Book your cabin with Rick and Dorla right now, and book more nights than you think you'll need. We stayed two nights in August 2019, and we should have stayed a week. Rick and Dorla very naturally brought us into their world -- pointing out creatures and landscape as just part of the surroundings, not forced, not teacherly. They are genuinely fascinated by the creatures of the air, land, and sea, and they were happy to share it with us along the way, whether just sitting and looking out over the water, or during the day of kayaking to poke around tidal zones, or exploring lagoons and coastlines. They also left us alone to explore and discover on our own, never overbearing, but always helpful. The tidal differences were breath-taking. The cabin was a little rustic -- their website was very accurate: separate water (which they ship in!) for drinking/cooking, and for washing. We cooked all our own meals with ease, the beds were comfortable, the views great. And a note about the outhouse: I have used many outhouses throughout my life, and this was the cleanest, most comfortable, and practically odorless (yes!) outhouse I've ever experienced. And yeah, we could get a mobile signal if we really wanted one, but we didn't need it. Customer service is great -- when I made mistakes during booking, Dorla immediately fixed and refunded my overpayment (a day or two later -- after all, they're busy with other visitors). When I got confused about booking the water taxi, Dorla took care of it so we could focus on a day of hiking instead. Turn off your phone, watch the water of the bay, book a day of kayaking and exploring the tidal zone. We miss them terribly, and hope to come again soon.

What a way to start our visit to the Kenai. Rick's enthusiasm for what he was doing, even at the end of a long season, was truly genuine. He and Dorla made us feel like old friends from the moment we got there. We brought our 2 adult sons to see something of Alaska, and we couldn't have chosen a better beginning to the trip. Lunch was fantastic. Now we have to find a source of kelp in the lower 48 to add to our soups.

We had a great time with Rick and Dorla. They were very thorough teaching our beginner kayakers how to manipulate the boats. We learned a lot about the sea creatures around the islands we navigated and saw multiple sea otters and bald eagles. The lunch stop was delightful. We really enjoyed foraging for greens to add to the salmon chowder. The fresh home baked bread tasted great. Additionally, the company was understanding and worked with one of our travelers who had to cancel shortly before the trip. Thanks for a great experience!

Rick and his wife were wonderful guides for this mellow scenic wildlife viewing experience. We saw seals, sea otters and many birds including bald eagles. The salmon chowder they made for lunch using local wild greens was amazing.
