Captain Billy was AMAZING! He knew right where to take us to see whales. At one point, two whales swam right by the boat on the right side, while another whale was jumping on the left side! It was incredible. We spent all afternoon watching the wales play and feed together.
Captain Billy also took us to see bears on the shoreline (watching from the boat). So fun! The boat was clean and had all the accommodations we needed. Captain Billy was able to answer all of our questions and told us stories about the history of the native tribe as well as the island and
town. Over all, it was a 5 star experience. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this!!

Went out twice with Billy on the Silver Spoon. 1st Day Whale watching was a dream come true! He knew right where the whales were and waited patiently with us as we screamed in delight! What a fantastic sight, I got used to listening for the spouting and would quickly turn to see multiple humpback whales. Saw a good share of porpoises and sea lions also. 2nd Day was Halibut fishing. It was my first experience, and it was a blast! Several of us fished, we all reeled in halibut, my daughter caught the big one, 70lbs! Billy was a great teacher and quick to rebait when needed. He also told great stories about the area and pointed out bears on the shore. I highly recommend Wooshkeetaan Tours!!

We highly recommend booking your fishing trip with Captain Billy. We realized the evening before our excursion that our ship was not docking in time to meet our scheduled departure time. Captain Billy quickly agreed to work with us and waited almost two hours for us to arrive. Not only did he successfully find a good fishing spot on the first try, but he was also diligent in pointing out other wildlife on the coast and nearby in the water. In fact, we saw our only bear not in captivity while in the boat with Captain Billy. The overall experience with Captain Billy (and his first mate/daughter) was THE single best part of our two-week visit to Alaska.

Our trip with Captain Billy was great. We left the marina on a near perfect morning, but with it being Alaska the wind quickly shifted which caused for not great fishing conditions. Captain Billy quickly moved us to another location, protected by mountains where we were able to finish our fishing and catch some Halibut. Would recommend fishing with him weather in town or stopping on Cruise ship.

Coming from the UK on an Alaskan cruise for my 60th birthday and being a keen fisherman I was excited at the prospect of chasing the pacific salmon and halibut on a charter. The cruise company had cancelled my excursion to do just that in February so when I found this company could offer exactly what I wanted on the visit to Icy Strait, along with the glowing reviews I went ahead and booked, even though it was nearly a $100 more than the cruise line excursion. A couple of days before I called them to clarify where I was to be picked up and all seemed set. On the day I waited and a driver arrived to tell me that as I was the only booking, the trip was cancelled and that they had tried to call me. In fairness I was on a cruise ship on a UK mobile number but I didn’t get a call. Anyway they offered me a boat trip to look at whales which made me think was that what they were using the boat for that day ? Don’t know, anyway all my fellow travelers on the cruise had booked other activities so all I could do was trudge sadly back to the ship on my own and look at the water imagining what lay beneath. I’m aware they had a minimum number but turning down more than $300 for a couple of hours seems odd. I’d have been happy with just an hour or so to cast a line. Interestingly I tried again at a couple of companies in Ketchikan the following day and it was the same story, not enough bookings for fishing to make it worth their while. So it appears if you want to go fishing in Alaska, forget it

I'm sorry we had to cancel your fishing tour. Due to the price of fuel is the reason we have a minimum number of people to go out. I did my best to get you on another boat but no one else was going out either. I'm sorry you didn't get to do any fishing. I myself would have rather been out fishing too Captain Billy

Captain Bill is awesome! We have done numerous fishing charters all over the world and this was my favorite. He’s a great captain and we caught our limit on halibut. He also made sure to take his time showing us various mountains and wildlife. we saw killer whales, otters, sea lions, a bear on the beach and a whole pod of orcas. The day was just perfect.

Bill is now coordinating shipping our fish home. Many charters are catch and release only but it was important to us to keep our fish and he made sure it was handled. Five stars all around!

We had an amazing adventure out on beautiful calm, clear and sunny Icy Strait with Captain Billy! Fishing, breaching whales, sea otters and porpoise sliding through the water right next to our boat. He took us close to shore so we could watch a huge, meandering brown bear. We had a fantastic time and would do it again in a heart beat when we are in Hoonah again. Highly recommend Captain Billy and his boating adventures on the Silver Spoon!

Everything was great till we caught a ‘huge halibut was told there was a regulation and it had to be thrown back . Three disappointed fishermen at airport seeing all the boxes of fish. Icy Strait has fish size regulations . I would have picked Seward to fish if I had known this. Please make sure to ask if there are any fish size regulations before your book . Website did not mention regulation size

Captain Billy took us out for the afternoon. We had 4 people fishing. We caught 2 halibut and 2 cod (trash). He was very helpful and nice. Obviously would have liked to have caught more fish.

What more can you say about Captain Bill and his first mate Taylour? They go above and beyond, out of their way to make you have the best time. The Halibut sure cooperated and we caught 16 between Jenna and I. Her largest was 36” and my largest was just shy of 40”! Captain Bill and Taylour shared stories of their lives on the island and their ancestors! So cool. The fishing was more than outstanding, but then Captain Bill asked if we would like to see a bunch of whales nearby, and that was an amazing sight of these glorious beasts, in their backyard. Such a great addition! On the ride back, he also was in search for reported coastal brown bears, that had been spotted nearby, but they dashed into the thick green. Thank you both for a most memorable experience. Can’t wait to book again on our next Alaskan cruise
