I've rafted on rivers in a number of countries and this uniquely beautiful - a mix of wide open river, canyons, waterfalls, lush jungle... had it all. Very well organized hotel pick up, meals, lockers, etc. Highly recommended.

Definitely worth doing, whether first-time rafters (our case) or more advanced. Perfect organization from the team, and what a natural setting on the Pacuare river !

What to bring/wear for whitewater rafting (6 Replies)
We're going to be whitewater rafting on the Sarapiqui in a few weeks, with Rios Tropicales. They say to bring a bag with dry clothes. I'm assuming this bag of clothes is held for us at the end-point, so we can change into dry clothes for the drive back to our hotel. I'm confused about what I should do with my wallet and cellphone. Is there any way for me to take them and keep them safe, or should I leave them in the hotel room? I'm trying to picture the set up, and I can't imagine it...More

Leave the cellphone, camera, wallet in your hotel safe. We rafted on the Sarpiqui in April and you do not need any of these things. Our outfitter (Wave Expeditons) had a photographer. Wear a swim suit and a teeshirt. You will get wet even if you do not fall out of the raft. Be sure to have some cash on hand to tip your guide. It is a blast and the scenery is breathtaking.

I need help in deciding on a rafting trip with my two 17-year old nieces. Expediciones Tropicales - has an adventure combo tour for $99 that includes rafting on the Sarapiqui(2&3class rapids) & 1.5 hours of zip lines Costa Rican Expeditions - has a conventional level of service trip for $99 per person on the Pacuare River (3&4 class rapids). Rios Tropicales - also has a 1 day Pacuare River trip for $99 per person. If anyone has any experience with these tour...More

My primary advice would be to take the TWO-DAY trip on the Pacuare River if you have the time. It is fun and interesting to stay in the lodge on the river overnite. We did the trip with Rios Tropicales and were very pleased. If you decide on the one-day trip, I would see which river is closest to where you are staying and take that trip because travel times in Costa Rican traffice can be longer than you expect.
