We went with a group of 15 and a guide in a 'native' canoe. The round trip was 2 hours of steady paddling but the reward was to get close enough to admire the colours and sounds of the ice. Thrilling!

Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls were both majestic. I was in awe of the icebergs that were floating in the lake - white on the exterior and a deep blue inside. The visitor center was well-done - a lot of information was presented in an easy-to-understand fashion. My 93-year-old mother was thrilled to hold a piece of ice that was... More

The glacier was fun to visit. There are a variety of trails, so you can get a little closer and see it from different directions

We went two days in a row. The first day we went in the afternoon the first day, it was pouring rain, but we still had a great short hike to the falls and saw a mama black bear and 3 cubs. We later learned tis is "Nicky" a well known bear. The next day we hiked the East glacier... More

The Glacier was beyond belief beautiful! It truly has to be visited to believe the amazing blue ice, I've never seen anything like it before. Make sure you dress in layers as the weather is constantly changing and can get very cold/windy. Spend a fair amount of time there and also make sure you go with a reputable tour guide.... More

The west part consistitute a trail to get on the glacier. You can get a taxi to go over there which cost around 35 to 45 USD one way. If you are in a group you can split the care. It is highly advisable to get a guide who know the place. The trail is quite challenging and requires good... More

We visited Mendenhall Glacier ten years ago on our honeymoon and this was one place we wanted to revisit. We were on a whale and glacier tour which took us to the boat first and the glacier second. This was not good since we only had about 30 minutes to see the glacier before it got dark (mid-September). Despite this,... More

Such a beautiful site... and there is a boardwalk that you can walk along with the hopes of watching bears. We saw a mama with her three cubs. Thrilling! The rangers hang out and are easy to talk to. The glacier is just amazing... well worth going and very close to Juneau.

Little wildlife viewed. But the porcupine was cute and the ranger did not choke when asked what time the bears would show up
