The Caminatas family gave the best service we have ever received with almost 24/7 service. Everything was perfectly planned from our arrival to San Gerardo till our return from the hike. The Chirripó hike was an amazing experience. We can definitely recommend to book the hike through Caminatas al Chirripó because of the good service and also since it seems almost impossible to book it on your own.

Booking our trek to Cerro Chirripo through Caminatas al Chirripo was a very pleasant and well organized experience. There were very responsive to our requests and communicated with us quickly when they secured our park permits. They answered every question we had and provided a great deal of information ahead of time to help prepare us for the hike.
We also decided to book a local licensed guide through Caminatas al Chirripo and this worked out extremely well. Eligio was there to provide assistance and guidance when needed and also enhanced the experience by sharing tidbits of information about the area and pointing out flora and fauna. The hike was challenging but the sights along the trail and views from the peak were well worth the effort. Would highly recommend using the services of Caminatas al Chirripo and a local guide.

Thanks so much to Amelia for taking care of us! Amelia helped to organise our Chirripo experience and ensure everything went as smoothly as possible. The planning and extra care from Caminatos / Selva White Water made sure we were just focussed on our hike. I would recommend their services to anyone! And would definitely use them again. The package we got included the organisation and booking of our permits, lodging, porters, meals (breakfast on the morning before the hike, lunch when we arrived at base camp, dinner, breakfast and lunch or dinner). They have partnered with a hotel right at the bottom of the trail. This is where you will stay on your first night and when you finish your hike they have a place for you to shower. In the early morning, Jorge collects you from the hotel and drops you to the start of the trail so you don’t waste any energy; and he has a welcoming smile also there to collect you when you finish. I hope everyone can experience the familial warmth that this tour company offers to its customers. Thank you!

Amelia was fantastic taking her time to explain to me what to expect and the steps needed to prepare for the hike as well as support translating at the little hotel where they didn't speak English. Jenny, our guide did her very best to provide a safe hike up the mountain. These ladies are amazing and I recommend this company for anyone planning a hike to Chirripo.

I’m a 48 year old Canadian woman who left her husband on the beach to climb a mountain, and Las Caminatas Al Chirripó made it amazing. The communication was great from my first inquiry. Once my trip was booked Amelia provided all the information needed to prepare for the hike. Eligio joined me as my guide. He was just fantastic; informative, patient and encouraging. I would recommend a guide if your not from Costa Rica or if you plan on going alone. I met Eligio at the hotel the evening before the hike for a brief chat on what to expect.
I did the three day two night tour. The price was excellent value as they did all planning for me. Communication with Amelia was in English, but all of the links and documents can in Spanish. This is not a problem, just use the translation feature on your browser. Upload any images to Google/Microsoft translate.
I stayed at the hotel El Descanso which was basic and clean with excellent service (bring your own shampoo). The hotel provided spaghetti dinner the night before and a take away breakfast for the next morning. Although I did not eat the take-away cheese and bean sandwich for breakfast as beans for breakfast made me nervous for my unaccustomed tummy. Bring lots of your own trail snacks!
I dropped one bag off to be portered up to Base Crestones, this included basic toiletries, and sleeping stuff and warm clothes for the summit. The hotel kept a bag safe for me when I returned the following day. The hotel also let me shower when I finished the hike.
A car picked my up at the hotel at 3 am, and I met Eligio at the trailhead. The night and early morning hike was awesome! Make sure to stop for a snack at llano bonito (7km). Order the cheese tortilla (see pic) and coffee - yum!
Base Crestones was very nice. Although be forewarned that you might have to climb stairs to your room; my legs were unimpressed. The food here was good. Typical Costa Rican food. Bed was comfortable, blankets provided were warm enough.
2:30am departure for the summit was amazing. So many brilliant stars and a beautiful sunrise from the summit.

Climbing Cerro Chirripo was a last-minute decision for me and my group, but I want to thank Caminatas al Chirripo for accommodating our reservation in a few days (but I definitely suggest booking at least two weeks in advance to avoid any unnecessary stress). The staff was quick to respond to my emails/texts, and made sure our group was well-informed and prepared of what to expect for our trip. Check-in was smooth, and Laura at her beautiful hostel "Mis Ojos Claros" was such a wonderful host in preparing delicious meals, as well as making sure we did not miss our bus ride back by driving us all the way back into town. I highly recommend booking with this tour agency because they are one of the most affordable ones out there.
The view of the sunrise at the top of Chirripo was indescribable - you'd HAVE to climb it in order to understand why. So happy we got the opportunity to take on this challenge because it was well worth it.

Las caminatas al Chirripo helped my friend and I reserve places for the trek during a busy time of year with success! They were very professional and helpful, they made sure all the details were covered to keep us worry free. They really made this experience one we will remember as all went as planned. We were invited to the family's house for 2 traditional meals where we enjoyed great conversations on christmas day where they made us feel at home for this special day of the year.
I highly recommend contacting this family owned business for their diverse services in Costa Rica! I was very impressed with their sense of details and attention to ensure all went smoothly.
