About
We would like to invite you to experience traveling to Childs Glacier as you never have before. The road has washed away at the 36 mile bridge so the glacier is no longer accessible by road. We would like to offer you the opportunity to visit the glacier via an airboat and then a 15 passenger van.

In the 48 years I lived in Cordova and made visits to the million dollar bridge via car and air boat before road was washed out at 36 mile, the RIVERSIDE INN and AIR BOAT TOUR with Jack and nephew Ben was the BEST vacation EVER for Carol and I . The professionalism and safety concerns were out standing. Jack's knowledge of the Copper River highway and bridge was informative. It was a beautiful 70 degree day with a light breeze, maybe Jack ordered the weather???I highly recommend this tour for everyone to experience .

This is THE way to see Childs Glacier! For starters, despite what you may read elsewhere, the bridge to Childs Glacier is washed out. So, if you want to go to the viewing spots for this glacier, Jack and Cherrie's airboat is the way to go. Literally. They will pick you at the designated spot, ferry you across the river (about 5 minutes) on their airboat, then load you in their van for the short drive down to the (almost) abandoned park station. They are lovely hosts and do a tremendous job of keeping the areas maintained so when you get to the viewing station and pavilion, all the facilities are fresh and clean and ready for a picnic and hot chocolate. We did have a bear waiting for us as we drove up (!), but he was quick to make his departure which just added to the fun. We got really lucky and did get to see the glacier calving so it does happen, especially with higher water levels. We also saw a seal playing in the Copper River and icebergs floating down. Jack led us up the path to the top of the hill (easy hike) so we could get a better view of the glacier and bridge. And all of this with just our small group - no other people in sight. This was one of our favorite days in Alaska. Worth every penny!

Our visit to Child's Glacier and the Million Dollar Bridge was outstanding. Jack's years of experience working in the area added historical background I would have otherwise missed. Anyone from Interior Alaska who has spent time in Chitina, Kennicott or McCarthy will appreciate seeing the other end of the railroad, as well as the fish-counting operation that determines the openers at both Chitina and Cordova. S'mores, and hot cocoa around the campfire while watching seals chase salmon up the Copper River in front of Child's Glacier... what more could you want? All in all just a fabulous day!

Our day with Jack was one of the most memorable of our 10 days in Alaska. We probably picked the worst weather day of the summer to take this tour, yet we couldn't have had a better time. Jack was willing to cancel our reservation if we chose to, but we decided to persevere and we're glad that we did. We got to tour the ranger station, hike to the cel tower, enjoy hot chocolate in the park pavilion and scope out moose, seals, and eagles. The view of the Child's Glacier was just icing on the cake. You'll not regret spending your day with Jack.

This was a great tour to view Child's Glacier. So glad we found Riverside Inn and Airboat Tours to take us to the glacier. The road that goes to the glacier is now impassable, but with Jack from Riverside, we were able to take an airboat and ATV to be able to view the glacier and the surrounding area. Jack is a great guide, full of information about the area and the glacier. We had a wonderful day watching the glacier calve and got to see some excellent calving action. Another great bonus was watching a seal swimming up the Copper River, searching for a meal. Excellent trip and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Jack and Sherri are wonderful. They are knowledgeable of the area and provided us with a spectacular day on their air boat over to the million dollar bridge and glacier. We were fortunate to see the glacier calving. Thanks for a special time in Cordova.

Jack and Cherrie were great hosts as they ferried us across the delta in a super-fun airboat, and then took us in a van to beautiful Childs Glacier, Million Dollar Bridge, and a view of Miles Glacier as well. The day we were there, we nine people were the only humans in the whole area! At the glacier site they built a fire for us and had hot drinks. We brought our own picnic. We recommend this experience highly.

Our day trip to Miles Glacier / Child's Glacier / Million Dollar Bridge area was wonderful, thanks to the awesome views, and to the excellent service provided by the owners of Childs Glacier Tours. Trip on their airboat, nice and informative conversation, and a very good picnic in a beautiful location made our day! Recommended.

We recently spent a day with the Stevenson family (led by Cherrie and Jack) at the Childs Glacier in the Chugach National Forest, some 49 miles east of Cordova. Jack and Cherrie treated us with exceptional hospitality, treating us as "members of their extended family." The limited access to the forest service shelter and campground across the river from the glacier provides an air of exclusivity to the day. Multiple short day hikes lead out from the shelter area, including pathways to the historic Million Dollar Bridge, completed in 1910 to serve the copper mining area further to the north. Bring food, drinks (though snacks are provided), cameras, and bear protection. Be prepared to relax and soak up the views, including possible glacier calving.

I cannot say enough about the hospitality from Jack and Cherrie on this Childs Glacier tour. If you get the opportunity to stay at their inn, I highly recommend that as well. Right on the Eyak river in a tranquil setting.

Thank you, again, for such an amazing trip.
