Monteverde Cloud Forest and Butterflies Garden Shore Excursion

The area is not only magnificent, but one of the most beautiful rainforests in the World, and seeing it from the point of the hanging bridge of view is the best way to see it. The project where we would take you has 6 hanging bridges in total, and from this point of view, you can see so much about the whole ecosystem! Whenever we get to see wildlife, monkeys or even, when lucky, the Resplendent Quetzal. This experience is something that keeps in our minds and hearts forever... since they are so close and so gorgeous!

As you come out of this enchanting forest, you will travel to a lower area in Monteverde to enjoy the fun, the learning and the discovery of butterflies from all over Costa Rica.

So, if you are into the biodiversity of Costa Rica, and want to learn in a hands-on experience, definitely this tour is for you! You will not only see butterflies, but you also get the chance to see them coming out of the cocoon and maybe even getting them out to their first flight.

This was an excellent tour from the port for $25.00 a person. It was 3 to 3.5 hours long. We had a driver and a tour guide and both spoke english. It was a good tour and we saw a wild three toes sloth climbing down from a tree as well as a large Aguana. We tasted fruits, cocao, and coconut milk. We got to see lots of the small city and the country side.

All in all, I am giving GIO Tours a really good review. There were some glitches in our tour, but in all honesty, it was not GIO's fault. Limon is a newer port for Carnival. With the expansion of the Panama Canal, larger ships are going through. We didn't dock at the slip they were expecting. That one would have been right next to the port building. However, we docked at the other one and it was an incredibly long walk. I had a group of 140 people going. Several had mobility problems. The port was SUPPOSED to have had a shuttle bus but they didn't. Also, GIO couldn't meet us at the pier like planned. I have to point the above out, but again, I truly do not feel it was the fault of GIO. In fact, the guides went out of their way on the way back to get us all dropped off inside the port. Took a little negotiating from what I hear, but they did it! Kudos to them. Now to the meat of this review. Our guide, Jesus, and our driver were fantastic! Full of interesting details. I wish I could recall the name of the driver as he made sure he pulled over whenever he saw something we should see. That man has eagle eyes - he spotted everything! Jesus loves his country and his job. That came across. What a very knowledgeable and interesting person he is. He made the trip one of the best I have taken. We went to Cahuita Park. Many of our people went on a walk into the jungle along a path. Those of us with mobility issues relaxed at a cafe on one of the most beautiful little beaches. Although it was a hot day, the breeze and shade were welcome. I'd book with them again! Next time I know about the issues with the port itself and plan.

My wife and I, and my 92 year old mother-in-law took the half day tour of Puerto Limon with Gio Tours and it was excellent. The 3 of us traveled in a shuttle bus through Puerto Limon and the surrounding countryside, all the while getting a wonderful description of the sights and history of the area from our incredible tour guide Allan. The highlight for us was a boat ride with a group of people down the Tortuega Canal, observing the rain forest. Our boat guide Adonis showed us howler monkeys, sloths, lizards, and beautiful birds oof all kinds. He even used our iPhone to get us a great picture of a sloth. Back on the tour, we stopped at a roadside facility that had wonderful fresh fruit and souvenirs. When my mother-in-law, who has mobility issues, accidentally got a cut on her shin stepping into the shuttle, Allan, his assistant Jose, and Javier our driver all immediately attended to her. They had a ful first aid kit that they used to clean and bandage her cut, so we were able to continue the tour with no issues. On the way back, we stopped at a banana plantation and learned all about how bananas are grown and shipped. I cannot emphasize how well Allan, Jose, and Javier treated us, especially helping my mother-in-law. This is a great tour to experience.

Our tour guide met us right outside the terminal building, got us to the nearby van, and got us on our way quickly. He spoke English well and was very accommodating to the various requests of the passengers. The tour was very interesting, and we returned to the terminal more than two hours before departure time.

Arrived to Limon by cruise ship. Instructions were not clear regarding where to meet the tour guide. 4 people no showed. Tour guide was frustrated and swore loudly in front of us. Very unprofessional. "Swim or sun at a local beach" for 90 minutes was a quick first stop at Playa Bonita beach. .Water was rough. Not sure why we'd stop there at the beginning. Basically, a stop to use the restrooms for a fee! The Tortuguero river tour was the best part. The boat operator was very skilled at sighting the wildlife. We were able to get close to a sloth and get some great photos. Other than that, the monkeys were hard to see. A few birds and a lizard or two. The tour also states you'll taste farm fresh tropical fruit. We received a bowl of pineapple, watermelon and honey dew melon. It was good but not anything you can't get at home. The tour description also says that you'll see a banana plantation. This involved parking outside the locked gate while the tour guide told us about the banana industry, showed us a banana root, explained how they grow, etc.. We couldn't go into the plantation because they are attempting to prevent the spread of a disease impacting the bananas. This is understandable but the tour description is misleading. Then a stop at a very crowded souvenir shop. More tropical fruit to sample was a tiny piece of papaya or pineapple. One person on our bus lost her cell phone and the tour guide did his best to help her. I need to give him credit for his kindness there.
