What an amazing experience!! Jo + Terai were fantastic with balancing education, respect for the animals (and nature), and meeting client aspirations for the trip. They were such friendly and humorous guides, offering clear instructions and cautions about animal safety.
We were so fortunate in getting to see several pods above water and waiting until the right time to get into the water with them. This tour does require you to be strong swimmers, or at least moderately fast swimmers, so you can get the best views of the humpbacks. If you’re lucky, the humpbacks will be more playful or restful than active, so you can enjoy them better without chasing them. Yesterday (8/31) we were so lucky! We were in the water with whales 3 different times, though I chose not to go on one due to motion sickness, but it was still so amazing to see the whales that closely. There is no better experience than being in the water with them and, being so close to them was the highlight of our trip so far. A lot is based on luck and intense swimming (and pushing through motion sickness) but it was all 100% worth it.
If you don’t have a go pro, a visiting photographer went out with us and took some amazing pictures. She gave us business cards to contact her afterwards to buy her images. Previews of her images were on her social media as well.
