July 6th - Drove down from Anchorage with my 14 year old son, who wanted a Halibut fishing experience to tell his friends in Coeur d’Alene Idaho. Homer Ocean Charters did not disappoint. 8 customers on the boat, and Capt Nick and deckhand Joe had everyone limit out (2 halibut each). We hit two spots and experienced a trip we will remember for life. We each caught a butt over 40”, and Homer Ocean take care of everything but reeling it in.

It was an overcast day, but the boat had a heater to stay warm on the voyage out and restroom is clean, (for a boat). The boat is a short walk from the office, parking was easy (and free). Boat is very clean and tackle in good shape.

Seating is ideal for 8 people, can seat 9, but more than that and it will be tight if everyone wants to be inside. Pack a lunch, bring drinks, bring gloves if it is cold out, and a waterproof jacket.

They fillet the fish for you and handle getting the fish to Homer Fish Processing.

Thanks Capt Nick and Joe

Our first full day in Homer we went on a Sea Kayaking excursion. Joel greeted us down at the docks and transported us across the bay - making sure to slow down point out a sea otter that was floating near us. His wife, Richelle, was waiting for us and got us all set up with kayaks, splash skirts (or kilts as much Scottish husband preferred to call them) and life jackets. She was our guide for the day and was fantastic at ensuring our safety all the while showing us an abundance of wild life and sea creatures. We highly recommend this company and in particular this day of kayaking . A great way to start our week in Homer !

Homer oceans

We just finished a trip with Homer Oceans charters in and for all 6 of us, it was an amazing long story! We scheduled a trip for 2020 and covid shut us down, so we had to cancel. So we went another year waiting and hoping we could make it, Ocean charters we’re very helpful to carry over our reservations. Come January, I got with Tim and his daughter Tia who went completely went out of their way to fulfill out trip. We had a lot of concerns and they let us know all was fine. The only thing they added was a plane ride out to the boat, a couple of the guys were concerned but it turned out to be one of the best add ons to the trip! The pilot flew us on a gorgeous flight through the mountains for about 45 mins and then landed in a cove and we loaded on our boat, by 9 and was fishing immediately. We spent 4 days fishing from the boat, we limited on kings, halibut, rock fish and some silvers. The captain and his son took care of us and we ate great, breakfasts, and lunches were perfect but when it came to dinner, it was at a delicious level, the captain can whip up a outstanding meal. I highly recommend the multi day fishing from the boat, it is a true Alaskan experience. I can’t say anything better than how Homer Ocean Charters took care of us and gave us a chance to enjoy fishing and our group to bring back memories of our service since we hadn’t been together for years, it was perfect. I will say the stories got crazy. Thank you Homer Ocean charters, Capt. Roark and Ashton!

Do what you say you will do, 18 people on the boat was to many and we were rushed to catch our limit! It was more like an assembly line than a fishing trip, we kept rotating around the back of the boat so everyone had to keep moving around even if your line was already down. To meet their quota we just went to a spot I call their chicken hole with maybe 15 to 20 pounders, they didn't even try to catch any descent size fish. We paid over $250 and didn't even come away with 25lbs of fish for 3 people, we paid for an all day trip and we were done fishing before noon!! The 2 girl (sisters) were the ONLY thing good about the trip they were Great. I have used Homer Ocean Charters in the past but I don't think I would use them again, I understand you can't always catch big fish but they didn't even try this time and I am very disappointed!! We had Capt. Max and his daughters for deck hands, they again were Great and the office staff was really nice and helpful. But we just didn't get what we paid for!

We selected Homer Ocean Charters because their website stated they handled all levels of experience, and we had no experience whatsoever. It was a quality experience from the get go. Captain Nick and Joe where attentive and helpful from beginning to end. Their goal was to ensure everyone caught their limit and had a great time doing it.
The first spot they took us to was large halibut only. We couldn't catch anything 26 inches or less. I tossed back a decent sized halibut in the hopes of getting a bigger one and wasn't disappointed. I caught one just under 80 lbs and my daughter caught a 55 lb one. My wife added another decent sized fish and we then headed to a spot where we could all possibly catch ones under 26 inches. We caught 2 of our allowed 3 and headed back in. When all 5 of our halibut were processed we had around 100 lbs of halibut filet!
I highly recommend Homer Ocean Charters to both experienced and non-experienced. They will not disappoint you.

This is the 2nd time using this company. During both trips, the staff and crew have been professional and very accommodating. Due to COVID, we had to alter our reservation multiple times. They were prompt and thorough for each change. For this particular outing, Captain Travis took us us to the land flowing with milk and King salmon. Under his expert tutelage, our band of strangers came together as a fish slaying team. Not only did we land multiple large Kings, we easily hit the halibut limit. The extra rockfish were a pleasant bonus!

I have recommended the company to others and they have all reported similar, if not better experiences. Can’t go wrong with Homer Ocean Charters.

From the time I signed up to go out until we returned to shore, it was great. Very welcoming personnel the entire time. Met the Captain at 0730, on the boat at 0800, back off the boat around 1400, began reeling in halibut as soon as the sinkers hit bottom. We had (and met) 11 great people fishing and about 3 people that were not fishing (family members who were not fishing, just for the ride) on our boat from Wisconsin, Colorado, and California (could not have had nicer people). The crew was extremely efficient and handled all situations like true professionals. They had to deal with people that have never fished and worked extremely well with the young children. All had our limit and they were filleted during the ride back to shore. As a bonus we got to see Orca's twice and many otters.

My boyfriend and I went on a halibut charter on the Bay Explorer with Captain Max and his deckhands Debbie and Alaina and had an AMAZING time. Everyone on the charter met their two halibut per day limit and we even caught some cod to take home. The captain and deckhands were very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. The only downside of the charter was I didn't realize there would be 15 other people with us. However, the crew was very experienced with this size of a group and there was plenty of room for everyone in the boat and fishing in the water. Also, be prepared that the fish processing is expensive in Homer for any fishing charter.

We also took a water taxi to go hiking at Kachemak Bay State Park. We started on the saddle trail which eventually led to the Grewingk Glacier Lake Trail. The trail was very well maintained and the lake was beautiful. We explored the trails for about three hours in between the water taxi drop off and pick up. The water taxi driver was very knowledgeable about the surroundings and pointed out landmarks to us. He even brought us around some sea otters with babies which was a really cool sight. Overall Homer Ocean Charters provided us with amazing experiences and I would book with them again in a heartbeat.

Captain Nick and his deckhands Zoe And Brad were absolutely phenomenal. We have been booking trips to Homer for six years in a row now, and our trip this year with Captain Nick was the best ever. We limited on Kings, Silvers, and BARN door Halibut! The Nick and deckhand team was kind, courteous, friendly, and attentive. They made sure that everybody on the boat got their limits, even if there was only one on the boat that needed one last fish, they would take as many runs as it took to make it happen. I would love to book with Capt Nick again. In addition, We book every year through Tim, and he is super helpful and friendly. We will be back. Thanks again. The Nygren family.

My day of fishing on the Diamond Cape was outstanding. Captain Clay and Henry were professional, friendly, informative and enthusiastic. In short, they made a great day of fishing even better. If you put on the right music Captain Clay may even break out a few dance moves.
We were fortunate to limit out on halibut, close to limiting out on rockfish, caught a couple of king salmon and enough cod to feed a small army.
I highly recommend Homer Ocean Charters and look forward to fishing with them again if we are back in Homer.
