We visited Haines as part of our tour and after hearing “there were bears here yesterday” more than we cared to we finally spotted her. All 500kgs of brown bear just popped into the weir for a salmon snack. We first viewed her through a telescope with a camera attached. Then we managed a closer look with the naked eye and took amazing pictures of the bear eating salmon. What an amazing sight. Our Bri. Aunt bus driver and guide were so accommodating and made sure we were safe at all times too.

Took a nice ferry ride over to Haines and saw lovely scenery before the actual tour even started. Our bus driver Pam and tour guide Kevin were the best! We saw eagles everywhere and they had telescopes that we could all use to see things up close. A bear was spotted near the salmon weir so we all headed over to that and watched a bear catch and eat salmon for about 20 minutes. It was incredible!! After the tour of the park we headed back to Haines and had a nice boxed lunch from a local cafe. Kevin sat with us and told us about his life as a Park Ranger and why he loves Haines Alaska so much. It was a GREAT day!!

Driver Pam and Guide Kevin were great. They worked hard to ensure we saw brown bear in the river scooping salmon out. They provided binoculars as well as scopes they set up at numerous different spots. Also saw eagles, sea lions, numerous birds. Very educational, like I was back in 9th grade earth science yet this time I enjoyed it. 😂. Fun quick tour through town and ended with a brown back lunch.

We spent two days watching the eagles eating salmon spawning in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. It was amazing to see hundreds of eagles within 2-3 miles along the river. Our guide Rustin Gooden was great. We noticed others along the shoreline were listening to him and asking questions. My husband has already said he'd like to do it again. This experience should be on everyone's bucket list.
