About Rios Tropicales
Rios Tropicales is an eco-adventure company that operates throughout Costa Rica. We offer adventure activities that take advantage of Costa Rica’s unique variety of environments: whitewater rafting, multisport activities that feature kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and cycling, family adventures, cultural encounters, nature and wildlife tours, and “volun-tourism”. Our mission, to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values, has not changed since we began in 1985. Rios Tropicales was established by native Central Americans, El Salvadorian Rafael Gallo and Costa Rican Fernando Esquivel, whose deep connection with the region and culture are apparent in every aspect of the company. Our conservation, reforestation, ecopreneurs, education, and community efforts have earned us numerous national and international recognition and awards.

Our guide carlos made this trip amazing! He was so informative on local culture and extremely safety conscious. He explained every scenario we could encounter and how to navigate safely through it. The scenery was spectacular and the experience was incedible. I highly recommend this tour through this company.

My wife and I recently spent 3 days in the safe hands of 'Johnny' and his team from Rios Tropicales. We cannot rate them highly enough, they made our trip safe and fun and exciting. Their knowledge and personalities and love of what they do shone through. They cooked for us, and chatted to us, and gave us a walking tour of the forest. This trip was the best bit of our recent holiday to Costa Rica, and we enjoyed every other day of the holiday too. Can't wait to come back for more. John & Jo, Sheffield, England

our raft guide picked us up from our hotel in San Jose and right at 5:30 in the morning he had so much energy, it was great. I believe his name was Carlos or something similar but im not extremely sure, his nickname was Chiko though. When explaining rafting to all of us first timers he was very thorough and had a large sense of humor. he was with us on the raft as well and he took the time to explain all the parts of nature well, keep up the humor, all while instructing us really well. He gave us bananas and chocolate at the end which was very sweet of him. Overall, I really enjoyed their service, everything was delightful.

We had a nice trip to the rapids - out guid pointed out some interesting things, and we stopped for a bathroom break and some empanadas at someone's house (?!?). The road was a bit rough after that ("Costa Rican massage', we were told). Good instructions and we felt safe they whole time, but we only had class II and III rapids, and not a lot of them at that. It was the first time for our kids, so maybe that was a good thing. But as 10- and 12-year olds, they easily handled it. Good pit stop along the way for a snack and a waterfall.

What an absolutely wonderful and perfect experience! All thanks to the hard work and abundant information that our guides have us. Sebastian, Diego and Otto, I can't thank them enough for keeping us safe and educating us on the flora and fauna. The rafting was an adventure of a lifetime and I will be back. Unfortunately one of the women on our group caused a problem with one of the guides and I feel terrible about this. But thanks to their professionalism and ability to deal with over emotional and dramatic people, everything was smooth sailing. Or smooth rafting I should say! Thank you Diego, Sebastian and Otto you guys are my heros!
