About Calypso Cruises
Calypso Tours is a tourism pioneer in Costa Rica. We created the now world famous "Tortuga Island Cruise" in 1975 and are CR's first independent tour operator. Throughout the 40 years that Calypso Cruises has been the number one tour in Costa Rica. Experience blue water, white sand, green mountains, superb cuisine and attentive personal service. Calypso's super catamaran, Manta Raya, will pass through more than seven islands in the Gulf of Nicoya. Her Port of Call is the beautiful, palm studded Tortuga Island where you can walk the impeccable white sand beach, swim in the turquoise waters and investigate the marine life, while the crew prepares a sumptuous feast (featured in Gourmet Magazine). Enjoy dining in the shade of white umbrellas with tables covered in white linen.

This was my second trip on this boat, the first being in 2018. I was so impressed with the trip in 2018 that I was adamant I would go with the same company again even though the hotels now seem to use Costa cat. I sent calypso a message via Facebook and was able to arrange the tour with ease, however, It seems Calypso went under just prior to the pandemic and it has now been bought out by Merida-Nos who are just getting it back on its feet. The first thing to note is the unbelievably good value at $70USD pp which is half the going rate & much less than I paid 4 years ago! It seems to attract more locals now, we were the only brits! They have dropped a few things off the itinerary including hot breakfast prior to departure as well as the banana boat & snorkelling but these can be arranged on the island for a small cost so it’s no real issue. The food & soft drinks were all included & were of a good standard. Alcoholic drinks are very reasonably priced, cheapest we’ve paid in the whole of CR. The boat is certainly one of the nicest with the two plunge pools, a hose on deck & lovely big nets to lounge on. However, the real selling point is the staff, many seem to be the same as before and they just can’t do enough to please you.

I booked a Tortuga cruise on their website on 3 January. I haven't got any information about the pickup point after that and I couldn't reach them neither by phone nor by e-mail. So I haven't done any tour despite that I had paid for it through the website. The company is not responding anywhere. I've tried phone, e-mail, website feedback form, Facebook page. It definitely looks like just a pure scam. Be aware.

I am very disappointed at how they managed my trip cancellation. I was informed via email a day after booking that my reservation was cancelled due to the climate (which is understandable). However, they stated I would get a refund for this cancellation and would have it within 24 hours. We are now going to 2 weeks and so far Expedia nor myself have been able to get in contact with someone via email or phone in regards to this matter. After speaking to Expedia they stated the refund was never initiated. I am very very disappointed and will not be booking anything with this tour ever again.

We went in February 2019 so I am a bit lax getting this review done:). This was a great day trip (a full day from early morning to late evening return home). The catamaran was comfortable and fun. It included pickup at the hotel, nice breakfast on shore before departing, great trip to Tortuga Island and lots of fresh fruit, water and snacks along the way offered (bring sunscreen and a hat for sure!). And, of course, there are lots of fun island drinks available (for an additional cost but not outrageously priced:). On the island they offer water sports included, banana boat, snorkelling and swimming or just sit in a lounge. They put up tenting and tables and served a fantastic lunch!! All the while travelling to and from the island they are pointing out the various sights, flora and fauna and a fun stop to meet up with a fisherman to pick up our FRESH fish for ceviche at lunch.

A great day trip, super relaxing. Day started early and we were picked up directly from our hotel. The boat was great we hung out in the netting most of the time, drinks were very reasonably priced and we even got to see some golf hind on the way out. The island was beautiful we opted to rent beach chairs once we were there. Lots of monkeys to see in the trees and the food and music was amazing. We went snorkeling and saw a few fish. Found that part to be a bit underwhelming however we had just come from the Galapagos where there is a lot more marine life.
