This trip couldn't have been better. From the moment the shuttle collected us, to the moment they dropped us off again, the staff were friendly and keen to share their knowledge of the area and history surrounding it.

Thanks to our eagle eyed guide, we were lucky enough to see a wild bear on a beach, before heading further out and finding a pod of very curious porpoises and a number of Humpback whales, including at least one with a calf.

This trip exceeded our expectations and made for an incredibly enjoyable and memorable day. We got great value for money and would highly recommend this as an activity to anyone who is visiting Hoonah/Icy Strait Point.

We had a wonderful time on the whale watching tour in Icy Strait Point/Hoonah. We booked directly with the Hoonah Travel instead of booking with the cruise line and this saved us a lot of $$. Communication from the tour company was good and the everyone was friendly and the driver of the boat that day shared great stories that made the experience extra enjoyable. We saw lots of whales and even heard them sing. My only wish is that the boat was a little bigger with a little more outdoor deck space for viewing.

Angie at Hoonah Travel Adventures is a testament to excellent customer service! As a team player for supporting Hoonah local economy and business she was able to accommodate 3 absent minded clients who made a terrible mistake and waited at the wrong pickup point for a scheduled tour. This was a non refundable tour if not cancelled within 24 hours. Angie instead ensured our time in Hoonah was spent exploring the island instead of wallowing in our foolish mistake by finding another tour guide from a different agency!! It is not often you find this type of selfless behavior in business and I will never forget what Angie did. I will not only laud Hoonah Travel Adventures for being such an ethical and community conscience business but acts such as these must be paid forward. I recommend Hoonah Travel Adventures because Angie is AWESOME!!!! Thank you for making our time in Hoonah memorable and fun despite our embarrassing folly.

My husband and I had a stop in Icy Pointe as part of our recent cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. I did not book a tour through Royal Caribbean as I thought the Wilderness Tour and Brown Bear Search through Hoonah Travel Adventures looked great as it seemed to be more personalized and was a bit cheaper than the ship, who tend to add on a huge surcharge for themselves. I was wrong on this one even after doing my research. I was not aware that this tour through Hoonah Adventures just takes you on a long dirt road in the woods near a river and just pulls over and sits on the side of the road until a bear comes out. The driver would turn the van off and wait for a long while to see if a bear would come near the river. We were also just driven around up and down the same dirt road... back and forth during this whole time and sat on the side of the road in the small van every time! It was just so strange and odd! The other factor was that we were driven around for three hours straight with no stopping. Our driver was very nice, but I had to ask her if we could get out of the van once we got to the side of the river to take some pictures and really just needed to stretch my legs. Other tour buses kept driving past us and we were told that those buses were going down to be close to the actual river and can walk on a scenic bear viewing platform. Our tour guide told us that she was not allowed to take us there as it is private property or something. I wish we took the one from the ship as we would have at least had a real tour that brought us to areas that we could have the potential to see bears. I also know that bear sightings are not guaranteed and that is totally fine, but this was so not worth the amount we paid and was really bizarre and strange!!

I booked this quite expensive trip much based on previous reviews and advertised image of whales sightings. Although we did see parts of a couple of whales, they were quite far away and, unless one is lucky enough for them to approach the boat, what one sees is very different from advertised. Most of the trip was made up of the interesting stories and local information by the guide who, although very knowledgeable, did not stop talking for 3 hours. Some balance with silence to enjoy the place would have been good. I would not do it again for the cost a d created expectation.

We are sorry the tour did not live up to your expectations and we are glad whales were seen. Yes, the Captain loves Hoonah and loves to share information.

This was a great whale watching experience. The boat is relatively small, we were only 18 people. Both sides had large windows which opened if you wanted to be inside and take pictures. The small boat was great if the whale came up on the opposite side you could quickly move to see it. We could also stand in the front or back if we wanted (it was cold though). The guide was very knowledgeable and experienced. She told us very interesting things about the area and a wonderful story. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend it.

We booked this whale watching tour on our own while on the cruise ship. Having done two similar tours in Juneau on prior trips to Alaska, Hoonah is a much better place for whale watching. There will be up to 60 boats out in Juneau at the same time. In Hoonah, there might be six max. The key to a good experience is being on a small boat with no more than ten or twenty people so you can quickly move to the whales as they're spotted. This tour is exactly that. We had 16 people while the other two near us had around 60. This tour is the way to do it. We say an epic number of whales over the course of a couple of hours. Hoonah is awesome for this tour.

Booked a bear sighting tour when Icy Point was substituted for town of Skagway on recent Alaska cruise with Princess. Icy Point is not a town; privately purchased land was developed with zip line and a few excursions, and limited shopping. Unfortunately, the bear excursion consists of a ride in a van through the forest on one road in and out. The chance of actually seeing a bear (much less more than one bear) is slim to none. The tour guide was very nice, but unlike all other excursions no water was provided nor was there any apology/regret that we did not see any bear. Take my advice and book the zip line ... it's more fun and actually worth the money.

I put a group of 50 people on this tour at different times on the day we were in port. They are quick to respond and have one of the best captains in the entire area for whale watching! I can't recommend highly enough!

We went Fishing with Capt Billy. The trip was good. The only reason I didn't give a five star, the Capt only put 4 poles out. It was me (A female) and 2 men and 2 young men, about 17 or 18. Everytime a fish would hit. The guys would run for the pole. My husband had to share his fishing pole with me, so I would have a chance to catch something. We all paid the same amount to get on the boat. Everyone else of course had their own pole and was able to fish several times, i pulled 1 up. Yes, I did say I didn't want to take anymore. Because I didn't want to take from my husband or the boys. I just feel like the captain should have put 5 poles out or on past fishing trips, our captain has call names out and we all knew our spots. I write this in hopes that this is corrected for future fishing trips. Especially if there are females involved.
