The Jade Museum and of precolumbian culture is positioned as an innovative state-of-the-art cultural proposal in the protection and conservation of archaeological heritage in Central America. Located in the center of Costa Rics's capital, the building was especially constructed to house the museum's collection, its architecture evoking a cut jade block. Its five levels exhibit objects crafted by artisans specialized in solving their daily subsistence needs, their spiritual and political world.

This is one of the things you have to go and see while your are visiting or if you live in Costa Rica. This place is very close to everything downtown.....so, can pretty much see it all. Now for the jade museum, fantastic. Makes you wonder how so called primitive people can make such a wonder full piece of art... More

The 50 students I took to this museum were amazed to see everything they had studied in class, appear before their eyes. It is a beautiful way to learn about Pre-Colombian artifacts. There was even an archaeological site in which students were able to dig and discover, that was a great added feature! There were also lots of interactive, touch-screen... More

I had once visited the Jade Museum, quite some time ago. It was an interesting museum in a not-so-special facility. However, it is now located in a new building and the entire exhibit seems new in all respects. It is now located fairly close to the tourist-y Nuestra Tierra restaurant, which is where we had just had lunch, prior to... More

Very nicely done - very modern, interesting, bilingual (Spanish/English ) displays help a wider variety of people understand the content. As others have noted, good entertainment value. I was on a solo trip and if I go back to San Jose with family or friends , this is one of the top 3 things to see in San Jose. I... More

This was hands down my favorite attraction in SJ. Excellent exhibit in a great building. Lots of fun interactive displays and so much to see and learn. All information in Spanish and English.

We were all pleasantly surprised by the Jade Museum. While the adults in our party were far more interested in visiting this cultural institution, the kids were not looking forward to the outing. That is, until they entered the exhibit. We knew it was a 'kid-friendly' activity, but the hands-on activities for the kids are quite excellent. Our 9 year-old... More

This is a really fun and interactive museum . There are five rooms on five different floors. Each room offers jade and it's historical significance from a different perspective. I enjoyed getting to feel and learn how it is found and then made into jewelry. Every new rooms offers a totally different ambiance and it was always a very pleasant... More

A must see for families, couples, and all! Cameras are allowed! The museum holds the world's 3rd largest gold collection and is steeped in historical interpretive displays. There is also a very impressive history lesson of the Costa Rican colon' (money) and art work. Plan at least 2 hours to see it all. NOTE: be prepared for security screening at... More

if you want to know about jade then this is the place for you, good exhibits and well laid out. The new museum is worth a trip, go either first thing in the morning or late afternoon to miss the tourist groups.
