Incredible natural resource of beauty & wildlife
Apr 2021
We decided to spend a few nights staying in Puerto Jimenez so we’d have close proximity to ocean activities. Golfo Dulce is beautiful - beaches, mangroves, dolphins, birds, and the rivers in the area are great for wildlife viewing. We did 2 river trips with Surcos Tours and loved the private boats with such personal attention. We learned a lot about this precious ecosystem and we are grateful for all the conservation efforts!

Perfect family vacation
Mar 2020
We are a family of 5 from Montreal, children’s age: 13, 8 and 4. We just had the most amazing time at Golfo Dulce Retreat and we recommend it with all our heart. It’s the perfect family vacation. Luxury cabins in the middle of the jungle, a two-minute walk from a spectacular private beach. In the same day, we were woken up by monkeys, and in the afternoon, dolphins swam around us while longboard paddling. You will stay entertained all day, one day you will be kayaking in the mangroves and the other day you are snorkeling with amazing corals and fishes! This is a perfect place for kids and adults for relaxation and adventure.
Our kids left completely amazed and … in love with the owners Chantelle and Simon as well as Katie, a biologist from Cambridge University, who taught our kids so many things about different species in the jungle. Let’s not forget about the food. We still can’t grasp how is it possible to feel like we’re eating in Italy, but in the middle of the jungle in Costa Rica!
We often say that we will return for sure to a place we loved so much, but at the end, we never do. I hope this time we will.

Great place to relax
Feb 2020
If you want sandy beaches that are a young child's delight this may not be your first choice but for slightly older children and adults wishing to escape the city then this is a great chill out spot. Wonderful areas of vegetation accommodate diverse birds and animals, butterflies are exquisite and the fun and sense of adventure are terrific. There is good surfing, whale watching in season and I hear the dolphins are amazing.

While traveling with a Road Scholar group, we visited and explored the mainland and shore. A number of beautiful plants and a number of birds.

The Golfo Dulce is one of our favorite places on earth!
Aug 2019 • Couples
We have visited Puerto Jimenez and the Golfo Dulce 3 times. It is just great for calm and comfortable swimming/chilling. Largely surrounded by rain forest. My very favorite place to go whale watching in August! Mothers and calves are there along with breaching males. Sea turtles, several species of dolphin... and last time we say a very gregarious pod of False Orcas! Amazing! When not chilling in the water on a comfortable beach, I’d recommend Changing Tides whale and dolphin watching. They can fetch you from Golfito or Puerto Jimenez!

Picturesque Place to Enjoy
Jul 2019 • Friends
The beach is rather hidden down a long narrow dirt road, but it was beautiful. Tropical trees and driftwood add to the peacefulness. Mountains visible across the water.

Scenic Spot
Feb 2019 • Couples
My wife and I enjoyed kayaking a bit on the Golfo Dulce as well as just enjoying the scenery from our hotel terrace. The expanse of water, the mountains in the distance, the mangroves, and the possibility of finding gentler, more protected areas are all nice features, as are the attractive beaches were saw in the area of Matapalo.

Vast Highly Diverse Ecosystem
Feb 2019 • Friends
On this excursion, our guide mainly had us tour around the many Mangroves hoping to view many of the diverse species in this type of ecosystem. Unfortunately, on this day the wildlife didn't get our memo that we coming so they were shy and stayed away. Nevertheless, paddling among the mangroves was highly enjoyable. We were able to learn how important the Mangroves are to the ecosystem as a whole. It was fun and easy paddle.
