My brothers and I were treated like family from the start. We were introduced to the whole family by our host, Anita, who also allowed us to eat our lunch at their home dining table. We were educated on the many types of fruit and vegetable plants on the property along with the history behind them. We also partook in the artisanal chocolate-making process which was a unique experience! We bought 100% pure chocolate at the end for a very reasonable price. We plan to make custom chocolates with it!

If you are coming down to the Osa peninsula you must take the time to visit this amazing small family chocolate farm. For a very reasonable amount of money you get to spend several hours seeing, tasting, smelling, and experiencing the various stages of growing and processing chocolate. Being farmers ourselves, it warmed our soul to meet this wonderful family that is very passionate about their business. Be sure to leave a big tip as you know your money is going directly to farmers in need of your support.

We made the chocolate tour today and it was fantastic! German‘s daughter is very nice and knows a lot about all the plants and flowers that grow in the garden (they are incredible! medical plants, all kinds of fruits, spices, it‘s endless, and of course the cacao!, and big trees). we made chocolate by ourselves with every step from picking the fruit until the chocolate piece. The whole family was around, everyone helped with one small step, and the atmoshphere was very warm and familar. Highly recommend!

What a great place to visit and as others have said, it is like visiting a family. It was great seeing the variety of plants & learning about how the indigenous people used them. The cost of the tour was $40 per person & well worth it. We loved the samples of fruits & chocolates & we left with cacao seeds, bamboo straws & fans. We were not able to drive that day due to vehicle restrictions so we took a taxi which cost $40 round trip for 4 of us.

This was an incredible tour. We walked the property and tasted herbs and learned about the medicinal plants. We have really come to appreciate the process from Cocoa seed to chocolate - it is amazing. The lunch was spectacular at the end of the tour and we did buy chocolate to take home. Our 12 year old really enjoyed it too. Their approach to the land and the environment is inspiring. Be aware that it is cash only so be prepared. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting this area. We can't wait to go back!

We had an absolutely wonderful guided tour though the organic chocolate farm of Rancho Raices de Osa. Glenda was a very knowledgeable, kind and humerous guide. We learned a lot about many plants that grew on the farm. We then had lots of fun preparing our own chocolate and receiving a wonderful chocolate facial mask. Glenda's family were all very kind. We can highly recommend this tour for all chocolate lovers (and who isn't?) ❤

10/10 would recommend! We had such an amazing time visiting and taking the tour. Our guide named Glenda was extremely kind, knowledgeable and fun. She showed us lots of different plants & explained how they are used in Costa Rica. We got to hold baby chicks and we enjoyed taking part in the chocolate making. It’s clear this is a family business and it’s so wonderful to see how they all support each other. I also forgot my jacket and was thankful to hear they had kept it and I went to pick it up. Overall, it was an awesome experience and we all had a fantastic time!

My family and I went to this tour and it was amazing. I had very low expectations but my wife wanted to go so we did it. $40 seemed too pricey but it wasn't! They were really interactive with the kids, we did everything from holding baby geese and using plants to do war paint on our faces to seeing the chocolate grow and participating in the manufacturing. Hector, the owner even threw some hooks out with bananas on them to fish, and they gobbled them up! The kids all had a chance to reel in some fish. To end we made chocolate, ate chocolate, and even did chocolate masks. It was a must do and we'd do it all again. Side note: we tried to call to make a reservation but no one answered so we just stopped in, I think they do it in the morning and around 2 PM. It's just a big family owned ranch so not very sophisticated, if they don't answer don't worry.

My husband and I visited Rancho Raices in May 2021, while we were discovering the Osa Peninsula. We were given a very interesting tour, which included the preparation (and tasting) of chocolate from the cocoa beans, information about herbs and natural remedies from local plants, and a fun climb to platform in a very tall tree. We also saw capuchin monkeys, and tasted coconut and pineapple picked right in front of us. A wonderful visit!

We visited Rancho Raices on the recommendation of a local shopkeeper and were not disappointed. This family-run cacao farm is a true treasure. It features a wide variety of plant life, and the tour of the property provided us with tons of information on the various uses of these plants. You are also allowed to sample the cacao at each stage of the process - absolutely delicious! Near the end of your tour, you are treated to a fondue party. We were fortunate to have some monkey guests in attendance. We learned from the family how to make chocolate by hand, which was truly fascinating. We also gave each other chocolate facemasks. This place is a chocolate lover's dream. It's also wonderful to see the joy of the process passed down from one generation to another.
