We went on this excursion that was offered by our cruise line. There were 5 Land rover 4x4s that held up to 10 people each. Seating was two long benches on each side with open sides. The 4x4 took us into the rain forest and to the highest peak to see the stunning valley below. The views from the top were spectacular. Make sure you wear sunblock, take a hat, water bottle and wear insect spray. The mosquitos were terrible. The ride up was extremely bumpy and there are no seat belts in the 4x4. Individuals with any type of mobility issue or women that are pregnant should not take this tour. We then proceeded to see other sites on the island. At the conclusion we had the option of returning to the ship or being dropped off in the town area. The town has many shops and restaurants and it was about a 10 minute walk back to the pier. Rarotonga is a beautiful island and the locals are very warm and welcoming.

A Great way to travel the inner roads with an expert guide. Our family of 4 loved it even though it was raining most of the time. Lunch back at their base at the end was very tasty and they have drinks for very reasonable prices.

This is a must do while on Rarotonga. We had an older gentleman as our guide, he had been there 40 years. He was great, knowledgeable about the ancients way of doing things, like which bush you picked the leaves off to keep the mossey's off and many other homeopathic remedies. And he was funny as can be. If you can ask for him specifically as your guide. You will not be disappointed. His nickname for the tour is Mr. Useless, real name is Peter. We did the tour in a torrential rain storm and it was still good. So if the weather was good it probably would have been even better. Some of the older folks in our truck were freaking out as we were 4-wheeling on slippery, rocky, loose soil, up and down steep grades. Being an old 4X4 driver myself I know this guy knew his stuff. I turn 78 the day after this. So I really didn't see what the younger and older folks were concerned about. We had a blast. They took you to the interior where regular cars could not make it and to a vista that was beautiful. Then back to the low lands where they served you lunch.

My favorite part of this tour was going along all of the back roads. The homes, animals, and farms of the locals are fascinating. You take in historic and cultural sites and plenty of scenery. The climb to “The Heights” is steep and exciting and the views are beautiful. We barely made out the “The Needle” through the gray skies but it was still a fun trip in the rain (ponchos are provided) and a nice lunch is waiting at the end of the tour.

I booked this last minute and they were kind enough to accommodate all of us. Our guide Mr Chocolate was a riot, it felt like I was talking to family or someone I knew. The sense of hospitality and love from the whole crew is so special. We were picked up and taken through all the different farms through the back/old road. The highlight was the mountain for me, it was so much fun to hold on to the FWD as we went up the mountain. The view from the mountain was breathtaking, it illustrated the lush beauty Raro has to offer. Mr Useless and Mr Chocolate are amazing hosts and tour guides - a must do for everyone.
