All in all, I am giving GIO Tours a really good review. There were some glitches in our tour, but in all honesty, it was not GIO's fault.
Limon is a newer port for Carnival. With the expansion of the Panama Canal, larger ships are going through. We didn't dock at the slip they were expecting. That one would have been right next to the port building. However, we docked at the other one and it was an incredibly long walk.
I had a group of 140 people going. Several had mobility problems. The port was SUPPOSED to have had a shuttle bus but they didn't. Also, GIO couldn't meet us at the pier like planned.
I have to point the above out, but again, I truly do not feel it was the fault of GIO. In fact, the guides went out of their way on the way back to get us all dropped off inside the port. Took a little negotiating from what I hear, but they did it! Kudos to them.
Now to the meat of this review. Our guide, Jesus, and our driver were fantastic! Full of interesting details. I wish I could recall the name of the driver as he made sure he pulled over whenever he saw something we should see. That man has eagle eyes - he spotted everything!
Jesus loves his country and his job. That came across. What a very knowledgeable and interesting person he is. He made the trip one of the best I have taken.
We went to Cahuita Park. Many of our people went on a walk into the jungle along a path. Those of us with mobility issues relaxed at a cafe on one of the most beautiful little beaches. Although it was a hot day, the breeze and shade were welcome.
I'd book with them again! Next time I know about the issues with the port itself and plan.

Our tour guide met us right outside the terminal building, got us to the nearby van, and got us on our way quickly. He spoke English well and was very accommodating to the various requests of the passengers. The tour was very interesting, and we returned to the terminal more than two hours before departure time.

Touring with Ron Lobo as our guide was a fun filled day. He was very knowledgeble and informative of all the sights we toured. His personality was the highlight of our tour, making it easy to keep interested in all he talked about. Everyone in the group was very happy with the tour and we all shared our approval of the tour guide. It made our trip to Costa Rico a memorable one! Thank you Ron!!!

Arrived on Princess Cruise with day trip to Monteverde booked. Upon arrival Gio states that tour is cancelled due to ‘high winds’. They offered and we took a Puntarenas and Croc river tour. Not bad, but fellow cruisers later told us they went to Monteverde with NO Problem this day. So somebody lied to us; will NOT use Shore Excursions or Gio again. Thankfully they are refunding the tour cost difference - only reason this is a 3 and not a 1. And nice guides.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. As we explained the day of the tour there were high winds that made the road to Monteverde dangerous. We do not risk the safety of our passengers as other companies may do. Our first priority is guaranteeing a safe tour and a safe comeback, if by any chance a tree would have fallen in the road on our way back we would not have been able to take you back to the ship on time, and even on the Hanging Bridges a branch could have fallen and caused an accident.
We are sorry that the weather was not the best and hope that if you come back some other time of the year you can join us on the Monteverde Tour.

We had an excellent tour with our guide Pablo and our van driver Leo. Both were very professional, knowledgeable and funny. They vigilantly looked for wildlife in the trees and water to share with us. We enjoyed our expererience seeing monkeys, birds, and crocodiles. Pablo did a great job of educating us about many aspects of his country and culture. This was a great introduction to Costa Rica for us.

We were on an excursion that also included a boat trip along wiith the canopy adventure. We had a great time and our tour guide - Jesus - was very knowledgeable and we appreciated all he did for us. Great tour and guide.

We booked what they call a fully private tour. We did the canal to see the wildlife. Our guide said we are waiting for the coach to come. Wondered why? Off piled 60 cruise ship passengers who we had to endure for the duration of this. Not pleasant or enjoyable. Left sour taste to the day. Contacted owner and asked for our deposit to be refunded. Still waiting.......be careful as trying to cut corners to provide good service. One has to ask to whether they are trying to monopolise rather than provide fully private tours.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write us a review, as we mentioned in our email the tour we offered had a private certified naturalistic bilingual tour guide, driver and a luxurious A/C van just for your party, the whole tour was private just for you and the only section that was shared with others was the boat tour, as the boats we have are big and didn't had any small boats available for the date, we couldn't set you on a single one. We appreciate your comment and will carefully indicate how the tour is settled on our forthcoming emails and if anyone has any special request we will explain or comply.
As we mentioned in our email the bank has already started the refund process and unfortunately, even though we had already called the bank several times to check on the status, there's nothing we can do on our end to make the process faster as it's bank-related now and we can only wait for the bank response.

I friend of mine set me up with Gio a couple of years ago and we were so happy with his service and friendly attitude. Gio speaks fluent English which is a great asset to me and my family. We have booked Gio's services 3 times and would never consider using any other service. Gio is a very good and trustworthy person. Stop looking for other services and book with Gio. You won't be disappointed and won't have any headaches from booking the wrong guy. Pura Vida~

Hubby and I had a wonderful time on this tour. Was met right on the pier--no hunting around for them. Comfortable air conditioned bus. We saw lots of crocodiles and birds on the river cruise part. Seen white faced monkeys. Had a nice lunch. Tour guide and driver were friendly and knowledgeable. All in all was an excellent tour.

We did an independent tour while stopping on a cruise in Puntarenas. Our tour guide was Chris. He was great and we couldn't recommend him more. Gio Tours did the entire tour for us even though there were only 4 who signed up. This made for a very personal touch. Chris was aiting for us on the pier at the appointed time (7:30 a.m.)
The transportation was a ride in a very comfortable and air conditioned van. We did the 12-line zipline in the Costa Rican forest canopy. This was fantastic! The guides there were super. Following this, we drove to a small boat cruise on the Tarcoles River where there were numerous opportunities to see hige crocodiles and exotic birds. Afterwards, we were treated by Gio Tours to a traditional Costa Rican lunch at a restaurant. Water was provided throughout the day. We drove back to the ship. Chris and the driver were very careful about getting us back in time and we got back to the pier at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Chris and his driver were very competent. Chris spoke English well, was knowledgable about the country and its resources, and extremely friendly. He went out of his way to make a stop to allow us to buy coffee since he knew we wanted to take some home. The owner of the tour company spoke to us by phone at the end of the tour to make sure were were happy with our outing. We feel like we got much more for our money than those who did a ship-sponsored tour at double the price for half the time.
Please consider Gio Tours (and Chris) for your time in Puntarenas.

I am looking on Trip Advisor at this tour. I am coming in on Princess on March 23. In one place on their website, it says "Free Cancellation up to 24 hours in advance." But in another place it says "Refunds will not be issued if tour/activity is missed due to late or non-arrival of cruise ship." These statements seem to conflict. Are you saying that if the ship cancels the port or is late due to some unforeseen circumstances, we cannot get our money back - even though it wouldn't be our fault?

We will provide a full refund if the cancelation is issued at least 24 hours in advance, however, if there is a last-minute cancelation and our representatives such as tour guides and drivers, are on the pier and the tour does not take place, we cannot provide a full refund. If a special situation takes place, we are more than willing to discuss it and consider a refund depending on the circumstance.

We will be arriving in Puerto Caldera in late March and have a day to spend ashore. I am partially handicapped and use a walker. I am not able to climb stairs or climb in and out of a boat unless I can roll directly on board. My wife and I are interested in a private tour using either an SUV or a boat where it would be easy to get in and out of without having to climb in. Please let us know what you might recommend and the cost. Thank you

We appreciate you are considering GioTours for your short visit here in Costa Rica, unfortunately, we do not have any vans with lift (only the 50+ passenger's large buses have them) and on all our tours we would need you to at least climb a couple of steps in and out of the van. We do offer options without a boat tour and designed for everybody if you were able to do so.

My cruise will be in Puntarenas on Monday, November 28. I am a handicapped school teacher who must use a mobility-scooter. I must take my scooter with me on the tour. I would prefer a bus with a "lift" for me and my scooter, but, I can also ride in a large car (my scooter can collapse smaller and will fit in a large trunk of a car). I am unable to use steps or stairs. I am looking for a tour for my husband and I. Does your company have a tour that we could go on? If not, do you know the name of a tour company (or even a private taxi with a lift) that we might use? Thank you.
