Stayed at Alyeska hotel. Excellent scenic hotel. 5 stars.
Restaurants in the area were all very busy. You must wait hours if you want to eat well. I ended up getting dinners from CARRS/SAFEWAY supermarkets. I give dinning in the area a 1 star. They are lacking seasonal staffs from the lower states.
I did not do much in the area; I want to do biking but lack of time. I primarily use the nice hotel as a base to recover from the busy travel. It was a success. I relaxed in the hotel indoor swimming pool... nice. I had my dinner outside the hotel. It was so so so scenic. There is a nice pool just outside the hotel. I saw a kid doing the SUP board there. It only happens in Alaska!
The mountain top was still closing so I did not take the tram to go up. It was not worth the high price ticket to check out the tram and the mountain but I think it would be a nice activity if the restaurant is open (free tram ride with restaurant reservation) and clear weather (see the valley).
With all the conditions meet, it has potential to be a 5 star attraction.

The tram is fun and the views good, but it’s expensive for a 4.5 minute ride. It’s a one and done for me. One of the ticket options is pay $12 for $20 worth of food in the deli. The $8 savings are not worth it. Restaurant was disorganized and they were obviously training first day people during the busiest time of day. And the food was very mediocre.

The views from the top of the mountain are beautiful. The food is pretty good (think cafe type of food). The only thing is that I would recommend budgeting for more time than you think. The tram only runs every 15 minutes, and the food takes a long time to come out of the kitchen (even sandwiches / fries). We ended up staying for half an hour longer than we planned just because the tram had just left when we arrived and we had to wait for our food. But, the views are definitely worth it. I would consider buying the ticket that includes a voucher for the restaurant if you are in a time crunch (we originally planned to eat somewhere else but realized we would not have time to).

We stayed at the resort at the bottom. Somehow, I was under the impression that we get to see the view from the hotel, but not. The hotel gave us free tickets to the tram, so we took it to the top and had lunch. It was rainy day but the view was still nice up and above. The price of the tram is high, but I was told if you make reservation at the restaurant above, you can ride it free.

The tram offered amazing views and great service, however it was a short tram ride experience. You can go up once, have lunch, go back down in less than an hour. The ride itself is maybe 5 minutes each way. For $50 you can get the ride up and back and lunch ($20 voucher)., otherwise it’s $38 for the ride up and back. The $20 voucher completely covered my French dip, fries, and fountain drink with free refills.
The staff is all friendly and the bistro at the top had great food and service, which at how cold the area was where you order and pick up the food was impressive to me that the girls were that friendly and smiling! The tram operator had a lot of knowledge of the area and how the car handled at certain points along the way so you are in safe hands.

First let me be clear, the scenery and the view from the tram IS amazing... but, and this is a a big but, the views are amazing from everywhere and the tram is EXPENSIVE. My first thought was that was pretty, but I'd rather have my money back and have spent my time driving and hiking to enjoy the view. I was also not impressed with the customer service at the ticket booth or the tram, the best way to describe the attitude was bored. Overall I'd skip this and save my money for other tours. One note, and I can't say if it's worth it or not, but I did hear when the 7 Glaciers restaurant is open you can ride the tram up free with reservations... That might be be interesting! Looks to open mid June.

My husband and I went to Alaska for our honeymoon. By the suggestion of friends and family, we went on the aerial tram because we were told it "absolutely can't be missed!"
Eh.
The view was beautiful since we went up on a clear, sunny day. We could easily see the Turnagain Arm, snow, glaciers, and so on. I wouldn't say it's the most spectacular view, but it is rewarding and especially since it is effortless to access.
The problem was the severe lack of communication by staff. First, we took the tram ride in the afternoon thinking we could use the summit as a launch point for several hikes. However, it turns out all of the hikes up there are closed. Our hike was instead spent on going down the mountain instead, which was rather boring and without much to see, although we did at least see a porcupine.
Much more importantly, the staff did not tell anyone there would be a wedding ceremony going on! The wedding ceremony site is right by the museum (which has a wraparound porch), so literally EVERYONE could see the wedding. There was no privacy at all. The crowd control consisted of staff telling all of us to stand still and in silence until the wedding was over. With where I was situated, I totally would've photobombed the ceremony had I moved!! We complied out of respect to the couple, but... seriously? That issue could've been prevented had the tram operator told us to wait before going up.

We lucked out with good weather in Girdwood so did the trip on the tram. It's a bit expensive but the views are lovely. The tram is a large gondola that holds about 40 people. Masks are required at this time. The tram officially closes at 8:30 PM but continued to run to take the people who dined at the restaurant down after their dinner. There are hikes at the top.

This was a beautiful tram ride to the top of the mountain. Parking is super easy and on site. Location is not very handicapped accessible as there are several stairs to reach the gondola car. There might be an elevator so call them to see if there is if you need one. There is a guide that rides up and down with you, you can ask them any questions you might have. Once at the top you can walk around, shop and eat. I recommend getting the lift ticket with the good voucher. Inside gondola car there are two bench seats at the head and foot of car, otherwise you hold on to ropes suspended from the top. Once at the top the view is wonderful.

Very nice resort in the middle of the forest. I had to park in the Extra Parking lot down a dark-ish path, not so near the entrance to the hotel.
I paid extra for a mountain view room, They put me on the 4th floor which has a view but obstructed by part of the building.
I wish I'd asked for a higher room. Maybe they were all taken when I booked 7 months earlier!? They charge $ 38 per person to go on a ski lift from the Hotel up to their restaurant. Beautiful trail starts just behind the hotel. Winner Creek Trail. You can also hike the Northface Trail; 2 miles (2100 feet in altitude) up to the restaurant, save $76?

Plan on snow boarding the 19- of April. Would it be ideal and even worth it?
Written April 13, 2018
As a previous reviewer noted, the Sun really softens up the slopes for most of the 11am to 6 pm session. Check out the mountain webcam(s) before you come. You can see the conditions of some of the hot spots, so to speak. If you see the upper bowl looking good, go and have a blast !

Hi there, I plan to come on February 6-7, but I will be based in Anchorage. I am not from Alaska and wanted to know if there is any public service from the city to the resort? Or are taxis and rented cars my only options?
Written December 31, 2014
Right, the train is a nice ride. The winter schedule is limited, so check the Alaska railroad website to see if you can synchronize departure times. It's not super cheap, but neither are your other options...other than hitchhiking!

I asked this question when there in August and was told no. Call Alyeska Resort to see if they have a shuttle you can take. If you can rent a car (I think you have to be 26), it is worth it. A world like no other unfolds once you leave S. Anchorage.
