We walked through the park on a Sunday morning after visiting the art museum. What was interesting to me is that this area used to be where the runways were for the 1940 city airport. Today it is well used by local where you can watch soccer and volleyball games. There are also benches and tables for sitting. Nice place.

Parque La Sabana is a huge park situated just outside of the central area of San Jose. Therefore it can afford to be large in size and there is plenty to do. It is also right next to the National Stadium. It has soccer pitches, basketball and tennis courts a running track, lake and more. The lake offers beautiful and picturesque views of the park. They could attempt to do a bit more and to update some of the facilities in my opinion. Kayak rental for the lake etc?

This is a nice place to just walk or bring a picnic. Sometimes there are fun events going on as well such as food truck festivals, outdoor concerts etc. The national stadium is also located here. see if you can catch a game during your visit. It's really fun!

The park is a DUMP...unregulated food vendors, human feces, used condoms, horse manure, motorcycles driving across the park, corrupt park officials, charging money for using the public restroom, every other tree is a urinal, dog poop from stray and leashed dogs all over the place. It's not a family friendly park it's a place where ticos poop and urinate in public...and throw their garbage.

While La Sabana is mainly just a giant green area with trails winding through, it is one of the top summer venues for big events in Costa Rica. If you are here from Nov. through the end of May, it's worth a walk through as you never know what you'll stumble upon! From international art festivals to horse parades, or on an off day you will still find tons of family, ice cream vendors, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields and a manmade lake that still attracts over-optimistic line-held fishermen. Even if you don't catch one of the events, you can get a great look at tico culture or try out the canopy zipline that takes you right over the lake! Definitely 'tame' in comparison to other destinations. Sat. mornings also feature dance aerobic classes free for the public near the national gymnasium and on Sundays you can stop into the National Art Museum for free to see some great rotating exhibits!

One caveat: just don't walk through here at dusk or later, the lighting is poor and it's better to be safe than sorry!

Dirty, run down park with nothing in it. The ponds that show blue on the map are green algae covered unattractive pools.

If you want to spend some time outside, make exercise, take your children, spend time with family or friends, you can go to La Sabana. In dry season there's many dust around if it's a windy day, so you better carry your sunglasses.

We had a great expectation for this park, but is almost dying, it has nothing to do or see that seams interesting, its not really worth a visit, and it also scares me, for the place and the people

This is a large park that I'm sure once upon a Time was very nice. It seems quite run down. There is nothing particularly nice about it. Other than it being large open space, it does not even merit an "average" rating. If you need a place to run or walk and it's nearby, then by all means use it for that purpose but otherwise don't waste your time here.

People go there almost 24/7. It is really nice for outdoor exercise or sports. It’s advisable to go at NORMAL hours and wonder in places where there are other people.

Try not to go at nite or earlier than 5:00 a.m.
