We were able to snag a last minute 3/4 day Halibut charter on North Country Charters (on our last day- the day we flew home from Anchorage at 9:55 pm the same night!). My husband and I caught two (relatively small) halibut and had them packed and shipped (by Cole Processing) on the last day- the charter was on a Saturday- we received our Halibut on Tuesday. The boat captain (and crew) were very helpful, fun and encouraging. Their goal was to let everyone have a positive experience. We say a smoking volcano and breaching Humpback Whales. It was amazing and magical. They made sure we practiced responsible COVID protocol (masks while inside). Overall, an awesome experience!

I've used North Country Charters for two years in a row, and will schedule another trip next year. You can get a Halibut only charter, but I highly recommend the Halibut/Salmon Combo Trip. It's well worth the extra money, and probably adds an extra 10-20lbs of fish to your "take home" haul. Captain Brian Ritchie is a great Captain/Guide who knows where to catch fish and will not disappoint. He and "Ally" (the other half of his team) are non-stop machines when it comes to making sure you have a great fishing experience. If for some reason I couldn't book a charter with this team I probably wouldn't hesitate to go out with any of the Crews from North Country Charter. The company has been very reasonable to work with and Gerri Martin (behind the counter, at the office) really went out of her way last year, when weather cancelled our Charter (everyone bows to Alaska weather)... she notified me of an availability on another Charter a day or two later, and we were fishing! This year was amazing, the water was smooth, the fish were hungry, the crew was ready... my son and I brought home 60lbs of processed Halibut and Salmon. A great team!!

We are so happy to hear of your positive experience with North Country Charters throughout the entire booking process. Brian and Ally certainly work hard for their anglers! We hope to see you again next year.

We booked a 3/4 day halibut fishing trip as a part of a family vacation (party of 8) on the Irish with captain JR. We were blessed with beautiful weather and a calm day on the water. The first part of our day we were struggling to catch much except kelp, so our captain relocated us to a new spot and we started reeling them in almost as fast as we could cast out. Everyone in our party was able to catch their limit of 2/day and we had a grand time. Billy, who served us on the deck, was quick on his feet and kept us well stocked on fresh bait and we were able to maximize our time with the lines in the water. He was an excellent instructor for those of us who were new to the halibut fishing experience and ensured that we were always well taken care of. Thankful to North Country Charters for a freezer full of fish and a memorable day!

We had a fantastic experience with North Country Charters. I picked them for a full day halibut trip primarily because of their positive reviews. When I called and spoke with Kathy, she was super helpful giving me the full picture of what they offer, the boats and Captains they work with.. etc. I was on the fence, checking other charters and she was very patient, professional and extremely helpful. She told me she would call me back if the boat I was looking at begun to fill up, which she did.

The day before our scheduled trip, I get a call from the nice front desk person (Emmy, I believe) telling me that the boat we were booked on lost a motor that morning and they were going to try hard to get us on another boat. They took great care to ask whether we were flexible with dates, length of trip, species we wanted to fish for... etc. Our situation was pretty tight, we only had that day to fish and unfortunately were not very flexible. By the end of the day, I got a phone and email confirmation that they found a boat with two open seats and we were good to go. We actually met and spoke to Captain Jordan Cox from the Bait Ball the night before and he told us catching was slow and the weather for the next day was predicted to be rough. He said we would make a morning-of go/no go decision. We showed up at 0700 and he cautiously explained the potential and allowed us to help make the decision. We decided to go. After a 1:30 minute very bumpy ride out to his spot, we started fishing and within 2 hours the seas calmed, the sun came out and we limited on halibut. We released 4-5 fish before keeping our last one which was 58#. Jordan was a great Captain, very personable, safe and was interested in us catching fish. After the quick halibut limits, we went to a few spots for rockfish and we all ended up getting a bunch of rock fish, kelp greenling and I had to release two really nice lings which were just under size.

I cant say enough about the professionalism of North Country Charters in accommodating us and for Captain Jordan Cox and the Bait Ball for getting us into fish!

We booked a 6 pack for a 3 species fishing charter, Halibut, Lingcod/Rock fish, and Salmon. We had an awesome day with each of us catching several fish of each species, and as a bonus we were able to limit out on Salmon while we were anchored and catching Halibut. While it's a long day on the water, it is well worth the time to catch nice fish. Highly recommend North Country Charters for all of your fishing needs when you are in Homer, AK. This was my 3rd charter with them and they were all great!

I wrote this review in 2019: We've been fishing with North Country Charters for years. I highly recommend them. They're professional, knowledgeable, and always go the extra mile to make sure you have a good experience.

My family came back to Homer in July 2021 and went out with North Country again. We don't regret it. We fished for two days. Our filleted catch weighed a total of 472 pounds! Captain Wes was excellent and very attentive to our needs. He asked us first about our priority: trophy fish or catching our limit or trying for both. Our largest catch was around 60 pounds and several not far behind it. We limited out on Halibut and also had several rockfish, cod, and salmon. On our second day, he stopped at an ice cream shop in Seldovia on the way back. At one point, we were surrounded by humpback whales for maybe an hour - some as close as 30 feet from the boat. It was incredible. The deckhands were excellent! My children (grown) said Captain Wes was the surprise of the day. One other reviewer mentioned he learned everyone's name and called us by name throughout the day. He made sure we understood everything and went the extra mile to explain things and give the history of other things. He cut the otoliths out of the rockfish (small bones in fish that give equilibrium and tell the age of the fish), explained them, told us how he made earrings with them and gave them to us.
Next time we come, we'll use North Country again and ask for Captain Wes!

Just completed 2 days of halibut fishing; one with Captain Jay and one with Captain Ben. We had 2 fabulous days catching our limit on halibut (fish ranging from 30-125lbs) and caught some bonus fish. These guys truly know their fishing! We would recommend these Captains and North Country Charters highly!

Had an excellent experience doing both the Ultimate Multi-species combo day and the 3/4 day halibut charters in late June! Both Captain's Doug and Wesley worked hard to give us the best experiences possible.

We caught our limit of Rockfish and Halibut pretty quickly during the multi-species day, and even managed to snag a gray cod and king salmon as well. The captain did a great job making sure everyone on board got a chance to catch fish and enjoy themselves.

During the 3/4 day halibut fishing we got to take it a little slower, we got to stop and see multiple humpback whales breach and jump on the way out, as well as tons of sea otters. Having 15+ lines in the water at once led to a few snagged lines throughout the day but the crew did an amazing job of untangling lines, baiting hooks and directing people to maximize your time fishing and ensure you caught fish. Everyone on board caught more than 2 halibut each and were directed which to keep and which to let go. Once again we caught a limit of halibut, bringing in 4-8 each. The large boat was very comfortable for people that are prone to seasickness. Had a blast and still made it back to the dock by 2pm.

They made processing and picking up our fish very easy with the local Homer Fish Processing, located just off the spit. We got everything cut, vacuum packed, frozen and boxed for a reasonable fee and in a timely manner, everything was ready for pickup the next morning.

Will be recommending to anyone looking to fish in Homer and will be coming back next time were in town!

We had a truly epic day on the water with North Country Charters. Our boat and Capt, as well as our fishing gear were really great! We caught fish until our arms were numb. I brought a couple friends with me and they were also very impressed because of how often strikes would occur before the bait even hit bottom.

I have been on charters for years and this last trip may well have been the best ever. Capt Clay did a fantastic job and really knows his business!

What a great day of fishing!

Captain Brian and deckhand Ali were the best. We had two children on the boat both are 7 years old. Brian and Ali gladly answered all the questions they had without hesitation. Seeing how they interacted with the kids made the experience phenomenal. Being able to limit our was the bonus.
