About Calypso Cruises
Calypso Tours is a tourism pioneer in Costa Rica. We created the now world famous "Tortuga Island Cruise" in 1975 and are CR's first independent tour operator. Throughout the 40 years that Calypso Cruises has been the number one tour in Costa Rica. Experience blue water, white sand, green mountains, superb cuisine and attentive personal service. Calypso's super catamaran, Manta Raya, will pass through more than seven islands in the Gulf of Nicoya. Her Port of Call is the beautiful, palm studded Tortuga Island where you can walk the impeccable white sand beach, swim in the turquoise waters and investigate the marine life, while the crew prepares a sumptuous feast (featured in Gourmet Magazine). Enjoy dining in the shade of white umbrellas with tables covered in white linen.

We went in February 2019 so I am a bit lax getting this review done:). This was a great day trip (a full day from early morning to late evening return home). The catamaran was comfortable and fun. It included pickup at the hotel, nice breakfast on shore before departing, great trip to Tortuga Island and lots of fresh fruit, water and snacks along the way offered (bring sunscreen and a hat for sure!). And, of course, there are lots of fun island drinks available (for an additional cost but not outrageously priced:). On the island they offer water sports included, banana boat, snorkelling and swimming or just sit in a lounge. They put up tenting and tables and served a fantastic lunch!! All the while travelling to and from the island they are pointing out the various sights, flora and fauna and a fun stop to meet up with a fisherman to pick up our FRESH fish for ceviche at lunch.

A great day trip, super relaxing. Day started early and we were picked up directly from our hotel. The boat was great we hung out in the netting most of the time, drinks were very reasonably priced and we even got to see some golf hind on the way out. The island was beautiful we opted to rent beach chairs once we were there. Lots of monkeys to see in the trees and the food and music was amazing. We went snorkeling and saw a few fish. Found that part to be a bit underwhelming however we had just come from the Galapagos where there is a lot more marine life.

My husband proposed to me on the island 7 years ago and we decided to return for our 7 year engagement anniversary ♡ It was just as wonderful as we had remembered. The staff deliver 5-star Pura Vida service, truly, even they were a highlight! And then there's the boat ride (you get to watch the sunset on the ride back), the snorkeling, the banana boat and the delicious food (I'm vegan and gluten free and they served me beautiful plates of veggies and rice). Tips: Remember to bring sunscreen and a beach towel (and tip the staff, as they will likely very much deserve it). Thank you Calypso Cruises, we look forward to sharing more anniversaries with you in the future! Wonderful, as always.

We are 'snow birds' in CR and have occasional visitors. The tour to Tortuga Island with Calypso Cruises is the first thing we mention when they ask us what there is to see and do. When travel time is limited, you want to make sure it is well spent! The ride is fun, the food is good, the service is awesome, and the beach is pristine, white sand in a semi-private area. Even when there are other tour groups it hasn't been too crowded or loud. We will be taking one more trip with friends before we return to the States, and we are looking forward to it!
