We did the free walking tour to get a feel for San Jose. Ama our guide did an amazing job telling us about the history of Costa Rica and how it comes to life through the building and statues of past presidents. I learnt so much!!

He also walked us through the city mall and the markets. His passion for the city was clear to see.

I would highly recommend this tour.

Amazing tour guide - Ama (Amaral) - is very passionate about Costa Rica history and culture. We leaned so much in a funny, friendly way. We started the tour immediatly after arrival, and it was really great to get some tips on where to go, what to do and to get acquainted with the city streers. Our guide was wonderful also in providing the tips for the rest of our time in the city.

Iva was very knowledgeable and friendly. Prior to beginning the tour she assessed the interest of the group and made references to those interests during the tour, which I thought was a nice touch. It even started pouring rain during the tour and Iva found us a nice spot to wait out the rain, and even used it as a nice time for a group picture. This was one of the best tours that I’ve been on. Would recommend.

Braulio was a very friendly chap. He was extremely enthusiastic about the history and politics of colonized San Jose. What disappointed us is that he never spoke about the Indigenous Community that inhabited the San Jose area before colonization. He also pointed out China Town. When asked why there was a China Town, he responded that Chinese workers were brought in to build the railroad. That is true, but never addressed that they worked as indentured servants in farm labor, domestic service, and the construction of the railroad to the Atlantic coast. This is the difficult history that needs to be told.

We had a few hours to kill in San Jose and found this awesome 3+ hour tour with Eva. She has great knowledge about San Jose’s history and is more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the city and Costa Rica more generally. She does a great job of explaining the architectural political, cultural and culinary details of the city. Had a great experience, highly recommend. Thanks again Eva.

We were a bit late but the guide didn't mind waiting and was a very good storyteller. Learnt a lot about the city's history and its funfacts. I would definitely recommend it to everyone!

The guide, Ale, was a nice local student that took us around the center and explained part of the history of Costa Rica through the different monuments located in the area.

He managed very well a quite unpleasant situation with a fake guide that approached us.

The Free Tour San Jose is EXCELLENT! The tour guide is very knowledgeable, funny, and fun. It is definitely worth your time to be on this tour, whether you are there for one day or several days. It is a great way to get a feel for the vibrant, historical, and beautiful city of San Jose. There is a lot to see in such a small area. I loved the tour!! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it. I stayed in San Jose for 4 days and found out about this tour on my last day. If I had known about this tour and how good it was, I would have definitely taken the other tours associated with this one! It's a MUST DO tour!!!
