Black Rock beach is historically and culturally important to the people of Rarotonga. Facing north-west, and receiving all day sun, the lagoon area is a popular aqua-playground. The prominent black rocks serve as diving platforms into the rock pools below. Black Rock is also the home of Rarotonga's only golf course, as well as the tennis centre and beach volleyball courts.

Let me first start by saying that I only gave this beach a rating of 4 due to its rocky bottom in places. My family loved this beach and we spent a lot of time here! There is a great little sandy bottom lagoon pool in from of the big black rock that is just perfect for a dip. When... More

Visited on a windy day. Snorkling OK, but there are better places on the island such as Muri and Fruits of Rarotonga. Nice beach

It's a little tricky to make your way down to the beach. We walked along a man's property, and it seemed to be okay with him. The day we were there was very low tide as well as some wind. As a result, it was too dangerous to snorkel because the tide was just so low. However, it is a... More

We hired a car and drove around the island every day so this was our favourite spot for swimming and snorkelling. It was also a good spot to take a photo of planes arriving at Rarotongo airport

Kia Orana Visited the Black Rock area after walking back from Avarua (takes longer than you think) and it was awesome. The rock being so black and unlike the other geology stands out from the rest of the area and really does look like it could have been the result of the myths and legends. The locals say that the... I love this rock! Yes, its a black rock that is sitting right on shore, but look at the turquoise waters surrounding it. Look at how black that rock actually is. Its quite stunning, sitting on a beach that is full of coral (bring your thongs!). There is a legend to the rock and I do forget the majority of... More

the black rock boulders are uniquely massive and black at the Nikao Social Centre beach site that you can never this them. this is a good length of white sandy beach here great place to take pictures and watch the planes land.

Just opposite the Black Rock Beach you will find the Ester Honey Centre, a group of volunteer vets who help the dogs of Rarotonga. They welcome people who are keen to take the recuperating dogs for a walk along the beach. We did this a couple of times and was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Especially if... More
