About Child’s Glacier Tours by The Riverside Inn
We would like to invite you to experience traveling to Childs Glacier as you never have before. The road has washed away at the 36 mile bridge so the glacier is no longer accessible by road. We would like to offer you the opportunity to visit the glacier via an airboat and then a 15 passenger van.

OMG!! If you don’t do anything else when you go to Cordova AK, do this excursion to Child’s Glacier. Read the history and take the all-day trip with Jackson’s Cherrie...it’s worth every penny! They are professional, knowledgeable and wonderful hosts. Dress warm and dry and prepare for a day of spectacular Alaskan adventure. Highly recommended for anyone willing to travel past the end of the pavement and see some of Alaska history.

This is THE way to see Childs Glacier! For starters, despite what you may read elsewhere, the bridge to Childs Glacier is washed out. So, if you want to go to the viewing spots for this glacier, Jack and Cherrie's airboat is the way to go. Literally. They will pick you at the designated spot, ferry you across the river (about 5 minutes) on their airboat, then load you in their van for the short drive down to the (almost) abandoned park station. They are lovely hosts and do a tremendous job of keeping the areas maintained so when you get to the viewing station and pavilion, all the facilities are fresh and clean and ready for a picnic and hot chocolate. We did have a bear waiting for us as we drove up (!), but he was quick to make his departure which just added to the fun. We got really lucky and did get to see the glacier calving so it does happen, especially with higher water levels. We also saw a seal playing in the Copper River and icebergs floating down. Jack led us up the path to the top of the hill (easy hike) so we could get a better view of the glacier and bridge. And all of this with just our small group - no other people in sight. This was one of our favorite days in Alaska. Worth every penny!

Jack provided shuttle service for our vehicle from the ferry to our take out on the copper river as we rafted down the river from Chitina. Promptly responded, gave accurate information, and delivered my truck as we had asked. Very professional! I would highly recommend them.

Jack and Sherri are wonderful. They are knowledgeable of the area and provided us with a spectacular day on their air boat over to the million dollar bridge and glacier. We were fortunate to see the glacier calving. Thanks for a special time in Cordova.

Jack and Cherrie were great hosts as they ferried us across the delta in a super-fun airboat, and then took us in a van to beautiful Childs Glacier, Million Dollar Bridge, and a view of Miles Glacier as well. The day we were there, we nine people were the only humans in the whole area! At the glacier site they built a fire for us and had hot drinks. We brought our own picnic. We recommend this experience highly.
