This studio is a bit off the beaten track, but worth a visit, particularly if you are interested in purchasing wood products. We started with a tour of the facility and a nice description of the process. After we heard about the fact that it takes 15 years to make one bowl we were quite worried that the products would... The free tour of the garden and woodworking process was fascinating. Minor who gave the tour was very informative . The quality and pride cannot be surpassed. I bought a number of pieces. I have been to Costa Rica several times and have bought a number of jewelry boxes and miscellaneous boxes at the Artisans Market downtown which had the... More

Of all the craft shops we visited while in Costa Rica, Biesanz Woodworks ranks at the very top. This is a real gem, and Senor Minor made our visit the most rewarding of all our various tours during our time in country. As an unexpected bonus, he maintains a drop dead gorgeous botanical garden at the rear of the property,... More

We spent our last 2 days in Costa Rica in the city of San Jose. While there, we went to a truly wonderful woodworking artisan studio up on a hill in the city. You must have a functional GPS or a knowledgeable taxi driver to find the location--you wind your way up through all sorts of neighborhoods on winding streets... More

Biesanz in the originator of much of the type of woodwork that you see in tourist shops and airport stores throughout Costa Rica and Central America. None compares to the quality of the Biesanz Woodworks. The shop is located near Belo Horizonte Escazu. It is a beautiful and interesting place to visit if you have some hours free. The showroom... Our family of 5 was looking for something 'different' to do while in San Jose so we headed to Biesanz on Christmas Eve. Minor was very friendly and patiently answered our questions about the woodworking process and the shop's history. Our kids (ages 9, 6 and 5 years) thoroughly enjoyed exploring the botanical garden. Sadly, we did not get to... More

Family and I stopped by to see Barry's work and were amazed by how beautiful the woodwork is! We were greeted by Minor who welcomed us in and showed us the details of everything made. He was so knowledgable and kind - we were treated like family! I purchased a gorgeous bowl which will be a unique one-of-a-kind souvenir from... More

one of the oldest landmarks of the area, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know Biesanz! They are amazing artists that produce truly unique woodworks. Just go, do it, you wont regret it unless you are used to walmart decor only.

The wood products you will find here are one of a kind. You can tour the grounds and see how long each piece takes to make from start to finish. Everything is done entirely by hand. It was so fun to see the products being made at various stages. If you are in the area, this is a must see!!

We visited Woodworks without an appointment and were immediately greeted by Minor who gave us a tour of the garden and the woodshop. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and explained how every piece is created. The tour is for free and there is no pressure to purchase anything afterwards although we were so fascinated, that we wanted to take... More
