it to our home at very reasonable prices.

On the way back, we got up close and personal with some fun-loving sea lions and majestic bald eagles. We saw several humpback whales who were not super active but amazing to see. We highly recommend Local Guy Charters for your fishing and whale watching adventures in the Juneau area.

Our whale watching excursion with Adam was fantastic. From the very beginning Adam made us feel comfortable and safe and with his great sense of humor we were laughing the entire time. There were so many whales and I had the opportunity to take tons of photos and videos. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a more personal and intimate experience with amazing views of Alaska's landscapes and wildlife. We had a blast!

Wow, Thank you for the amazing review. We truly believe that time on the boat should not feel like a tour. We want everyone to have a great time and feel like your out with close friends or family. The only way to spend time on the water is to have fun. Very happy that you had a fantastic time. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get to know you. Stay safe! Captain Adam

I've been living in Juneau for close to 15 years now, so I've fished for halibut with friends, on charters, even on a commercial long-liner one time. I do not own my boat. With Covid, offers this summer were nonexistent. So was the fishing charter I promised my nine year old son when we were supposed to have traveled to California earlier this summer. So, I decided to charter a halibut boat here in Juneau, instead. Super glad I called the Local Guy. He and his deckmate, Samantha, provided six hours full of halibut fishing, coho fishing and whale watching for me, my son, his friend, my 12 year old daughter, and my 75 year old father in law. Honestly, I think I might have to make this into an annual tradition.

Truly thank you for the time on the water and the time you spent doing this review. very happy you are "super glad" you made the choice to come out with us. So many plans have been changed due to Covid however I am glad that your time with us was good and good time was had by all. We will be here if you decide to make fishing with us an annual tradition. Thank you, hope the rest of the year is good and all stay safe. Captain Adam

Captain Adam and his deckhand Adrianne were wonderful! The boat was comfortable for the short ride to where we fished for halibut. They baited our hooks for us and unhooked the fish for us. (I didn't want to do that myself!) He took us to the best spot ever: once our lines were in the water, we got bites within 30 seconds...not exaggerating! There were four of us, two lines in the water. My turn came up almost too fast since the fish were biting like crazy. We had our choice of fish...sad the limit was one, but a fun time was had by all! We asked about switching to salmon fishing but we didn't because he checked with another boat that was trying to get salmon and they weren't biting so we appreciated that he didn't waste our time doing that. Since we wore ourselves out quickly so we spend the last 45 minutes or so whale watching. It was a fantastic day and I would highly recommend going with this company.

Honestly I want to say sorry it took so long to get into the fish;) I wish fishing was like that everyday however it usually is not. Halibut fishing is fun yet can be very taxing especially when they hit that often. I knew that using all 4 lines would have been productive but also know that the body needs time to recover. Some of the other reasons to only use 2 rather than 4 lines is we have such strong currents and often causes lines to tangle. Sometimes less is more! I have never been one to waist time, during the time we went out the salmon fishing was slow and can be very boring when they are not biting. I do have to say it was nice to limit out on Halibut and then transition into seeing Humbacks. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and sharing with others. Hope everyone is doing good and are safe. Captain Adam

Captain Adam took my daughter and I out for a 2 1/2 hour "Whale Watching" trip. I would highly recommend The Local Guy!!! We felt very safe and comfortable on our trip. The Captain is a native of Juneau and very knowledgeable. He knew right where the whales would be and they appeared on cue when we arrived in a few different locations. The boat is very solid, well equipped and clean. I hope to return one day and do a fishing trip with The Local Guy:). Please support this family owned business. Thank you Adam for the highlight of our trip to Juneau.

Truly thank you for taking the time to share you're experience while out with us! I am so happy the Whales showed up and put on a show for you both. As for the fishing trip! you let me know when it works out for you and we will make sure to do our best to make it as memorable as we often see Whales while we fish;) Until then, be safe and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get to know you. With changing itinerary on our cruise ship, I sought a charter for a fishing trip that wasn't part of the cruise line excursions. Whenever I spoke with Captain Adam and shared with him our changing Juneau embarkation times, he reassured me that he would make every effort to still make our fishing trip happen. And it did!! With the help of Captain Samantha, my 74 yr old mother and her 3 adult daughters caught our quota of halibut and even had to throw some back. Both captains were personable and made the experience wonderful in our shortened time frame, including transportation by Chris who got us back to ship with time to spare. I would surely recommend booking with Local Guy Charters.

We chartered a private whale watching tour for a party of 5 in late May. We were picked up by Sam (Samantha) across the street from where our cruise ship was docked and enjoyed a scenic 20 minute ride to the marina. We boarded a small boat at the marina and started our whale watching adventure. Our captain, Andrew was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and found humpbacks within a few minutes. We thought it may be too early in the season to see many humpbacks but we were wrong. Travelling in a small boat, we were able to quickly change directions and go where the whales were going.

At the end of the trip, Andrew asked if we wanted to see some Bald eagles up close. Of course we did! What a treat! At one point we had 5 eagles around the boat. This was everyone's favorite part.

The boat is enclosed in the front and open in the back. Meaning you can sit inside in comfort or stand outside to get closer to nature. I have problems with balance, but did not have any problem getting on/off the boat or moving around the boat. There were enough places to grab onto to that made it easy for me to go back and forth from inside to outside.

As a side note, I realized the day before our charter with The Local Guy Charters & Sightseeing
that I had scheduled the wrong day! I frantically contacted them via email (the only way to communicate from the cruise ship) and the owner (Adam) said that he could make the last minute change. Whew!

I'm so glad we chose to book with The Local Guy Charters & Sightseeing.

One more thing... on the ride back to downtown Juneau, I asked Adam for a recommendation for a place to get some good local food. He told us to go to Deckhand Dave's. Wow, what a great suggestion! Read my review on Deckhand Dave's to learn more.

Maybe thank luck for sighting the pod of Killer Whales near the Taku Inlet in route to Tracy Arm Fjord. Maybe thank grace for the perfect weather and still seas. There is no denying though it was Capt. Adam Underwood’s skill that gave us an amazing view of the Sawyer Glacier. His knowledge of the sounds of natural breaking away of the glacier’s outermost edges alerted us to witness tremendous ablation in the calving of an iceberg. Capt. Adam was a fun companion, safely maneuvering up to an iceberg so we could experience touching and seeing how deep it actually protrudes into the water beneath. We gathered dense chunks of floating ice for the cooler and he spotted a sea lion lounging on an iceberg. On our trip back toward Juneau, we mentioned our desire to see Humpback Whales. Capt. Adam’s skill quickly spotted whale plumes in the Holkham Bay. He placed the boat in the center of a large pod of maybe twenty whales. We were surrounded and thrilled to see them roll and breach and hear them groan. It was truly a memorable trip of a lifetime.

Don, Thank you for sharing your experience. The trip was truly one for the memory books! This was the first time I had witnessed the amount of whales in that area and happy to have been able to shared it with you all. Once again thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get to know you all. Thank you for everything, Be safe. Captain Adam

We used Local Guy Charters for three different events and all of us had a really great time. We were two adult couples with one adult who loves fishing, one who enjoys it and two who really just enjoy getting out on the water. Our first event was whale watching and we saw lots of whales including a mother and a calve. We saw multiple tails and spouts and Andrew ended our time with a trip out to see more sea lions than we could count. The next day we all went out for a half day trip of halibut fishing. It was some work but all of us got at least one fish and we sent four halibut home for dinner and fish stories. Because we had so much fun, the guys really wanted to go back out fishing for king salmon - so two days later, they were out again catching salmon. We really had a great time and both Andrew and Caleb were so nice and made the trip fun for all of us, not just the guy who loves fishing. If we ever go to Juneau again, we will definitely connect with them and have them take us out again. We highly recommend them - they truly are local guys and we felt very grateful to have had them take us out to see the beauty of Juneau for three of the six days we were there! Thanks for all of the great times and memories!

I chartered the boat to go Halibut fishing while we were in Juneau. The owner came and picked us up at the hotel and said fishing in terrible and I think you should rethink about going. He convinced us not to go and refunded our fishing licenses and the fishing trip costs.
I think this operation is first class for being honest and forthright. The next time I am in Juneau I will try again to go Halibut fishing with the " The Local Guy"

I apologize that we did not go out! But, I feel that being honest is the only way to go. The halibut fishing in the local waters was bad for the time of year. Definitely an anomaly and it did start to improve. Thank you for being so understanding. Sometimes the fishing is good and then it just shuts down. Never a guarantee fishing but knowing its not good and taking people out knowingly in my opinion is theft. Ill be looking forward to the next time you are intown and wanting to try your luck. Until then, stay safe and healthy. Captain Adam
