Amazing time! There were 5 of us and we caught our limit and then some! We could only keep 1 a person but the fishing was spectacular! We even caught a cod! Herm was a great captain and knew right were to go to catch the fish. We were well worn out from reeling in all the fish we caught and kept as well as threw back. They were well aware of the ship arrival and departure time and everything went smoothly. The meet up instructions are easy and Herm was there waiting to meet us! I would highly recommend using them versus booking through the ship as you support the local guy with no cut going to the cruise ship.

This was a privately booked excursion taken while on a week long Alaskan cruise with my wife. Went out on 18 July with three fellow cruise ship passengers and one solo traveler.
Had a great time fishing for halibut. I caught one, although not a giant, it made the whole outing totally worth it. Others caught fish as well. Saw some dolphins as a bonus. Would recommend!

Our cruise was diverted last minute to Icy Strait/Hoonah and we wanted to find a fun outing. We connected with Herm and arranged a halibut fishing trip. Herm was running two boats that day and we were placed with Josh. Josh was a lot of fun had a great sense of humor and made the trip a blast. He took us to a great spot in about 170 feet of water. Josh would beat our lines and we drop them down jig a few times and almost immediately we’d have a fish on the line which we had to drag back to the surface. There were four of us on the boat and everyone caught at least 10 to 12 fish. There weren’t a lot of huge keepers in the mix but we were certainly busy and had a great time. We also grabbed a couple of cod during the outing. On the way back to the port, Josh went out of his way to diverta so we could see humpback whales who were feeding. That was really cool to watch them surface bob their heads then go back underneath several times. Would definitely connect with them again if we were in the area.

We had a good time.. fantastic for the time we had to fish.. but mechanical problems (well the anchor) prevented us from having a perfect day. Our captain did the best he could but ended up having to keep the engine running and steer the boat while we tried to fish and only got to fish for about the last 30 minutes. Altogether, we got to fish for about 1 hour on a 3-hour trip due to the anchor. It kept getting stuck in the front gear and then when it was finally gerry rigged, it could not hold us in place. Make sure you ask for the vessel with the "large" anchor. (they have two vessels). The other boat had no problem and was able to stay in place .. catching over 20 fish.:). Also, be aware that you will probably choose to catch and release as it costs 35 dollars a pound to ship home halibut and the cruise ships will not allow you to take it aboard. I would totally recommend this to anyone that loves a fishing adventure.. I believe they may have had to replace the anchor after our experience.

Hello. We have upgraded all boats to seachoice 2000sss. Drum anchors. The captain was retrained. I'm sure it was easier to blame equipment.

We fished with Herm of Hooked Adventures on 7/25, on a diy cruise shore excursion while we were docked in Icy Strait Point. Herm is extremely conscientious, professional, on time and responsive. He is a wonderful fishing guide, who has a very nice touch with people who don't fish or fish very little. if you are looking to book a guide to fish or do other activities as he provides, Hooked Adventures should be your only choice if you are in Hoonah, AK

Great experience fishing with Herm and his doggie sidekick Brizzo. We had to reschedule twice due to cruise itinerary changes and Herm was understanding and responsive and went out of his way to make it work for us. Everyone on the boat caught (big!) multiple halibut, which we are having shipped to us to enjoy back in NJ. There was constant action on the boat. It was a nasty rainy day but the fishing was so exciting we didn’t even notice the weather. Wonderful overall experience and a highlight of our Alaska vacation.

In a nutshell Herm provided what you would call a perfect day in Hoonah. First off, boat, equipment, and service were 10 of 10. Next of course, was that he put us immediately on the fish, and schooled us all on the nuisances of catching Halibut. After a few misses we were all pulling them in as quick as we wanted. Meanwhile all around us were Porpoise, humpback whales and even a group of Orcas. The boat limited out, and we were back in time to meet our ship.
Also Herm has a great connection to get our dish packaged and shipped back home.
I have been on many fishing charters and I would say that this was one of best.
Thanks, Herm

We had a great day with josh as captain. All five of us on the boat had at least three fish up to about 25 pounds. We caught halibut, flounder, turbot, sculpin and a cod. Josh was funny, knowledgeable, and kind. The weather is beautiful and mild for September. The water was flat and the scenery was stunning.

We signed up for halibut fishing while cruising Alaska's inner passage. I wasn't disappointed. Everything went as expected except I didn't land a halibut while several others did. I did have the thrill of having one on the line for the first 100 ft! Dress warmly. There is a small cabin to break the wind while traveling. The captain was very competent and safety minded and the equipment was first rate including the boat.

Unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience. After booking the excursion, although we caught 6 halibut between the two of us, Herm kept throwing them back in even though they were within the legal limit. We only took home 2 halibut. Additionally, we had to pay the price of 3 even though there were just two of us to get him to honor the reservation (I know there is a minimum of 4 but we were informed the day of that no one else was coming and we were not allowed to rebook with a different charter without forfeiting the money). I would recommend fishing with a different charter. Nice guy, but just not worth it.

Hello. Your choice was to cancel as my minimum is stated as 4. You made the choice. I'm unsure of what you didn't understand. Minimum was 4, I met you halfway at 3. You could have booked with anyone you wanted. I would have refunded your trip that day. If fish are babies, I will always recommend cutting them loose, but ultimately its your choice. There has been numerous scenarios with multiple clients with parties of two. It's your choice. Go or cancel. Just saw this today 7/18/23. Hooked Adventures is on multiple media sites. I post all fish, big, small, medium, or none. A phone call or email works if any issues.

We are cruising on Royal Caribbean and will Dock in Icy Strait Pointe on Tuesday July 12. We'd be interested in Halibut fishing charter for 3 adult males if that is recommended this time of year.
Please let me know. Thank you.
