I am going to start off by just fully disclosing that I am totally and 100% biased towards Wings Airways because my husband and i got MARRIED out at Taku Glacier Lodge this past April and our experience with Wings was so far above and beyond any hope or expectation.
First off, we planned our entire wedding in TWO months and two days, and we happened to be planning it around the very beginning of Wings’ summer flying season while they were prepping staff and training pilots. Our wedding also happened to be the very first Otter trip out to the lodge this past 2024 season - they totally went out of their way to make this happen for us! The planning and considerations of the staff over at Wings Airways was so SO appreciated. Sean (husband) and I had 15 wedding guests piled in two airplanes, and when we arrived at the airplanes on wedding day, Wings staff had even unexpectedly decorated the inside of the Otters for us! We felt SO loved the way they went over the top and took care of us - from decorating the airplanes to scoping out the best location at the actual lodge for us to have our ceremony (they found the only little snow-less patch of grass for us with the stunning glacier backdrop :))
Our wedding day was so magical and perfect, and all the puzzle pieces coming together so beautifully and seamlessly was due to Wings Airways’ own Holly, Arne, Samantha, Dave, Don, Matt, and Rebecca. It evidently is a big family over at Wings, and we without a doubt felt that!!
So although our experience with Wings Airways goes a little deeper than some others, I 101% recommend taking your next trip with them! You’re not flying with a company, you’re flying with a family, and they will treat you as such. And the beautiful country the pilots have the opportunity of showing you on their flight tours as well as the lodge experience is truly once-in-a-lifetime - even more so if you get married there ;)
Thank you Wings Airways for the overwhelming love you showed Sean and I.
P.S. The champagne gift made for an absolutely wonderful downtown-photos aesthetic :)

We have a wonderful experience! The weather was great, the scenary was breathtaking! The pilot was skilled, everyting was well organized. We boughts the tickets online, one day before, after checking the weather; some people in our group (10 people in the plane) told us they bought tickets onsite, cheaper than us. We have the 4.30 PM tour and the weather was perfect (fog in the morning, until 1 PM). We are very glad we took this tour, the experience is incredible, I cannot describe it in words!
I definitely recommend this tour!

This was AMAZING! I have always wanted to take a float plane. To knock out 5 glaciers in one flight with views beyond words was worth the price of admission. The weather was beautiful which we hear is rare. So we got lucky on that. Our pilot of the Blue Plane on July, 21st on the 3PM flight did an amazing tour for us! It truly was at least my highlight of our trip to Alaska. I recommend very highly to take this tour!

I've lived in Juneau almost 30 years and I've never been to Taku Lodge, until now. Why did I wait so long? The experience was much more than I expected. The flight up the Taku to the lodge was filled with great views of the Juneau icefield (and mountain goats). The experienced pilot quickly made me feel comfortable in his skills (my first flight in an Otter). Arriving at the lodge we were greeting by friendly staff and a beautiful setting. The meal of fresh salmon was top notch, as good as anything served in town. After the meal we explored the grounds a bit and just before our return flight we were treated to a visit from a black bear. All in all it was an exceptional experience and I highly recommend this excursion to locals and visitors alike.

On Aug 10, 2024. This company ruined our Alaska trip. Carnival Cruise informed us on Aug 6 that our 08:30 Taku Lodge trip was cancelled due to weather but assured us that we could go with the 10:30 trip. We are family of 3. Me, my husband and 5 year old child. On Aug 9, I double checked with Carnival cruise , they said they informed Wings Airways in the email regarding us being in the final count for the 7 people going to Taku Lodge. On Aug 10, we checked in with Wings Airways at 10am. They checked our weights. Then gave us tickets for the Eagles plane. We waited in line until 10:50. We saw the seaplane coming in. All of a sudden, the staff called us, and told us that they overbooked. She said we couldn't go. They blamed the carnival cruise saying our names were not included. They lied. They just let other people that wasn't even on the list. And just decided that the three of us should not be included. It could be because of our race (we're Asian) or because my 5 year old child's ticket was cheaper. I told Carnival cruise about what happened and they said that our names were on the list from the very beginning. In fact there was another 1 passenger who wanted to do the tour, and that passenger just booked it the day before. That passenger was able to do the tour but not us. They wasted our precious time while in Juneau by having us wait for the seaplane when we couldn't even fly in. It was a year of planning for our part. A year's worth of going to work so we could have enough time to get vacation leave. A years worth to do what we always wanted, to see the glaciers of Alaska. We were celebrating our 22nd Anniversary and birthday of my kid. This company is greedy.

We are truly sorry for the experience you had on August 10, 2024. We understand how special this trip was for you and your family, and we are deeply sorry that we were unable to provide the experience you had planned for your anniversary and your child’s birthday. Your disappointment is valid, and we regret the way this situation unfolded.
While we strive to partner effectively with Carnival Cruise to ensure all guests are accommodated, it’s clear that communication and logistics fell short that day. We apologize if there was any confusion regarding your reservation and the seating on the flight, and we are reviewing what happened to ensure this does not occur again. We want to assure you that the safety and care of every guest is our highest priority, and we would never intentionally exclude or treat any guest unfairly under any circumstance, including based on race, age, or any other factor. We are truly sorry if you were made to feel otherwise—that was certainly not our intent.
We understand that your time in Juneau was limited and that this incident took away from what was meant to be a joyful and memorable celebration for your family. This is not the standard of service we aim to deliver, and we regret that we did not provide you with the exceptional experience we promise all of our guests.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback—we will use it to learn and improve. We sincerely hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your time in Alaska, and we'd welcome the opportunity to provide the experience you had envisioned if your travels ever bring you back to Juneau.

Not worth the $900 we spent for two of us. We were given a set time to meet and then had to wait another 40 minutes just for them to pack us into a big group and treat us like numbers. That 40 minutes counted towards the “3.5 hour tour duration”. Once at the lodge the nicest table was reserved for the “owners” so the rest of us were crammed into three other tables. We were told the food was limited and to only take a little bit; and to top it off the salmon was cold. Staff was not friendly with the exception of the seasonal staff Treated poorly from start to finish and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

This was hands down the highlight of my entire Alaskan holiday! It was absolutely worth splurging on because it's something I will never forget.
The plane ride was surprisingly smooth for being a small plane. The views were amazing and the narration through the headset was informative.
The lodge and grounds were stunning. We had time to explore on our own before lunch so I walked along the shore with a mug of spiced tea, heaven! Lunch was delicious, loved every part of it. Then we went on a guided walk to a waterfall which was the perfect way to end our time there.
The gift shop was also pretty cute and had a variety of souvenirs, both Alaskan themed and Taku Lodge specific.
All of the staff, from Wings Airways and Taku Lodge, were incredibly friendly and I could tell how much they love working where they do.

Words cannot describe this amazing experience! It was so much more than I expected, and will be a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life.
The views of the ice fields and mountains from the air is breathtaking… the photos just don’t capture the beauty. The flight was very informative and we loved our pilot! After a very smooth landing we were given some time to soak up the beauty, walk around or sit in the various spots that are arranged so you feel like the only person out there.
Then. came. The feast.
Freshly caught salmon cooked on the grill accompanied by several home-made sides…. The biscuits. Oh the biscuits. And beer. And the other drinks had glacier ice in them! While we were eating, the staff entertained and educated us with story of how the lodge came to be and the life of the amazing woman behind it.
Seriously. Put this on your bucket list. It is so worth it. I only hope to go back someday.

As a local, it often takes out of town visitors to lure me to what is often considered a 'tourist attraction', so I give great thanks to my kiwi friends and partner for this fabulous visit to Taku Glacier Lodge. The flight was magical, with our one friend offered the co-pilot seat (he may or may not have been brought to tears from awe). The staff at the lodge were friendly and informative and the meal was delicious. We were able to walk to the waterfall and enjoy the grounds and the Hole in the Wall glacier before heading back to lovely Juneau. Many thanks for the experience and the safe journey there and back. I highly recommend this excursion.

We booked the 5-glacier seaplane flight with Wings Airways in advance online and had a fantastic experience. The flight and our cruise into Glacier Bay were the two biggest highlights of our Alaska trip. The flight left on time; the pilot and staff were polite and professional; the weather cooperated; and the scenery was incredible!! The price of the flight was not cheap, but we felt the cost was money very well spent.

What is the cost of the Taku Glacier meal and Wings Airways excursion?
Written February 24, 2023
We paid about $400 a person, but it was worth it. It was the highlight of a pretty great trip.

Can we get to/from the plan easily from the cruise ship docks?
And if our ship leaves at 10pm, can we be assured we'll be back in time if we do the last flight of the day @ 5pm?

We went on one of your tours and it was terrific! We have a bet on whether the plane had floats with wheels tucked up inside it not, though. It was the yellow DeHavilland Otter that we flew in. We did the 45-60min glacier tour out of Juneau. I can send a pic of the plane, if needed.
Thanks!

Greetings from Juneau! All of our aircraft have what's known as "straight-floats", basically all float access and no wheels. You were on our N337AK and that is a straight-float airplane. We use these because we are always traveling from water to water! Other companies may need the diversity of traveling from a water runway to a land runway and we call those "amphibs" or amphibious aircraft. There are many of those in Southeast Alaska because of the diversity of our traveling needs. Now Im curious who won the bet???
Thank you for flying with us! From our family to yours HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! All the best, Holly

I am curious about the float plane ride. If you have a tendency to get motion sickness, would this flight be a bad idea? I only get queasy on a regular airplane if I can't see out while taxiing while still on the ground. Once in the air, I'm fine.
Written April 9, 2019
My friend who gets motion sickness did great. We drank ginger tea and chewed ginger candy beforehand and did fine. Great excursion

I'll be in Juneau on a cruise May 19th. I was looking at the time options and see 8:30am and 3:30pm. I was wondering if more flights in the morning have to be cancelled because of fog or weather? Just looking to have the highest chance possible of the flight. Thank you!

When we went, the helicopter rides were cancelled that were scheduled in the morning, but not the planes. Afternoon is a safer time!!

Can I book this flight at the cruise terminal?
Written June 10, 2018
We booked with our cruise line. This is sold out very early so you should not wait until you get to the Terminal. You can book directly with Wings Airways & The Taku Glacier Lodge I believe. google their site.

If we go on a cruise ship Day in July how many peopleCan we expect to be there ? We tend not to like crowded activities and am trying to understand what the experience would be like.
Written June 4, 2018
I went in mid July. I hope this response isn't too late. There are 8 people to a plane. And there are about 5 or 6 planes going out for each dinner sitting. I hopes this helps.

Did you see a bear? Is it getting to be to late in the year to see bears? We are going next week.
Written September 21, 2017
When we went we asked the Salmon grill master about the bears and he said there was roughly a 75% chance. We got lucky and had a Momma and a baby on the grill eating off the remaining bits then they moved to a nearby tree where the baby climbed up and down the tree. Obvious hit and miss but the Sea plane ride and the Salmon dinner are both remarkable. BTW they sell beer and wine at the lodge
