Rented 2 ATV’s while in port on our Alaskan Cruise. I had communicated with Joe prior via email but unfortunately he had not finalized our booking. It was a very busy day (lots of ships in port) but Joe worked with us since he realized he had not completed the booking and not only honored our reservation but gave us an additional 30 minutes. We were the last customers to return with our ATV’s and Joe also offered us a ride back to the ship instead of us waiting for the shuttle. High marks for both.
The ATV’s were fun to drive and Joe loads them with a GPS preset with stops, an emergency tracking device, and bear spray. Thankfully no need for the latter two. :-)
We actually did not encounter any wildlife in the Tongass Forest other than a couple of eagles, but still a very fun and scenic drive. It is also very peaceful and secluded; we hardly passed any other vehicles on our journey.
Doing the excursion through Joe’s company was so much more reasonably priced than the cruise ship sponsored ATV ride; we would have easily paid double through them for less time. Highly recommend and great to support a local business owner.

Our family of 3 (2 x adults and 6year old) had the absolute best time hiring an ATV from Joe, would thoroughly recommend doing the same when in Hoonah. We arrived via cruise to Icy Strait Point, if you do the same be sure to hop on the free Gondola and then take the $5 return shuttle to Hoonah, you will see Joe’s ATV’s opposite the shuttle drop off, so easy and so much better then a cruise ship organised tour.

We had the absolute best time exploring Hoonah on old logging roads, we even saw a bear cross right in front of the ATV, an absolute highlight!

Thank you Joe, we had the best day.

The whole experience was very easy to follow and provided great views. The price was very fair compared to other excursion options. The staff was very friendly, and explained everything thoroughly. The gps was accurate and the ATV ran very well with no problems. The only reason it is not five stars is because there were additional fees that were not explained in the receipt. It was almost as much as one hour of extra time. For the time we rode it was still a better price than other excursions, but would have liked to see what those additional fees included to justify it. It was very cool to be out there feeling the Alaskan air and nature rather than in a car with a bigger group of people. Would recommend!

Awesome place, very helpful staff! This was a great alternative to a cruise ship excursion. The people on our cruise who paid for a bear excursion, were not able to see a bear. However, with the help of Joe and his GPS tracker, we were able to see a bear and its natural habitat. He knew exactly where the best chances were for us to be able to view this, and we were able to have some independence to explore whatever we wanted. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. We booked an ATV for 2.5 hours and had a blast. We saw sights and scenery that will last a lifetime. We actually saw a bald eagle swoop down to the water, grab a fish and land on a large rock in front of us only to be immediately chased off by a momma bear. Her small cub then came out of the forest, climbed up on the rock and ate the fish. Most people live a lifetime without seeing something like this. We were fortunate enough to experience it and capture it on camera. Joe, thanks for everything. We will highly recommend you to everyone we know. Also, give that beautiful dog of yours a good scratch behind the ears.

What a remarkable vignette! I'm not gonna lie, I've lived here for over 15 years and scenes like that are a rarity. Thank you so so SO much for sharing your little scene of paradise on here, I greatly appreciate it. And will do! The dogs say hi!

Hoonah ATV Tours was extremely kind and flexible with our party of 9 when we needed to cancel our tour at the last minute when our cruise had to miss our port day at icy strait due to a medical emergency. Joe promptly gave us a full refund of our prepayment. It was a big relief and we so appreciate their professionalism.

John, thank you so much for leaving a review despite having missed coming to Hoonah. That sincerely means a great deal. I will never forget last year, ramping up to peak season, June 29 you guys were coming in on the Quantum, things were going to be hectic. You and I had spoken back and forth and I was looking forward to getting you guys on an awesome trip and was so bummed that the universe had different plans. If you wind up returning, don't hesitate to let me know, I'd love to work something out. Thank you again, and take care!

This was a highlight of our Alaska vacation. Joe was extremely friendly and it was obvious he wanted us to have a fun and unique experience by highlighting some great places to visit. The ATV was in great condition and he provided GPS coordinates to make getting around easy. This was a great way to get away from the crowds and experience Hoonah on our own. Would recommend this to anyone.

We had a great time even in the rain. The owner called and offered to let us cancel since the weather was so bad at the last minute but we carried on as it was our only chance. We had rented a 2 seater and a 4 seater and they upgraded us to two 4 seaters since the wipers were better on the 4 seater. Had great directions and gps to some beautiful spots. Would recommend for anyone.

Amazing experience. It was a special treat for husband birthday gift we enjoy to the max we check in and the staff very informed about safety give us idea where to go and time frame that take to get to different area. Lol we did not find bears we saw eagles, spot one deer. It was a rainy and cold day. Recommend this 100 if you are adventurous. Everything is close but you need to go 20-25 miles per hour it makes it long the time. Thank you for a

We took out an ATV for 2 hours while our cruise ship was docked in Icy Point Strait, not far from Hoonah. Given all the necessary instructions about safety and what to do if we had a problem. Given Bear Spray as well, luckily not needed!! Given a GPS with a programmed route, which was needed. We had great fun in the vehicle, stopping at scenic points along the way. We did see three bears in front of us, one huge one. They just disappeared silently into the woods as we approached. Great experience, slightly expensive but what the heck, we may never be back in Alaska again. Also thanks for lift back to cruise terminal as we were a little tight on time.
