Review of: Boat Rental
Dealing with these people left me $155 out of pocket for insurance I had to take out as part of a boat rental agreement. The rude owner (Michael) cancelled my booking after I called his base manager out for lying about a "new" law being "recently" passed, which wouldn't allow navigation as per our agreement - total BS as confirmed by local contacts. Due to Tres Ninas' lies and over eagerness for ME to cancel my booking it’s quite clear they found better paying customers on single day basis, as opposed to my 8-day rental at a lower daily price. Basically, they kept me booked until they got a better deal, tried to feed me a BS story about new laws and subsequently cancelled on me when I called them out on it. Of course, when I confronted them about reimbursing the $155, they stopped replying. There are plenty of decent, reliable boating services in Quepos and Jaco. Therefore, I strongly advise against dealing with Tres Ninas who operate out of Quepos and Los Suenos/Jaco.

Review of: Boat Rental
Juan was our guide. Two families. Snorkeling. Swimming. And we even "ran" with the dolphins. ALL of this couldn't have been done on a big party boat. Juan was great, flexible and he even gave us lunch! You won't regret it...just book!

Family of 4 including 2 kids booked a private tour for snorkeling and whale watching. The day was somewhat overcast, and the waters not completely smooth, but in general not bad. The boat was generally comfortable. We went out to our first spot and did some snorkeling, while the youngest did some fishing with the guide. Overall it was going pretty well, although we were pretty much on our own to get ourselves fitted up with snorkeling gear and off the boat, and had to ask where the best spot was to go. After that we were taken around to see some of the coastal area and search for another snorkeling location. We were on our third location since the waters were felt to be too choppy to safely snorkel, which was fair. However, by then 2 of us were feeling heavily sea sick, with the boat being driven somewhat fast and the waters not helping. At our third place we were happy to land and get off the boat for a bit. However, we had absolutely no help getting off, which was somewhat difficult when one is trying to get a life jacket and mask onto a sea sick 5 year old, not feeling well themselves, and the boat swaying to and fro. The guide seemed more interested in setting up fishing gear despite knowing that we weren’t doing particularly well; we weren’t actually there to fish (and since we were within the boundary of Manuel Antonio National Park fishing was illegal there anyway). After being in the water for a short time we abandoned the location as the water was too choppy. As we were going back to our original spot, he was driving so fast the boat was leaping in the air, to the extent that we had trouble keeping our seats – my 5 year old son actually fell off of the seat and hit his head. Thankfully after that he slowed down, to the point where our stomachs also settled somewhat, also showing us that this was possible! We abandoned the tour after that and went straight back to the marina. The highlight there was feeding the fish in the marina the wraps we were served for lunch. This was by far the worst tour of our 14 days in Costa Rica, and sadly at US 440 the most expensive.

Where to start! There were four of us for a 7am inshore sportfishing adventure (and we forget to get dramamine for our friend who gets sea sick. Captain Jose brought some for her last minute which enabled her to enjoy the trip. Within the first hour we caught a 50lb Mahi Mahi and saw a pod of Humpback whales. Jose and Sydney filleted the fish for us and bagged it up to take. We then went fishing for the elusive Rooster fish, and while we had some bites and had some on the line, they got away. All in all these guys were punctual, professional, thoughtful, and we will definitely take another tour with them when we come back to Costa!

A mixup with reservation but had great day on water. Captain tried several locations, several kinds of bait but fish weren’t biting. Found a large school of dolphins, feeding, birds and tuna. Saw a couple of sailfish, sea turtles and a school of mahi-mahi. Smooth clear water for trolling but only 1 bite - a Bull Mahi-mahi that jumped and spit out bait and hook before hookup. Captain and mate were awesome and worked really hard to get us on fish. The fish just didn’t cooperate so a day of fishing not a day of catching
