- Curious42116566 contributionsBeautiful View but be careful on the curvesGreat view of Opunohu Bay and Cook Bay. When driving up or down be aware that there are a few sharp curves. On way down 6 scooters riding together in a line could not make the curve and they ended up in our lane. 2 stopped just in front of our car and the others almost lost control and and hit the side. Luckily I saw them on the road earlier and knew they were in a group so I stopped short of curve. Happily we all were safe and continued on our day trips. We mentioned this when returning the car and they said the scooters were rented from them too and accidents happen. - CWR01Whidbey Island, Washington480 contributionsStunning views, lovely hikeWell worth your time to visit. Like Magic Mountain, this place has stunning views, but the hike itself is more interesting. And the cost is right---free. And here there are no ATVs or trucks sharing the path with you. Best of all, it is free. Highly recommend.Visited December 2022Written December 11, 2022
- bst0002Brisbane, Australia53 contributionsAmazing view!Caught a taxi at the Moorea ferry dropoff and drove up a winding bitumen road to Belvedere Lookout through the luscious tropical surroundings. It was a very busy time at the lookout but the view was a good as they say!. We could clearly make out Opunohu and Cook Bays. Dont forget to take photos of the mountainside as well!Visited December 2022Written January 5, 2023
- Deanna J5 contributionsDon't miss this one!We took a quad tour to get here and it was worth every penny. It gives a breathtaking view of the island. You can also hike it, just take a lot of water and go early morning before the heat sets in.Visited February 2023Written February 20, 2023
- Brian DDenver, Colorado2,393 contributionsBelvedere! Incredible Lookout Across the Island - Mt Rotui and the Bays - Don't Miss!Great viewpoint to see the Opunohu Valley and the majestic Mt Rotui staring back at you dividing two bays in the distance. There are hiking paths from the parking lot of this lookout. The trails seem to head quite a distance, but it is no problem to take a quick look at the flora and fauna along the trail. A good easy 1/2 mile along the path and you can turn around and come back to enjoy the views at the lookout. While walking along the hiking path, expect to see lots of rainbow skinks. They are everywhere! At first they are good at hiding, but then as you become used to seeing where they like to hide, you'll spot them every step along the way. They are very colorful, small lizards. As you return to the parking lot, there is a nice platform with a railing for you to take pictures or just take in the amazing beauty of this island. The drive up to this parking lot was about 15 minutes, but it is fully paved. Don't take the non-paved side roads as those lead to other places and not the lookout. The two bays you'll see separated by Mt Rotui are Cook Bay and Opunohu Bay.Visited April 2023Written May 11, 2023
- Deanne DWellington, New Zealand1,457 contributionsSuperb viewsTake the side road up to the lookout. The views were very good. Can see both the bays from the top and you are close to the awesome shaped mountains. There is plenty of parking further down the hill if the car park at the very top is full.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 16, 2023

We were dropped by beach by a cab, and we walked through the most beautiful fertile valley. Lush w cows and even little crabs along the sides..views of the mountains.. but ca s on this road are crazy.. construction workers , maybe people who live up here... we have found island drivers to be crazy . They don’t slow down so move over and stay alert. It’s a long gradual
Climb up a paved road through thick jungle. Good work out . We didn’t make it all the way to the top because we had a set time to meet the cab back at the beach.. which was a drag. We set out a bit too late and didn’t have a good sense of where we were going. The lower cooks trail may have been better. Concierge should’ve been better to explain time frames and goals for this but good work out and beautiful and we were happy to leave the resort and try some allow 3 hours( 1.5 up to top) ..if on foot but I think the electric bike would be fun. We saw a group of atvs also
Botanical gardens and magic mountain hikes( $2 o person for Thai one) also things to try near hilton that are shorter and offer great views.

Belvedere Lookout provides a scenic view of Opunohu Bay and Cook's Bay. A good location for taking photos of the islands and its mountains. At 240m elevation, access is via a narrow one lane road that twists and turns up the mountain. On cruise ship days you have to manoeuvre around the tour buses.

It’s a very easy drive to the overlook – it’s not at the top of the mountain. It’s 100% paved road with a few narrow spots but all were passable for two vehicles. They’re also in the process of widening it, so it can only get better for future visitors.
It’s a nice vantage point to see the mountains and valleys with the added bonus of fresh coconut water at the top.

This is a great drive to get an appreciation for the topography of Moorea. I was told the north side of the volcano sank into the ocean, so the cone you see and the two bays on either side was the center of the volcano. The rock wall behind you is the remaining south side. This vista showcases it well. Not a good place to see sunset in March, the sun set behind the wall to the west.
A bonus is the Tahitian antiquities site on the way up. Very cool jungle walk through a number of ruins of villiage and agricultural sites. It is well signed in English. A great opportunity to see jungle and antiquities. Cooler in the jungle. Decent shoes required and a few stream crossings.

Beautiful view! We went to Belvedere Lookout as part of a 1/2 day 4x4 island exclusion. The view were amazing and we enjoyed learning about the history of the island from our tour guide. It was a bit buggy so I would pack some bug spray.

The outlooks can be accessed via a safe and well maintained paved road. Best to access via a scooter or car as hike would be long and challenging. There are hiking trails at the top once you arrive. The view itself is great. Definitely visit while on the island.

This is THE view of Moorea’s two stunning bays on either side of Belvedere. Hope for a clear day but go anyway. Take advantage of nearby hikes that offer different perspectives of that view, just make sure to wear the right shoes. And check out the Maraes on the way down or up that also offer many trails. Otherwise your excursion will be reduced to hopping out of the car to look, snap a photo and leave. Savor this one.

A lovely paved drive up the hill to a generous parking area. Good maps and trail markings that have clearly worn through the years, but impressive still for a small island. We hiked for about an hour. Surprisingly few mosquitos inside the forest despite small streams and waterfalls.

This may be the most photographed feature on the island, and rightly so. Unfortunately, there is no assurance that it won't be cloud covered when you are there. The parking area tends to be crowded with other visitors. The ruins (marae) along the road are definitely worth a stop, as there are many interpretive signs and well-marked paths.

HI
Not sure on the distance to get anywhere, staying at the Manava. Do we need a car to get to Belvedere and if so can you park at the top and get out to do the hikes? Thanks!!

There is a transportation company directly across the street from the hotel. They have vans that do tours and rental cars.

We used Safari Mario, wonderful tour with Mario who moved to Moorea from the area of Turin, Italy! We didn't visit the Tiki Village on the tour but we went to Magic Mountain, Belvedere, Tropical Gardens, Pineapple field and a few other places. Check out his site and see if it's for you!

Is this something that requires transportation from the pier or can someone walk it on his/her own?

In my opinion i would say it's to far to walk. In fact it would be a very expensive taxi ride. I would call them and ask about a shuttle.
