If you travel a lot, and I have, you know a guide can make all the difference. Alaska is so beautiful and so different that it is a must-see. But it so big that you need some help to make the best use of your time. I'm glad my wife and I decided on letting Adventure Alaska help us have the 'adventure' of a lifetime. We hope to visit their base in Texas soon.

We toured in July 2018 with this company. Our guide Patrick was amazing. He is incredibly well informed and takes care of everything. This is a small group tour and allows you to get off the beaten track and see the real Alaska. We saw lots of wildlife, visited Dawson city, hiked on a glacier, played with Alaskan sled dog puppies and much much more. I will never forget the experiences we had on this trip.

An early anniversary tour with no worries, just enjoyment! We bused to TAlkeetna, and stayed at a great lodge then flew around Mt Denali on a gorgeous day! The train ride to Denali was spectacular and stayed at another lodge! The bus tour through Denali N.P was a great photo op! The last day we rafted the Nenana River and then took the train back to Anchorage. All for a great price and well organized package! It was special even tho we live in Anchorage! You can see the photos on youtube! under = Brad Towle 25th Anniv Trip part 1 or 2...

The small group tour covers over 1500 miles on the road and is a 7 day whirl wind tour of Alaska, a fantastic way to discover Alaska’s vast geography, see the wildlife and learn about its history. You visit at least 3 national parks including Denali, Wrangell St Elias and Kenai. You need to accept that you will spend a considerable number of hours driving around in a mini-bus (sometimes on really bumpy roads – part of the fun!) in order to cover the territory. This is not a holiday where you can do a lot of hiking because of the packed itinerary; therefore we definitely recommend you consider the 9 day tour if you want more time to explore. We were lucky since we only had 7 people on our tour (maximum of 10 per tour) and that was a nice since that meant the minibus was pretty spacious.

Our charming guide and driver Patrick was essential since he knew all about the roads (carrying 2 spare tyres in the bus), the local history and the best spots to see some wildlife and to get the views. He told some great stories. He was always willing to stop the car (or back track) if we spotted some wildlife. He found some charming spots e.g. a beaver dam & a beautiful lake to skim stones. The ferry or catamaran tour of the Kenai fjords was fantastic.

You need to accept you will be sleeping in some pretty basic accommodation and sometimes, share your bathroom with your fellow travellers. This is fine since almost all of the facilities (e.g. Tangle River Inn) were clean and in keeping with the local setting. Ma Johnson’s hotel was wonderfully charming and we really enjoyed its old world charm. However the accommodation in Valdez (called the Downtown B&B Inn) was grim and dirty. There are other hotels in Valdez (with better ratings) and we strongly recommend the tour company choose another option.

The tour ended in Hope where the tour company is based and it was lovely to spend more than one night in one place at the relaxing Discovery cabins.

Thank you very much Adventure Alaska & Patrick for putting together a unforgettable trip.

Adventure Alaska and master guide Patrick put together a spectacular 9-day tour that traverses a vast swath of SE Alaska and introduced us to the 49th state’s infinite charms. From Denali to it’s infamous “highway”, to the heart of unparalleled Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and the Kennicott and Root Glaciers, from a mystical sunrise off the back of the Valdez to Whittier ferry to the stunning vistas of the Kenai Fjords and glacier calving, then on to a relaxing finish in Hope, this tour served to reset our perspective on life. Everything was taken care of, which left pure enjoyment. Patrick's knowledge of Alaska, her history and her people made this trip a cultural experience. Well-done, Bureau family and Patrick!

Do yourself a favor and skip the cruise…or add a trip with Adventure Alaska to the cruise. We took the 9 day trip in early July and thought it was great! Our guide, Patrick, really made our tour special. I’ll never forget driving east on the Denali Highway - a gravel road that rental cars and buses aren’t allowed on. The further we went the more beautiful it became. As others have said, this is NOT a deluxe accommodations tour. But what you miss in creature comforts you’ll make up in seeing and experiencing the parts of Alaska that you’ll never get on a big coach tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first AK experience and highly recommend Adventure Alaska Tours if you wish to explore the vastness of this beautiful state up close and personal! Each day, our experienced guide packed in an variety of amazing experiences from early am until evening. The wildlife and incredible nature we experienced far exceeded our expectations. Yes, you will "rough it" somewhat on this trip, but many friends who saw our Facebook posts commented that they had done an Alaskan cruise/tour but didn't see half of the things we saw! The only thing I would change is I would have selected the 9 day All Alaska Tour, rather than the 7 day tour, in order to lessen a couple of long driving days in the van. Still, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, made wonderful by our knowledgeable guide, Patrick, our fun tour group companions and the attentive and gracious tour group operators, Barb and Todd.

We had a fantastic trip in late July 2015 on the All Alaska tour. Our guide Patrick was extremely knowledgeable about the areas we visited, and showed us many amazing sights that were off the beaten path. Although there is a lot of driving time on this tour, Patrick kept it interesting by stopping regularly and always seemed to have some type of surprise awaiting us.

We also visited the mainstream sights in Denali and the Kenai Fjords area and were not disappointed with those either.

And although we didn't know any of the other people in our group of 10 prior to the trip, we had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with the other 8 over the course of the week.

Be advised this is not a luxury tour, but the accommodations were comfortable, if not a bit rustic at times. But traveling in this fashion allowed us to see Alaska much more unfiltered and realistic.

Did I mention we hiked onto a glacier? Nothing strenuous, but an exhilarating experience!

If you're willing to forgo a bit of comfort for some cozy time in a van with other travelers, you'll see parts of Alaska that most tourists miss out on.

This was a terrific tour. Our tour guide, Patrick, was helpful every step of the way and a delight to be with. I got to see a part of Alaska that few get to see - and it was magnificent.
Note that this is not a trip for those who want to be pampered or who want to stay in the large, crowded cruise hotels. This is a tour for those who want to explore the vastness, the natural beauty and the uniqueness of this undiscovered state.
