About
Founded in 2016, Rarotonga Brewery has quickly grown into a local icon, having rapidly gained popularity among locals and tourists alike. The philosophy behind it all is simple – produce a high-quality beer that competes with the world's best. No doubt, the locals are proud to call it their own. Following the 'Reinheitsgebot' or 'German Purity Law' for beer, Cook Islands Lager is brewed with essentially only three ingredients; water, hops, and grains. No additives, no preservatives. Although it sounds simple enough, brewing this beer is no easy task. Our Brewers are up at the crack of dawn perfecting the sweet science that is Cook Islands Lager. The end result? A crisp, clean, refreshing lager with a clear amber colour and a medium sized head. The fresh taste is undeniable. Although the beer is delivered fresh around the island daily, it's hard to beat one straight from the source. Come on down to Raopposite The Oasis gas station in Nikao. Merchandise is also available. Yup, get a flagon and get it refilled. TBH it took me a flagon and a half to get used to Rarotonga Lager, but I'm a craft beer drinking plonker and commercial beers don't usually spin my wheels. But when RaroLager is chilled properly it defenitely grew on me. Why is a flagon so important? Because all those Heine*ken, Coro*a etc bottles end up in landfisll on Raro, if the glass crushing plant isn't working. So do the right thing: Have a free tour of the brewery (10 minutes), buy a flagon, fill it, and come back for more the next day. How often does drinking beer and caring for the environment go hand in hand? Good work Raro Brewery.
No worries bringing your flagon back into NZ, you just can't have beer in it. To reduce bulk in my pack I stuffed my undies into the empty flagon. When I unpacked it took me 20 minutes to get them out : )

The staff are super friendly and the beer tour was really informative. You can tell there is real passion here and that's great to see. The tasting experience is all free but you can walk away with some amazing beer (the pale ale is my favourite) and kombucha and even go back for refills.

Very good locally produced beer. Surprised to see many people, including locals, still drinking the mass produced and imported brands!!!!
They had a very delicious kombucha on tap as well.
Well worth the visit and get on the flagons...better option than bottles!!

We really enjoyed the tour and went through several growlers of lager during our stay. The Brewery's commitment to the environment makes it even more attractive from a customer's perspective. While some of the tour guests were disappointed that the brewery didn't serve beer by the pint I still wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a tourist stop.
P.S. The polo shirts are awesome!

Kia Orana! Thank you for your excellent review! Alongside producing great beer, the environment is another one of our major passions. Thank you for supporting us and our passion by choosing to drink Cooks Lager by the growler/flagon. For every 2L flagon, 6 glass bottles are saved from entering out landfill! So thank you for doing your part for our little paradise We hope to see you again soon Meitaki Maata

The beer here is delicious. Refreshing and of a good quality.

The brewery itself is quite small but well worth a visit and the staff are friendly and helpful with whatever questions you may have

We made several return visits to have our canister re-filled. The lady behind the bar was always freindly and helpful. The beer on tap was always icy cold and I enjoyed it that much I ended up buying a polo shirt as well.

Fun small place that provides beer for many of the islands restaurants. Will give you a taste. They also provide beer from other sources.

Fantastic people making a great beer at affordable prices and environmentally conscious as well. Free tours at 11 am 12 midday not open on Sundays. The boys liked the refillable bottle idea especially when they had a designated driver (me) so could go get top ups when they liked. $11 for a refill so very happy with that and supporting a local business whose beer they loved. Recommend booking in for tour ahead of the day as limited availabilities and they sure are busy. Just a note check shirt sizing when buying.

Thank you for your wonderful review. We're so happy you've enjoyed our beer and our environmental initiatives - did you know we have also asked the supplier of our flagons to stop sending our flagons in plastic bubble wrap? Next time we recommend you guys try our flagons - it's even cheaper to refill than the bottles and keeps the beer cold for hours without the need for ice. Meitaki maata

The Rarotonga Brewery celebrated it's one year birthday on 14 October 2017. The brewery is managed by Edward and Tooks Neenee who threw a great birthday party!
Lager is brewed on the spot with either a glass in the brewery or a take away Stainless Steel Flagon for $45.00 which can be refilled and holds 2L for $14.00 or a Pubpets 1.5 L. On the wall they have signs advertising the establishments on Rarotonga that offer their brew. The Lager is outstanding and after drinking their lager you won't go back to bottled beer! The brewery is open 9AM to 6PM Monday thru Saturday.
