Unique and Beautiful HG and PG launch
This is a unique location for hang gliding and paragliding where you can launch from the backyard of a fellow paragliding pilot and soar over the ocean for hours using ridge lift. The views are gorgeous and there is a huge landing zone on the beach below. Highly recommend for adventurous travelers who want to do tandem flights or for visiting pilots.

    Stunning location, awesome experience
I went there today just looking for a place to have lunch, turned out to be more than that, getting to Nemaclys was easy even though the road from the highway to the top of the mountain is not in perfect condition (any sedan can get there easly though), it really surprised me the scenic beauty, the great food and in particular the attention of the staff. After having lunch and "manning up" I went for main attraction the paragliding. The pilot was pretty good in making me feel comfortable with the idea of flying and after a short explanation and instruction we were taking off, I have to say it was amazing. I would recommend this place to people going just for a great place to have lunch (again stunning view of the cost) as well to the emotion seeking people.

It was bad to say the least.
On Facebook it says there is a 500 cólones fee and once we got there a VERY VERY rude lady came walking towards us, asking us to stop the car.
It was our first visit there, and assumed the place was public as gates were open.
She briefly explained the cost of 1000 cólones with the worst attitude, she basically kicked us out before we even got the time to understand what was going on.
No drinks allowed here, she shouted while no one had drinks of any kind, nor did we intend to walk in to a restaurant with our one refreshments...
She took our money and walked away, as I said “I don’t like her one bit”... little did I know that she had heard me and came marching back up to the car , returned the cash and kicked us out ...
I mean say what? First you over charge me, than you act like you are doing me a favor , then you kick me out?
If she is an employee, she needs to be fired and if she is the owner, she needs to find a different line of work, tourism and costumer service isn’t her thing.

Bad experience!

What? You really want to charge an entrance fee for a restaurant? At least offer to return the fee if you order food! But too late the 10 of us went to a better place! A message to the boss that hung up on us... You are your own problem!

If you like to paraglide and like good food, this is a fine place to hang out. We first visited Nemaclys in 2005 and have been there several times since over the years during our Costa Rica trips. The owners, Jean-Claude and his wife are excellent hosts. The view of the bay and the launch provide great entertainment for pilots and non-pilots. The restaurant area is covered, but still outside, so it is very pleasant and not too hot.

Not many places can you leave you family to relax, have a drink, snack, or just chill, while you (as a pilot) go fly for a couple of hours. There are tadem flights available for non-pilots too. After top landing (or bottom, its not far to get back up), sit down for Ceviche and Arroz con Pollo that still makes my mouth water when I look at the holiday pictures.

The menu prices have definitely gone up since 2005. Nemaclys is normally open weekends and holidays.

Our last visit was in August 2013, just realized I forgot to give them a review.

We got back from our Costa Rica vacation a week ago, and and I already want to go back and get some more time in the air at Nemaclys. Great experience!

I have visited Nemaclys every year for the past 13-14 years, whenever I get to Costa Rica. There is a very nice restaurant and bar with views of the Bay of the Nicoya and a chance to take a tandem paragliding flight as well. The tandem pilots are some of the most experienced paragliding pilots in the world, not an exaggeration! Because they have consistant conditions for much of the year they fly more days than any other paragliding site. It's a beautiful flight and very reasonable by US or European standards.
The food at the restaurant is outstanding, especially the ceviche, made from a secret recipe by the co-owner.

Paragliding with Nemaclys was one of the best experiences my wife and I had in Costa Rica. As other reviews have mentioned getting there can be tough, but it's definitely worth it! If you want to avoid the entrance fee (500 colones per person) go on a weekday, but the fee is a small price to pay for such a great adventure. Jean Claude and his fellow pilots are friendly and always make you feel safe.

Just got back from Costa Rica and paragliding here was one of the best experiences we had. I was a bit afraid at first but the staff was very friendly and made me feel at ease. The view was beautiful and it was so much fun! I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique and exciting experience on their trip.

Such a fun adventure! Jean-Claude is a great guide, especially from a bird's eye view! The only problem is getting there so here's what I learned:
Taking the Puntarenas-Quepos bus, get off where the highway is right by the coast. You can tell the driver that you're going to Mar y Azul restaurante. If you pass the side of the road that is covered with Costa Rica banderas (flags) you've gone too far. Once you get to the restaurant call a taxi to take you there.
Quepos-Puntarenas: similar, get ready to get off when you see the banderas.
The acrobatic is a must if you like adrenaline. Great spirals that'll put a smile on your face! It's definitely not for people who are afraid of hieghts, instead, do the standard 10-20 min trip. It's very relaxing and a beautiful view.

My daughter wanted to try paragliding and selected this place. It was an hour ride from San Jose, but the turn off is easy to miss. As soon as you hit the ocean drive around 10km and just before a hill ,start looking for a small, nondescript sign at the right of the road where a dirt road branches off. After an interesting road you will arrive at the restaurant and you will be rewarded with a great sight. The paragliding operation is part of the restaurant and the people involved gave the impression that the where very experienced and knew what they were doing. My daughter had a great time using the tandem option and the food of the restaurant is not too bad either. Outside of the weekend give them a call ahead as one of the gates might be closed.
