We stopped here during our week long back packing trip through Alaska. The staff here was friendly and showed their love and knowledge for rafting immediately. They organized our group and geared us up efficiently (dry suit, life vest, helmet and shoes). I was particularly impressed that they had us do a "swim/float" test before we even started rafting to let us experience what moving water feels like so the first time we hit the water wouldn't be when we fell out of the raft. This was the first rafting place that has done this that I've been to, but I think every rafting place should start doing this.

John Brown was our raft guide and kept the atmosphere of the boat fun. 4 out of 6 of us fell out of the raft at one point, but we all recovered fine and continued on our journey through the three canyons. They have a photographer taking photos along the way with photos for viewing and purchase as well.

They had a few articles on the wall of their lobby of some rafting trips gone wrong on that actual river with improper gear or people going out without much experience showing the danger of not being prepared, but this company was definitely prepared and had the experience to lead us through safely and made for an awesome adventure. Definitely give them a call for your white water rafting needs.

Working as a lodge owner in Homer Alaska, we are always looking for great companies to send our guests through...companies with great customer service who are concerned about the experiences their guests have. We rafted all three canyons with a total of 21 people in four rafts...and I can honestly say, EVERYONE had a great experience. All four guides were fantastic, their equipment and dry suits were high quality, and they lived and preached safety. Yes, the scenery is stunning all the way through, and you won't find better whitewater in Alaska. I chose this company over their competitors because being in the business...I know right away over the phone who was the better company. The other company was stiff and rigid over the phone...but Chugach was super friendly, very relational, and kindly professional...just like how we like to run our operation. This trip was so worth the time and money! Our personal guide was super engaging, great sense of humor, very experienced, and loved what he was doing. A real pro. And the other three guides carried themselves the same way. No hesitation on my part...five stars plus all the way!

Our trip down 6 mile creek involved the following:
-Drysuits that really did keep us dry underneath
-A lot of layering to warmth, although we do get cold at times on the river
-A dump into the river for our entire boat that was quickly and effectively remedied (our guide stayed on and kept everyone safe)
-2 bald eagle sightings
-Silly Shorts (you have to see it in person to truly appreciate silly shorts)
-Fabulous memories of some seriously high adventure

Looking for adventure and not afraid of being a little cold and wet? Check these guys out.

Beautiful drive to Hope Alaska from Anchorage. Great choice to be active, see amazing sights and appreciate getting away from it all. Listen to your guide and you will have an exhilarating experience. Remember to bring a change of socks. We stopped at Alyeska for dinner afterwards. Saw children as young as 14 and athletic couples in their 70s with our group smiling and loving it. Pretty sure all would do it again and recommend it. The staff is impressive from the person who answers the phone to the guides. Safety is obviously important and the guides are great at keeping you safe but entertained.

My 20 yo son, 14 yo daughter and I decided to try the class 3 and class 4 rapids. They had extensive training which included getting into the extremely cold 38 degree river water to prove you can swim across the river, then float on your back with feet downstream, then quickly turn into an Eddie and pull your tired body out of the frigid water with all the wet heavy gear intact. It was exhausting! We then got more instruction on what to expect in the first two canyons. They we had a fun tour guide named Tommy who told excellent stories. He made us feel very safe and confident in his skills as well as made all of us feel like we knew what we were doing with his easy to understand instructions. We all had an awesome time. When it came to attempt the 3 rd canyon all but one of us decided to stay on. Tommy really got us all excited and ready to take on the big class 5 rapids. We only had 5 rafters plus our guide Tommy on the raft class 5, but we rearranged everyone and decided to move on. It was the best and most exciting time ever. It was truly a thrill of a life time and I was so glad we decided to go for it! My kids absolutely loved it! We really would like to come again. Tommy definitely earned a nice tip that day! We hope to come back to anchorage again some day soon and we will definitely look up having Tommy be our guide again! He is the best ever!!! We did purchase the disc so that we can always remember our amazing white water trip! Thanks again for the best memories ever!,

Well that was an experience!! We have been rafting in many places over the world and in the U.S., including doing a 7m waterfall in New Zealand. Nothing we have done matched the intensity of this tour! Both of us feel comfortable rafting and in the water. We have been trained on rafting rescue. We have never flipped, much less fallen out of a raft. I knew this tour would be different so I felt apprehension despite our experiences. The safety talk before the raft was the most comprehensive briefing we heard, but it also inspired so much confidence in the guides - they are very well trained and know what to do to keep your safe. There was a guide, Tommy, whose purpose was to row along your rafts in the canyons and rescue anyone who fell out if needed (Spoilers! He rescued my husband). They super prepare you for how to rescue yourself if you fall out and I felt perfectly safe with the guides. The swim test is a bit daunting but you are well prepared for it and is a good measure to help you know what you are capable of. For example, I was fine for the first part of the test but had to be rope rescued (which was actually quite fun) for the second part where you need to swim to the raft. Based on that I knew the third canyon was probably not a good fit. However, I had so much fun with the first two canyons which were the most intense of my life. We flipped all the way at the end of the second raft. Our guide Greg got the raft flipped back and us inside in no time. I came out smiling but had enough thrills for the day and sat out the third canyon. The option to decide to skip the last canyon and get refunded is so appreciated because you can really focus on safety / knowing your limits without feeling pressure. The company understands that the point of this tour is to have fun and stay safe and not to put yourself in a situation you are not comfortable with. My husband continued to the third canyon. He fell out two more times and came back with only one shoe. He was also beaming having had the time of his life! This was hands down one of his favorite tours. Big shout out to Dawn from the office who was wonderful to communicate with, our fearless guide Greg, and to Tommy. It was privilege rafting with this company. I would love to come back some day and tackle that third canyon!

We (husband, 12-year old son and I) did the 2-canyon trip in mid June 2020. I was dreading the swim test in the frigid water but it really did make me more relaxed once we faced the rapids. Gumby was our guide. He was fun and EXTREMELY SKILLED. We had total confidence in him. Dawn in the office was a big help when I called from Atlanta to do our trip planning. And Dana, the photographer, helped me after I returned home in locating the picture of my son grinning ear-to-ear after I foolishly left the shop without buying it. For a guaranteed great time, this is a must do.

I have lived in Alaska for 35 years, and this has been on my must-do list for at least 30. I finally went with my daughter and her friends, and it was worth the wait! The river is beautiful, so just from a scenery standpoint, it would be worth doing, but of course, Sixmile Creek is all about the whitewater. I have done quite a bit of whitewater rafting through the years, and this beats everything else I have done hands down. So intense and so fun. Our guide was professional and courteous. I can't say enough good about this. One of the best things I have done.

This tour was recommended by our friends (Hope locals) when I mentioned wanting to get out in the water.... being from Maui, this was probably the coldest water I have ever gotten in... but it was Awesome! we saw some fast and furious white-water rapids (level 4? I think) The guides were all very professional, but still a lot of fun, joking about and keeping everyone smiling, but withouts sacrificing a safety-1st mentality.
If you're visiting Alaska and want to try something exciting, this tour was fantastic!
